Hello Allen! So .. I have 2 Atlas MP15's and both ran poorly on my track. Track was clean but I don't have powered frogs. Most frequently they would stall out momentarily over the switches. I ended up adding ESU Power Pack Mini's to both of them. They run much better now! No more stalling over the switches! These are the only locomotives I own that I had to add the keep alive to. The Power Pack Mini fits perfectly in the cab between the figures in there. Can't even see it. Additionally, I added a Decoder Boddy, replaced the speaker and changed all the yellow LED's to some nice warm whites. It was time consuming but worth it in my opinion. Night and day difference! Thank you for the video! Loved watching the day in the life of a tank car!
Thank you for the tips! I just need to take the time to add a couple more feeders on two or three turnouts on the layout that cause "pauses" on my short wheelbase locos and I'll be all set. I forget about them until I run these op sessions when I "rediscover them". I really need to add some marker flags or something to those pesky turnouts. As for loco modifications, that's something that I am loathe to do, simply because my hands like to break delicate things. Maybe if I could watch someone mess around with theirs, I would gather the courage to try it. Otherwise, I would have no problem shipping mine off to have someone better suited do work like that.
@@KandWRailroader Well, I'm working on an Atlas GP38-2 right now.. I'm not even taking the chance that it will run smooth over my switches so I'm being proactive by adding the keep alive now. I'll see if I can take some pictures for you. I generally haven't done work for others BUT I do a lot of DCC installs, Speaker & LED upgrades as well as weathering on my own stuff.
@@RichardOpaluch-pj3rv Adding keep-alive makes perfect sense. I am definitely interested in LED upgrades as would love to add some working beacon lights to several of my units that have the light, it just doesn't work (or at least I haven't figured out the right command to make it work). I'm also interested in sound upgrades, though I can't remember the brand off-hand. I would be interested to see your upgrade process.
@@KandWRailroader I'm sure there are several different speaker options but I'm partial to Scale Sound Systems speakers. They seem to have a deeper tone in general with better sound quality. Highly recommend them. What decoders are you using in the locomotives with non-operational beacons? I'm only familiar with ESU V5. I'm also working on adding remote control antennas with alternating flashing beacons on an NS High Hood SD40-2. Projects ..
@@RichardOpaluch-pj3rv I just received a Scale Trains SP SD38-2 with a beacon that has ESU v5, so it could be quite possible that I just haven't figured out the right CV. I also have a couple of older D&RGW Athearn SD40-T2's with Soundtraxx Tsunami v2 that don't work either. It could entirely be my fault because beyond re-programming each loco to its cab number, I rarely do much else. I just want to get them running so I can turn my attention back to layout construction. If I can't make the extra lights work with function 5 or 6 like most, then I give up for the time being until I feel like spending the time to figure it out.
Good to see those trains running! Layout is looking good - I’ve been away from RUclips (and my own layout) for most of the summer. Now trying to catch up with progress on what other people have done. Keep up the great work!
Thank you! I'm afraid though that I've reached the limit of my videography skills while also trying to run the trains. To improve any more, I really need an assistant to operate trains while I shoot video. I'd really like to get more scale eye-level shots and more tracking shots. Guess I better start recruiting operators!
Gotta love a day in the life of a tank car. That white tank at the end is really cool, a lot of graphics and tech boards. Nice ops session.
Thank you kind sir!
Hi K & W Railroader & it's is Randy and i like yours video is Cool & Thanks K & W Railroader & Friends Randy
Thanks Randy!
Great to see some trains moving. Something I really need to do. It's easy to forget that's what I want to do when so engrossed in scenery 👍
