    John and Catherine are a husband and wife team from Southern Connecticut. We grow food and flowers on the new 40 acre farm we just bought and are building from the ground up using reclaimed materials whenever possible.

    John's fiber consistency at the start reminded me of what steel wool looks like. Catherine's started out looking like cotton candy consistency. They both turned out nicely though. lol loved the jokes and watching how you each felt about the process.

    Holy cow! That had to have been the longest 12:42 video in history! How long did it take? Days? Hysterical ball references. I never would have thought of alpaca dryer balls, awesome! Thanks for a very informative funny video.

    We tried to make them as well and I hated it. We did buy 50 balls at $2.50 a piece and sold them all. Thanks for the video and I felt Cats pain. Lol

      Where did you get yours for 2.50 each ?? Was that using your fiber or someone else's? The person we are sending our fiber to to get balls back is very far away I wonder if someone closer could save us on shipping

    Nice Juggling, LOL I am learning something every time I watch one of your video's. Alpaca Dryer Balls who would have thought. How long do they last for? Do they basically work like dryer sheets? I am sharing this one, Awesome.

      Yea like dryer sheets help reduce wrinkles and also should reduce drying time. Thank you so much for watching !

      Yah we have a friend who does felted little art pieces. She uses those needles. I'd say we will look into those but I think that paying someone else to do them might be better so we can work on other projects

    So cool! We have a mini mill in Guthrie and they use local goods to mill. I am supposed to go tour the place and do a video just have been so busy restoring the farm that I haven’t done it yet. But this is way too cool. Y’all have a blessed weekend! Wendy🐞🦋🙏🏻🇺🇸

    Fun video for demo purposes for sure. All the fullers and felters I've ever talked to say the same thing - too much water, too much time, too much work. The only exception to that are those who felt as an art medium. I give you both an A ;)

    I’ve never heard of dryer balls. I have no idea what they are for. Found the process interesting but I think I’d rather pay the $2.50 each for someone else’s to do it as I’d be like cat and hate doing it. So please tell me what their used for? Enjoyed watching guys.

    • @RiverWoods111

      Dryer balls are added to your dryer when you are drying clothes. They bounce around inside the dryer and clothes and help everything to dry quicker and I think with less wrinkles. I only use them when I am doing bedding as bedding will twist up and then you end up with huge wet spots that are hard to get dry. That said, I just buy some cheap a** tennis balls and throw them into the dryer with my sheets and blankets. I am intrigued with the dryer balls because I think you could add some aromatic oils to them. I believe they are to replace dryer sheets that have all the chemicals in them. Like I said, I only use tennis balls to get my bedding to dry faster.

      @@RiverWoods111 that’s such an amazing idea. It’s odd I’ve not herd of it here. I do like the idea of the aroma on natural product. Thanks for explaining mate. I love to learn new ideas.

    If you really want to make them yourselves, try getting nylon pantyhose stockings, roll up your roving balls, and shove them into the legs of the nylons, tying a knot after each one. Make the nylon stretch tight around each ball. You can get several into each leg of the nylons, then cut the legs off the panty part. Then, put them into the washing machine with a little laundry detergent, hot wash, cold rinse, and run it on whatever setting gives you the most agitation. Nylons will peel off easier, and also let the water and suds penetrate easier. Then run them through the dryer. Cut the sections apart and peel off the nylons. Its worth a shot before you give up. If it works, you can fill a bunch of them to put through all at the same time and its not nearly as much work. I've only done wool, and only like three in knee high nylon stockings, so I cant say for sure how it will go. Alpaca is harder to felt than wool. It lacks the little barbs that wool has that helps it stick like velcro to itself.

    • @OldReddingFarm
      @OldReddingFarm  Год назад

      we tried with panty hose and the fiber got so stuck to the stockings that we ended up needing them to be cut apart to get off. I am not sure how to prevent that

    • @13MoonsOverMayhem
      @13MoonsOverMayhem Год назад

      @@OldReddingFarm huh, I wouldn’t have thought it would be that bad. With wool it only sticks a little and comes off pretty easy. If I learn anything more about it I’ll let you know!
