I wish they would use the full GP course for this race and cut the number of laps down to around 75 or so. It would be nice to see the drivers run some of the slower, more technical turns at the Glenn.
Nick Gillotti These cars wouldn't work well on the full course. They're 3,500lb, full size, 850hp cars set up for low down force, high speed circle track racing. They're simply can't do tight turns or change direction all that quickly.
Me too, honestly, and I grew up as a NASCAR fan. They're adding a roval to the calender this year, so that should be interesting. Of course, the mainstay races like Daytona 500 shouldn't change, but they could definitely replace a lot of "repeated races" and cookie-cutter 1.5 mile ovals with more road races.
NASCAR uses "dog-box" transmissions. The clutch is required on downshifts, but not upshifts. Group A touring cars in the early 90s (like the famous BMW E30 M3 and Mercedes Evolution II) also used those before most series moved over to sequential transmissions in the mid-late 90s.
Diana González González I looked into it some more, and I found out NASCAR now uses a dogbox with straight-cut gears which means, although it's still possible to heel-and-toe for down shifting and probably safer to do so if you have to slow down fast, it's possible to downshift without the clutch if it's in the right rev range sort of like a sequential transmission. So, you're right. I was thinking about the old style gearboxes both NASCAR and touring cars used in the 90s when drivers used the clutch on downshifts. Rusty Wallace even had his own way of heel-and-toe braking that's pretty much the opposite of how most race drivers do it.
