@@johnnyparsnips7641 You have it wrong. It's the person who uses the money, and at the core is their intentions which are evil. Not money. There are a lot of rich people who are kind and generous and donates to a lot of charities, take mr beast for an example. And there are some evil rich people too, money isn't evil - it's the user
This homeless man lived better then most people who work 40+ hours a week and he squandered it because of an ego he shouldn't even have. How do you literally go from rags to riches basically overnight and you ruin the life of the one person who had your back?
@@Bountyhunter00 yep!! entitlement, foolishness, overindulgence, narcissistic personality traits and self righteousness are just some of the things that caused and perpetuated his homelessness…. unfortunately throwing money at these traits didn’t make them go away it just fueled them into a bigger monster.
Exactly. Quite sad but you can't cure lazy and irresponsible with money. A real man has to work hard for everything he owns in life and take care of his loved ones.
Granny always told me "Taysha, you are a GIVER and GIVERS have to set limits because TAKERS never do". It's so hard because the joy I get out of giving and being of service to others goes so much further than anything else I've experienced in life. Limits. Definitely need to set limits, as we can see here with poor Rahat. Another thing Granny used to say (which I believe is in the Bible?) "The WICKED will NEVER prosper from ill-gotten gain". I've seen the truth of that statement play out so many times.
yeah people who are bad with money do not magically get better with money when it is handed to them.... not really their fault either, just a lesson they may never learn.
THIS, you have to establish limits on how much you Give, a Taker that is ok Taking is exhibiting low value behavior and shouldnt be entitled to what he/she is given
Not hard to imagine. No one owes you loyalty, honesty etc (I learned first hand) But it sucks when you don’t realize that and help someone expecting for them to never bite the hand that fed them 😕

He gave him enough to clean up his act and get all his legal documents and overall dress nicely for interviews to get him back on his feet. There’s not much on an excuse to keep doing this and trashing his reputation.
The thing is, Rahat gave him too much. He started with a house. This is crazy. Should have started with a small apartment. Should have the homeless choose the furniture. Help to carry the furniture into the small apartment. Like all normal people start their life when they start a job. Then the homeless could have worked his way up being supported by the money. Little by little he could have grown into a person that is able to run a house and a job. Rahat wasted the fundraiser on just one guy who was not ready for this amount of money. Should have founded a common house for a group of homeless guys. Maybe one or two of the group would have made it to a job.
@@doroparker1702 2 or more homeless guys? They would have murdered Rahat. These people are homeless for a reason. They have problems. There might be like 1% homeless people who deserve to be helped.
@shifstar he could have gotten the help, and there was no need to be rude, he literally trashed the money on limousine rides, MULTIPLE TIMES, he could have gotten help, I get getting it and feeling like you don’t need to do anything for a while. But once you start running low he should’ve figured it out. He didn’t have to ruin this man’s career and cause him to nearly off himself. And he had more than one day, he had nearly a year. 10 months of rent was payed if I remember correctly. I didn’t expect a switch to flip.
@@sohailape that’s disgusting. Homeless people aren’t inherently bad!! Eric had no life skills, he doesn’t know how to manage finances, run a home, hold down a job etc. He was given no professional help? what did you expect
This is what makes people question helping people. I used to work retail and I had a couple come to the door an hour before open. I decided to help them out and let them in early so they wouldn't have to wait. I didn't have what they wanted in stock and they started cussing me out and threatening me. Just made me not want to help out anymore.
I learned a LONG time ago that "helping" homeless people is a huge mistake.. and.. I've been homeless.. more than once.. but.. there are tons of homeless that just live on people's generosity never wanting to ever help themselves..
Depends, if you are helping short term homeless people ashamed of begging it´s a good thing to do, but for long term homeless with beggar habits established and no shame, they´ll have to undergo rehab before getting any money to turn their lives around or they wont.
That's the point of this case though. I'm sure Eric had the same feeling when he received that support. But because he was given the huge amount money without having to work for it, he felt it would be an ongoing thing and deemed the low paying job worthless compared to the amount he's getting through donations. He abused it and started to want more money to feed his addiction, and when he wasn't getting more he turned to bite the hand that fed him.
Most impoverished people are never able to learn how to use their resources effectively & responsibly, because those resources don't exist as they're growing up.
@@dagmarland I grew up VERY poor. I'm talking almost 100% of my clothes were from flea markets till I was about 18. We could only afford a certain amount of food every day, so I had a BMI of 17.3. I have been late on rent many times, even went $2500 into debt with a friend at one point, but I promised to pay him back, and I did. Today I own a house and use most of my savings to renovate it. I would say I'm better than the average person at budgeting. If people put in an effort, they can learn how to spend their money.
@@thatsawesome2060 yeah but the checks it's so hard to copy and only expert of check criminals (forgot what's its called in English) can copy it, so it's solid prove already
This was horrible. This is the exact reason people second guess helping someone because u don't really know what's what. I feel truly sorry for this man he was so kind and generous to Eric and it blew up in his face. For someone to be that kind to help u in a bad situation is a miracle and Eric didn't appreciate it he just wanted to waste that money. If someone did this for me and my family I guantee u we would have appreciated and been truly grateful. I hope Rahat is doing well. I feel so sorry for him. Eric is a loser and needs to be in jail.
And the funny thing is they fail to realize that it is those with kindness who are the ones that are actually thriving enough to be in a position to help them. You would think they would see this as a good example to follow as they turn their life around. but some people are just not worth helping.
One time I was with a lady from Church, just going shopping and stuff when I saw a homeless man and I wanted to give him a pound that I had but she told me "Don't he'll just buy drugs" I still feel horrible.
People outside of the low income community, should not directly "help" people withen in low income community. Simply put, Rahat had not come up in the environment and did not have the necessary skills to detect Eric's deceptions. Anybody from the community could've immediately told that Eric was not a genuine person from the start. Game recognize game, and Rahat was a mark, an easy one. Hope Rahat can recover from this life lesson.
Exactly. I think people mistake this lesson as "never help anybody." Incorrect. Just make sure not to avoid red flags when helping somebody. Look for people who are already trying to help themselves. Give people opportunities rather than direct resources or money.
Thats exactly how i feel which is why i can't feel bad for dude. These people act like they can change the world by just being nice. This a cold world fr and you gotta learn how to navigate in these communities if you really wanna help. Not only that but if you gonna moving scary like this you aint got no business over there to begin with
That homeless man is why so many people are hesitant to help out the homeless. He basically ruined it for those who would actually do the right thing if given an opportunity like that. That was every homeless person's dream come true and that punk shat on the 1 person that wanted to do a great thing. This story makes me both angry at Eric and the yt'er that tried to ruined Rahat and sad for Rahat bc all he had were good intentions.
We have a homeless man in our neighborhood who shows up to get cash within 5 minutes of our coming home. Our neighbor got him a job. He never showed up.

My teacher helped some homeless people by I think having a list of jobs that they could do and homeless shelters they can go too One person when getting that list, was continuing to still ask for money from people for more than few weeks Another family left that street where they were asking for money within a week
@Luna Pines no what I was saying was DONT give money, only give food or offer a job if you can. If they say no to food, but insist on taking money, then there's a problem
Very true. It is a good start but support is needed so that they don't throw it all away again. With that support though, the failure rate can be extremely low - around 5% in some population studies.
That's why im not sure about welfares for homeless people. Homelessness should be miserable that people doesnt want to be homeless like this guy. You may call me heartless. But these kinds of stories says everything about helping other people.
Eric is a REAL homeless person who was REALLY stolen from. Misusing charitable funds is a crime. The only reason Rahat is getting away with it is because no one has respect for the homeless.
@@pino4348 no, but think of how angry he was. I’m sure he was furious and just wanted to have fun. You don’t know the full situation and it’s not like Eric contributed his side, so don’t judge.
“People love to say, “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” What they don’t say is, “And it would be nice if you gave him a fishing rod.” That’s the part of the analogy that’s missing.”
This is why the average citizen has no business simply “helping” the homeless to this degree. A lot of us oversimplify the problem of homelessness and think “oh if only I could give them a house, car, and job- their life would be perfect.” Not taking into account the added complexities of a life spent on the street such as substance abuse issues. He had great intentions but none of the expertise to back such expectations. He was out of his depth and really should have outsourced this to those who had more experience. It’s unfortunate that it was such an extreme way to learn a lesson.
Exactly, very well said! As a former homeless person, I had many issues beyond not having a home. I had to deal with my substance abuse and trauma and mental health before I was able to actually hold a job, go to college, etc. Now, I will have my Master's in Psychology in June and currently have my CADC, an AA in Sociology, and an AA in Human Services. While having someone help me like Rahat helped Eric MAY have fixed things for me for awhile, I inevitably would have ran through the money because of my addiction and ended up on the streets again. Without the skills to stay sober and keep the house and job, just being given a house or job means very little beyond a temporary fix
Yes. 100% agree. His first step should have been to make sure he was physically and mentally healthy to be able to handle a new life and responsibilities. I also think none of this should have been posted online
I agree totally, where I live we have a very high homeless population, almost 30% of our population is homeless, and from what I have seen and experienced a lot of them suffer from substance abuse and mental illness, both. And until they can get help in that regard giving them a house and money won’t change their behaviors that got them in their position in the first place. There are definitely people out there that life just gave them the wrong cards, they probably have the best chance of turning things around vs dealing with addiction or mental illness.
Yup exactly. It’s generally best to just show compassion and if you want to get them something, help them find shelter, substance abuse help, or buy them some necessities like food or clothing. Buying them something that requires responsibility like a home, or giving them a large sum of money is doomed to fail.
Eric is evil and disgusting doing this to a kind person helping him. I hope Eric gets exactly what he truly deserves. Eric just showed what he really is.

It isn't he is ungrateful. He is a prisoner to his addictions. From personal experience with my own family member struggling with addictions, what Rahat explained is what I went and am still going through with a family member. Rahat should have used that money, to help pay for Rehab/Therapy, then the remainder to be used after he got out. But he didn't know. Most homelessness is due to addiction, or they eventually turned to substance abuse, once in that realm, it takes professionals to help them, not someone with $40k giving them a house to help them turn their life around. Yup he clearly suffered from substance abuse and likely some sort of mental disorder. Both common afflictions among the homeless exacerbated by the lack of healthcare.
This story hits too close to home. Me and my family are suffering from something very similar to it. This world got no place for people with good heart. People just take advantage of your kindness.
Poor man, he doesn't deserve this. You can see Rahat's eyes are distant, somewhere else. It's like he was basically forced to spill everything that happened. This is why you shouldn't judge others before hearing their story.
Your heart is in the right place, but when people have demons they have to help themselves, before anything else. You are a genuine person and I'm sorry you were treated this way 💞
Rented, furnished, got him a job, and wrote him checks we know at least amounted to $25,000 dollars + whatever he was constantly giving him at every request he made. All of it squandered, and then he goes back to try and extort more out of Rahat... disrespectful is the talking about him behind his back. All of this together? I would call it evil. Just a completely black soul to take all of that for granted... and then turn on the person who gave it to you.
More than that even, there was thousands spent outside of that. Yet the dude that was getting a motel room rented for a couple weeks immediately let the dude know out of appreciation. Shame Andrew wasn't in Erics shoes it could've been a beautiful story.
Rahat you did a very good deed to try to change this man's life and give him purpose. You gave him ALL the tools he needed, shelter, clothing, food, job, however because the man did not try to help himself by staying away from old friends and alcohol of course this could NEVER work. The main thing is that you tried and hopefully you will be able to regain your life back. 🙂

That's it. I've been around the recovery community for a long time and I've seen it countless times. You can set someone up with the world but if the person isn't putting in self-work, it's dust in the wind. The intentions were good, but this is pretty typical.
@@nonreturn7386 I wonder why this wasn't checked into beforehand? Eric needed to be in recovery and getting help with his issues FIRST. I understand it was a lottery.
