    Greetings future Boilermakers,
    Congratulations on your acceptance to Purdue University. If you're watching this between January and March then chances are you applied for Early Action. If not, then you probably did so for Regular Decision.
    Either way, I have made this video with the intention of providing all the info, that I can think of, that might be useful for accepted students.

    hey! friendly neighborhood sophomore here. some thoughts:
    1) something that went unmentioned about jumping the tracks! you jump north-south before your time at purdue starts to signify your start in college, and then once you graduate you jump south-north.
    2) most people don't graduate in four years anyway due to many extenuating circumstances. it's wonderfully okay to not graduate in four years--makes the belltower much less of a threat.
    3) i went sledding at slayter last year around midnight in 0 degree (F) weather. both do and don't recommend. however, if you're looking to go sledding, i recommend getting a sled VERY early (last year, every target and walmart in the vicinity sold out!).
    4) being undecided is perfectly okay. switching majors is perfectly okay. i should've been undecided (i'm on my third major in a year and a half).
    5) the honors college at purdue has a lot of benefits like guaranteed freshman housing in some pretty nice dorms and earlier pick of classes. it's not for everyone but it's worth looking into.
    boiler up, hammer down, hail purdue!

    I want to thank you Harry for all that you highlight about Purdue! Going through the process it has been a huge help to have somebody so involved in sharing the campus for others. I will most likely be going to Purdue in the fall and these videos make me slightly more confident on what to expect. I hope to possibly see you there!

    Hey Harry, loved your video! I’m in PMO with the Purdue Varsity Glee Club and I just wanted to say that if you miss our audition deadline before your freshman year, we also welcome and encourage auditions from students already enrolled at Purdue. Thanks for showing everyone around our awesome campus!

      Hey Connor, thanks for the invite! I actually did make the deadline before coming to Purdue and I was in UChoir my freshman year. UChoir seemed like it could be fun for a lot of folks but due to covid and time commitment it was hard for me. I didn’t really know anyone in the group after a year so I dropped out. It might have been different if the circumstances were different, but it wasn’t what I expected. I hope ur having fun in Glee though! If u know Luke say hi to him for me!

    Small bit of advice:
    I'd recommend getting a bike (plus a bike lock) or a skateboard or something. It makes traveling to classes so much faster! Probably the smartest purchase I made, I'm my opinion. Just make sure to remember to lock it up or it might end up in a tree.

      @@HarryHTF hi Harry! So I was just filling out the learning community application and omg there are so many! I read up about some of them and they all sound equally good. What according to you are the best/worst learning communities on campus?

  • @kathycail5339
    @kathycail5339 2 года назад +4

    Harry- just an fyi- general housing (not LCs) doesn’t matter if you fill it out now or May 15th. You made it sound like the faster you sign up the more certain you are to get housing.

    • @HarryHTF
      @HarryHTF  2 года назад +1

      Oh yeah I don’ know why I said that. Thanks for the catch! In my head I was thinking it was based on first come first serve basis. You are guaranteed an on campus housing assignment though if you’re accepted to LCs I believe

    Thanks for sharing. We got deferred for FYE. Trying to digest this situation, and planning to write back to the school.

    • @HarryHTF
      @HarryHTF  2 года назад +1

      Wish you the best of luck. My guess is that Purdue accepted way fewer students this year due to the overflowing housing situation stemmed from accepting too many last year.

    • @alaluke7159
      @alaluke7159 2 года назад +1

      Slightly disappointed since it kinda feels like we are second in line. Not sure how to feel about this even after a possible acceptance after being placed in the regular decision group. How would you or others feel about this?

    • @HarryHTF
      @HarryHTF  2 года назад +2

      @@alaluke7159 well, Purdue was actually not my first choice. Nor did I have a first choice. I wanted to keep options open. I was waitlisted at UMich. I assume the only reason I was deferred and not rejected was because I had a great interview with UMich interviewer who was an Alum. I was eventually rejected. But because I was rejected, I ended up at Purdue, and I’m glad I did. Sometimes, one door closed is simply a sign that the right door is waiting for you to open. I’d say don’t give up hope yet. It can feel like being placed second when you’re waitlisted but considering how Purdue underestimate the number of students accepting their offers last year, I see this as a Purdue safety precaution. You definitely have a great profile, cause Purdue didn’t reject you. I think they are simply waiting to see how many more students apply and what those students profiles are like before making the final round of judgement. Trust the process and everything will work out!

    • @alaluke7159
      @alaluke7159 2 года назад

      @@HarryHTF Thanks for the insight on the number of acceptances that were underestimated by the school. I was probably more bummed out or not feeling so great than our daughter since I did more research on this based on major she picked out. She did get acceptance to a good handful of schools already although Purdue was one of the top choices. What is weird is that she did her best on those questions and submitted the most accurate info about her experiences. It’s one of those things on not what more to add. At the end, it will work out for the best as you lead onto. Thanks for giving us support on this. I will share this with her tomorrow.

    • @alaluke7159
      @alaluke7159 2 года назад +1

      @@HarryHTF oh, I did mentioned that this she got the deferred and not waitlisted where waitlisted happens after the regular decisions having been given out. The deferred list is when you apply for early decision (before Nov 1) and then, the school gives out the decision in the same year. If you are deferred, your name get placed in the regular decision pool of candidates. We will be waiting patiently going forward.
