We just saw MAD GOD with Phil in attendence this last weekend . What an achievement!! Phil was very kind and generous and chatted with a bunch of us after the screening.
Yasss, God. Mad God. Oh, my God. I knew nothing of Phil's personal project. Will spread the word high and low, contribute what I can, just to make sure this happens. It's like a dream to have such a master of the art make pure art with it. Praise be.
I find it interesting the Phil has this default slightly annoyed/deadpan look about him. Not his fault and definitely not how he feels (he wouldn't have had all these interviews if he was genuinely annoyed at the interviews). Great video, especially seeing Phil alone in his studio doing what he loves doing. 😁
The 1/6th scale seamless latex bodies with steel armatures that Phil is using are made by Phicen. There are male and female versions. They also come in different body types. They are compatible with most 1/6th scale clothing and accessories. Though keep in mind if you buy the body builder male body you need to buy clothing that will fit because it is bigger than most normal 1/6th scale figures.
Did someone lock the doors after the ESB wrap party at ILM??? If so I think Phil may have still be working. Norm clearly just stumbled on this bearded Ben Gunn type character who's been locked in a warehouse for 38 years.
I was in a store about a block from ILM and noticed Dennis Muren looking at 35mm items that later turned out to be for the mine car chase in Temple of Doom. One could hardly go anywhere in Marin without running in to Lucas and these other guys.
I hadn't heard about MadGod, and thrilled to get more info... A $600 buy-in for both chess pieces, plus other loot. Not a bad deal, if you have the money.
I believe they remove the clay half and spray a release on the latex half to prevent the second half of the mold fusing to the first when it's being poured
oh no it's a joke on his profession Title in the credits as Dinosaur Supervisor. obviously it meant he supervised the special effects for the creatures but people like to read it as he was supervising the actual exctict animals in the movie and (jokingly) put blame on him for the entire plot XD
Phil seemed to be.. annoyed/bothered? I dunno.. But if you like him, check out the story he tells about doing LSD while working on Star Wars. No wonder those movies were so good ;)
I always love seeing behind the scenes of stuff like stop motion, it's so cool and it would be amazing if films used it more than they do cgi, cgi's so bland compared to it, no magic.
Sean's shirts are sometimes the best part of the videos. Big Trouble in Little China Shirt. Kind of sad it wasn't a tank top. ha ha. Phil Tippett would be the best Boss. No B.S. I admire that.
Would be great to have a set of replicas of the screen used holochess pieces! Possibly pipecleaner bodies just for fan posing - static painted resin statues would still sell either way. I assume the digital files from Frank's build still exist so a 3D print could serve as an accurate master for each!
Back here 4 yrs later- Mad God is the worst f**kin movie I’ve ever seen. It’s my Favorite. I’m enamored with it.. I Have to Watch It Again, and probably several more times.
john bryant Well Adam owns it or at least is a main part of it at this point. I dont think Adam and Jamie wanted to keep working together after the end of Myth busters
Phil seems a little pissed that he's been scratch building all of his gear as a loved art form for 40+ years, and now someone is mass producing it all to the point that he has relented and begun to use them himself!
Ryan Roberts, you do know its a reward for a project he is working on, im pretty sure if he wanted he could just not have done it as a reward, also he commented saying he wasn't pissed
I thought on the contrary, he seemed excited. Any excuse not to use a wire armature for some quickly made throwaway model when you can't justify spending a few days machining one is a good excuse, because it will just increase the quality of animation. But then, i don't have much of a facial expression most of the time either.
Why does he need people donating on a Kickstarter Account, for his own personal fun ( 'Mad God' film), when by looking up his net worth, it shows it at approximately 5 million dollars ?
How on earth could you possibly make that determination from an interview about a 40-year-old project that didn't make much of an impression on him? It's possible to be reserved or not particularly peppy in front of a camera without being a complete misanthrope.
He seems the same way in other videos, I don't think it's anything personal, Norm does his best. I'm sure he's not that fussed, but I appreciate him giving some insight.
The Hing - Believe it or not, some people don't grin stupidly all the time just for the benefit of others. Respecting him as an artist is great and all, but how about respecting him as a person and not expecting that he change his demeanor to be more pleasing to you?
Phil Tippet is very Rude, it's like all these nerds spend too much time indoors making tiny models, they have lost touch with people. Always very grumpy, almost never smiles and very unwelcoming!
--- not annoyed at all --- just how i communicate. or norm must've edited out the group hugs & kumbaya singing ---
PhilsAttic right on Phil peace and love
Ray Sherlock i
Haha
This stuffs awesome, nice to see things off screen after and before movies
really cool work man

Why do people have such opinions on how people are , everyone is different take people as they are , he's an artist !
Phil wasn't pissed off. Phil is always like that. Watch other videos.
Cinema history. Glad to see Phil not just still kicking but high kicks too. Nice surrounding team.
That's our man, Phil -- so chilled and at home. They're in his cave and he's the king.
Had to go buy the first 2 parts of Mad God right away and those were - gorgeous - and - fuuuuun. Thanks!

Wonderful!
Thank you Phil!
What is the name of those pre made armatures?
Would like to check it out.
Thanks
Mad God looks amazing!
I was in a store about a block from ILM and noticed Dennis Muren looking at 35mm items that later turned out to be for the mine car chase in Temple of Doom. One could hardly go anywhere in Marin without running in to Lucas and these other guys.
What an interesting guy would love to look round his studio
I used that Phicen 1/6 scale body for my Hot Toys Bane kitbash. Fantastic product.
Where can you get those figures at 17:11? Would love to check them out.
Good ol Phil, he always has that slight look of distain on his face when forced to talk on camera.
I wonder how much each of those figures cost per unit
I hadn't heard about MadGod, and thrilled to get more info... A $600 buy-in for both chess pieces, plus other loot. Not a bad deal, if you have the money.
Love to see how Kayte works.
Sean is getting better at interviewing on camera
I can't wait to see his movie!
0:46 it sounds like he is calling him "Filth"
LMAO
OK Norm, where did you get your Atari CX40 joystick exploded view T-shirt?! So want one!
can the 3d prints be accessed online?
guys go easy on Phil he's in hist studio doing shit, I hate it when people ask about what I'm doing in the studio
Does anyone know what the pre made armatures are that Phil was using?
www.ebay.com/p/Jiaoudol-1-6-Pom-Female-Steel-Stainless-Figure-Body-Suntan-Large-Bust-Model/1342454166
Phil has a Jan Svankmajer beard and Quay brother hair. Very fitting.
Are the 3D prints of these available? I'd love to get my hands on a pair for my dejarik collection.
he didnt really want to talk but everyone has grumpy days
Why are people saying he looks pissed? He looks fucking normal...
Because the majority of RUclips commenters are complete assholes, who just want to bash someone, so they can feel better about their own shit lives.
no, you dumb shit
I don't think he looks pissed just looks like he is uncomfortable in front of a camera.
Moderator best example right here :D
15:40 - "Closhet" glasses?? what is the spelling of that word anyone please?? :)
cloche
The video shows half of the Bulbus mold being made, with the model in a clay to delineate the halves. But how is the other half made?
I believe they remove the clay half and spray a release on the latex half to prevent the second half of the mold fusing to the first when it's being poured
Where is he with mad god? Can u watch the first two parts?
Ain't Phil Tippett who fucked up on looking after the dinosaurs in Jurassic park, Dammit Phil, one job!
his one job is making creatures for movies not caretaking history.
oh no it's a joke on his profession Title in the credits as Dinosaur Supervisor. obviously it meant he supervised the special effects for the creatures but people like to read it as he was supervising the actual exctict animals in the movie and (jokingly) put blame on him for the entire plot XD

I've been using decimate in Blender for years, its a great tool.
That looks awesome.
It's great to see this stuff
They where making multiple chess figures
Where can I buy them ???
I want these figures so bad! Wish I had $600 to waste on these, but unfortunately not.
Link to Mesh files ? ;)
Phil Tippett, no fucks given. LOL
So, how is that updated indepth tour of Adams workshop/prop room coming along?
I always love seeing behind the scenes of stuff like stop motion, it's so cool and it would be amazing if films used it more than they do cgi, cgi's so bland compared to it, no magic.
Something is going on between those two at 10:02.
Brian Bagnall what are you talking about
What is the Kickstarter page?
www.kickstarter.com/projects/madgod/phil-tippetts-mad-god-part-3
Proof that Norm can say the "U" in figure.
Nice Jack Burton shirt Sean!
More content with Kayte please!
To understand Phil and Norm's relationship watch the Twilight Zone episode 'The Encounter'.
Any chance for a 3D scan so I can 3D print these models?
He should put mad god on netflix.
You can purchase the three parts on madgod.com way worth watching!!
So wait, where did he get those pre built armatures?
www.ebay.com/p/Jiaoudol-1-6-Pom-Female-Steel-Stainless-Figure-Body-Suntan-Large-Bust-Model/1342454166
want to know how zbrush works check out the BubblegumMonsters on RUclips he does tutorials on it
Sean's shirts are sometimes the best part of the videos. Big Trouble in Little China Shirt. Kind of sad it wasn't a tank top. ha ha. Phil Tippett would be the best Boss. No B.S. I admire that.
Very cool😮
Seems like a nice guy to me
Would be great to have a set of replicas of the screen used holochess pieces! Possibly pipecleaner bodies just for fan posing - static painted resin statues would still sell either way. I assume the digital files from Frank's build still exist so a 3D print could serve as an accurate master for each!
Phil doesn't like Norm? In all of Norm's interviews, it seems that Phil is really annoyed.
Look on his face: what the heck are you guys here wasting my time for?
Yay Kayte!
Sounds like The Dudes brother. "His dudeness, duder, or el dudorino"
"UM" is not a word!! oh lord......
Back here 4 yrs later- Mad God is the worst f**kin movie I’ve ever seen. It’s my Favorite. I’m enamored with it.. I Have to Watch It Again, and probably several more times.
That's really cool.
the intro use to say Jamie and Adam tested now it just says Adam tested. does Adam own tested? i figured norm and will did.
john bryant Well Adam owns it or at least is a main part of it at this point. I dont think Adam and Jamie wanted to keep working together after the end of Myth busters

Ryan Roberts, you do know its a reward for a project he is working on, im pretty sure if he wanted he could just not have done it as a reward, also he commented saying he wasn't pissed
Yep, fully aware of what it is! Doesn't stop him from looking pissed though!
I thought on the contrary, he seemed excited. Any excuse not to use a wire armature for some quickly made throwaway model when you can't justify spending a few days machining one is a good excuse, because it will just increase the quality of animation.
But then, i don't have much of a facial expression most of the time either.
is it just me or does Sean look like David Hayter?
Bulbous.
Well hello Kayte...
Zbrush and decimation - It's just a button ^^
These guys need to add the word "retopology" to their vocabulary.
Trying to say this as nice as possible but the finished product looks like something from a kids school art class ( 8-10 year olds)
Those are some talented kids then. You show me a video made by 5th graders like that and I'll show you kids with a promising future.
you lost me at decimation of polygons
Very cool! I need a girl who can use a Dremel and Xacto Knife! I mean she has to have her own, not use mine though. lol
I aint picky, I'll let her use mine.
As long as she is cute
* Insert dirty "Use my Dremel"-jokes here * ;)
I wish phill was my dad......
No links to kickstarter ?
The ears? the thing looked two headed to me.
Why does he need people donating on a Kickstarter Account, for his own personal fun ( 'Mad God' film), when by looking up his net worth, it shows it at approximately 5 million dollars ?
God damnit Norm - stop answering your own questions!
Dejarik
She called the excess material seaming I've always been taught that it's called flash
Bulbous...
Team Skrimp lol
I don't think Phil likes people very much
How on earth could you possibly make that determination from an interview about a 40-year-old project that didn't make much of an impression on him? It's possible to be reserved or not particularly peppy in front of a camera without being a complete misanthrope.
body language is super defensive. basically, grumpy
Anyone else think that Phill was pissed off?
yeah but he gave his best, that's cool
He seems the same way in other videos, I don't think it's anything personal, Norm does his best. I'm sure he's not that fussed, but I appreciate him giving some insight.
remixnick yeah I respect him as an artist and appreciate what he's doing, but maybe a little smile would be nice
The Hing - Believe it or not, some people don't grin stupidly all the time just for the benefit of others. Respecting him as an artist is great and all, but how about respecting him as a person and not expecting that he change his demeanor to be more pleasing to you?
he looks suicidal.
get some contacts. jesus
A true patriot!
Phil Tippet is very Rude, it's like all these nerds spend too much time indoors making tiny models, they have lost touch with people. Always very grumpy, almost never smiles and very unwelcoming!
Tippet defiantly doesn't like explaining his art.
Love Phil Tippett, but he always looks like he doesn't care at all
Norm has this effect
phil always seems so unimpressed with these guys and annoyed that he is doing these videos.
Not first
actually first though
again??? booooooooooring
Who wants to hear a joke
Me too
sorry, but looks like a cheep washed out bad toy.....
This guy gives me a smug and pissy vibe couldn't Finnish the video...Tested rocks though!
Same happened to me... couldn't keep watching after a couple of minutes...
Well you're an idiot... he's only in the video for like 5 minutes.
Anthony G. A smug and pissy guy doesn't spend decades self funding art projects
Haha the word is "finish." When you capitalize it and add 2 Ns you are talking about the Finnish language, which is spoken in Finland.
