With all due respect, that's baloney. The reason why learners of any language cannot become fluent despite several years of study is because they have spent years listening to overly-enunciated single words by teachers. This leaves them totally unprepared for rapid spoken and listening forms of natural conversation, with its contractions, elisions and omissions. A Japanese learner, for example, will invest massive amounts of time and money learning English, yet be utterly unable to engage with native speakers. If you accustom learners to the natural (rapid) form from the outset, it obviates this calamity. The speed here is perfect, because it acclimatises you automatically to swift natural speech. just what the doctor ordered!
