Thank you for your detailed and pleasantly presented radio reviews! I just bought a pair of Motorola T62 radios and did some testing in a rural setting. We have about 150-300 ft (50-100 m) height differences in the terrain, the hills are solid rock, and forests are really dense. The receiving radio was at home in a concrete house on the kitchen table. It got good reception all the way from 3 km away and definitely there was no line of sight. The reception was of course heavily influenced by the location I was transmitting from. If I was more than a kilometer away and behind a big hill I had no signal going through at all, but from a less obstructed position no problems at all. These small and cheap radios are excellent for activities with friends and family. Hiking, driving in a small convoy, bicycling, shopping, doing yard work and gardening etc. Thank you, engineers, for making the world a better place. Now I have T92 H20, T82 Extreme and T42 sets also in the mail. Each model has it's own strengths and at these prices why not have them all. As to the commercial models, XT420, XT660 etc, I do not have any use for the extra functions and more robust construction so they are not worth the steep price increase for my use. In that price range I would go for more serious non-PMR446 radios with more power, better replaceable antennas etc.
Perfect for family, beach, camping, ski mountain, fun use. Their range and sound quality is fantastic as of course a Motorola product of this type is expected to offer. I absolutely love them and I would still love them had I payed three times their price. Absolute value for money PS: I've had them for about a year now and had no idea about the 16 channel trick. Thanks for that. Never had issues with the 8 channels but I love them even more now
Buy on Amazon - geni.us/motot42 (PMR446) or geni.us/t114 (FRS) --- If you'd like to support the channel, please use this affiliate link to check out the Motorola T42.
I have bought a triple set for my kids. Now I should buy another two for us parents, because T42s are compact little beasts for hiking or running around.
kids got them for x-mas. nice little chaps. love the ergonomic value there. and thank YOU for showing me how to enable the 16-channel option ,-) great content!
Glad you found it helpful. I would recommend your kids use channels 9-16. There are far fewer businesses on those frequencies so they are less likely to be heard, interfere with other radios or have other radios interfere with them so they'll get better performance!
I would always be happy to recommend Motorola to anyone who knows little about PMR radio. Guaranteed audio quality and range. These look like they would be great in a car to car convoy and so cheap for a Motorola.
I am not into walkie talkies but I figured out I need 2 of those Motorola for when I go into the park playground with my 5 year old in order to allow him more freedom of movement and I could sit on a bench and relax and just call him from time to time to make sure he is all right and I need something as compact as possible, as light as possible and this also looks child friendly, has a nice toy shape, not those black rectangular things. And the AAA batteries don't bother me as I have lots of rechargeable AAAs and chargers and in case my battery runs out (forgetting to recharge) AAA I can find in 95% of the stores. Good review. Thank you! I think I will buy them.
They can transmitt when off. When off click power and then click ptt or call and it will start to transmit for some time even when all buttons are released. And the display is still off
Yes, it would make them much better but, equally, having a walkie where you can just have a ton of AAA batteries ready to go means you don't have to worry about charging at all. It's fiddly but it could be useful in some scenarios.
Brilliant video! Thanks so much. As a metal detectorist, I’m looking for a cheap & cheerful set up for me and a couple of pals who detect together. We often end up some way apart & in the fields & need something to communicate together. Seems like they do the job although the volume of batteries is a concern. Very informative, thanks again. Marcus
Try these. A fair bit more expensive but vastly better battery life and USB rechargeable so you can use a power bank - Motorola XT185 ruclips.net/video/Jg2AbYHkMhw/видео.html
you need to buy one wall charger for each radio put the second set of battery's on your pocket for the second part of the day IN my everyday Carrie I have a extra battery pack for each radio
Nice review. I'd be interested in a mountaintop range test on this! Motorola suggests range on these lower than T62, not sure why given the legal limits on the PMR spec...
**EDIT** We've got these, one thing that's really annoying is the battery life is horrendous but I'm glad I just watched this channel though as we had them stuck on channels 1-8 channels which was causing us a lot of crossovers around us so hopefully 9-16 will help us. Honestly though, the battery's drain so quickly it's annoying.
@@tdcattech first we were using cheap old AAA barriers but now we’re using Energizer rechargeables, still the same; they last about 3 days and that’s it. Very frustrating, lovely little set of Talkies just a shame they drain the batteries.
I bought this for my children today. I love the quality of the product as well the sound is clear and the range is long. However, while they were playing and having some convo on the walkie-talkie, a male's voice joined their conversation. 😨
This can happen as it's a shared band used by small business too. Take a look at this video here where I cover some of these considerations. ruclips.net/video/iZnz9GIiDJM/видео.htmlsi=OwyyZaBwq4kVSrhI
Yeah, I don't see an equivalent US/Canada FRS-legal product but for all I know there might be one out there now. I'll bet the Retevis BL-45 Li-Ion packs would fit in these though they are probably worth more than these radios.
to get the 16 miles this is what you need to do first buy a CD ROM load on computer then donload a three dizet number to a G M R S repeter know you will get you 16 miles and you need a license to do that and I do have a license to do that

rember you have about 1 mile to play with before you are out of range with the
radio a 1/2 of a watt I refer to them as a child locater radio

I have absolutely no idea why I am watching this :D but it's quite entertaining :)
That’ll do. 👍🏻
as he did not read the book that came with it there are a 1/2 watt radio

Planning for a 5day trip with my friends tomorrow with two cars. Definitely gonna pick them up😊💪
rember your in a tin can and you signel will be half as the car will interfear with
your range.
just bought the 4 pack, hope me and my friends will use its true potential
TdCat i appreciate your help guiding people how to use the walki talkie T42

Great review! Ty
Very useful review and test. Thank you!
in one of three the mic doesn't work. even though i can hear with it. what's wrong?
How about the Motorola t62? If you know anything it would be helpful!!
sit down and read the book that came with the box then you will know.
Thanks for your videos. Cool little Walkie-Talkie! I see me using them with my nephews
I love them. I was using them last week with my two boys in the park, and they’re a perfect size and weight for my three-year-old.
it was almost perfect for my application except for the AAA batteries uptime of about 6 hours before needing to be replaced
But they're so easy to replace. You can just carry a few sets in your bag or even just your pocket.
Tnx for the review. It's perfect.
Nice walkie-talkies torsten. It's a pity they haven't got micro usb charging. Thanks for sharing.

@@tdcattech yeah your right.
In general, do rechargeable last longer than regular batteries? Nice video.
For this type of application, yes. Get some good quality rechargeable cells and you’re sorted. 👍🏻
I always carry a back up battery for mine so I can go all day long
hi, is it necessary to have that station to connect it or can you use them directly?
all FRS radio's o
in the USA are the same in side the radio the package changes with the brand

Yes, I also wondered this. They are surely identical spec radio wise.
@@tdcattech I'm leaning towards the T62s still, mainly because of the USB charging. Maybe I'll get two of each and compare!

What batteries are you using? I have found using a good cell like Eneloops (geni.us/elaaa) or even Amazon Basics rechargeable work well in these.

Hello! Does it support earphones? Bluetooth?
I would read the book and it will tell you everything
I agree, they are amazing, it seems that price does not match the quality, they are too good:)

Thanks for distance review, i don't want that junk )))
Would these work as a baby monitor?
No. You really want a powered device for that IMHO.
How to set it up as baby monitor???
Did you managed ?
Motorola Talkabout T38 Review Please Sir.....
motorola t42 is so good

geni.us/t114 - It took a bit of digging around but this is the US equivalent for FRS regions.

In US 446.000 is not FRS. Only A licensed user like me could talk on that. In USA that is a ham radio and would be illegal.
Very true. The T42 is a UK and EU radio. The FRS equivalent is the Motorola T114 - geni.us/t114
Yay
