I remember I had the tangerine 🍊 one when I was in college. We were required to have this model for our digital design and web building classes. I still have mine and it still works.
This is just the best vintage Mac vídeo I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen plenty! These machines are not just to be collectible, they’re meant to be used like you do! Amazing video 😍
Oh sweet! I'm delighted you found it useful. Also insanely jealous you have the key lime version, I'd love to collect that (which seems impossible) and a tangerine (nearly impossible!)
Admittedly I haven't really used it since. I was more curious of what one could technically do with it 20 years later. COMING SOON: Editing Arri Alexa on a 2008 MacBook Pro! :D
Great video! I feel the exact same way as you. I feel so emotionally attached to the iBook clamshell. I desperately want to make it do as many modern features as possible. It’s easy to forget that the internet was a baby when it was released, and today we rely on internet for almost all daily tasks. Do you still use the iBook these days?
Hi Mectojic, Glad you enjoyed the video. No, I don't really use the iBook these days - I thought the concept of the video was a fascinating experiment and seeing how far you could push old Tech.
I really wanted to be like Elle woods and use it for college, but now knowing it’s runs Microsoft word pretty slowly, ill just have to find a modern laptop.
Great info plan on doing some mods on a iMac g3 400 dv just got the 2 512mb ram sticks in just waiting on the HDD replacement. This is the first I've heard of that browser and getting RUclips to work without using youview while I mostly plan on booting 9.2 and playing old games I'm definitely inspired to push it to the limits now good work!
Very cool. The iMac should definitely get a speed boost with the new hard drive. It's always fun to push old Tech to it's limit - stay tuned as I have a video dropping really soon of how to revive an Old Netbook!
I have one of these and I'd love to make it into something useable. It's indestructible. It was made for kids with its own handle. The sockets are all recessed so they can't be bashed. And no camera... you have to pay extra for that these days. It's going to need more processor though isn't it? Needs an M1 I think. Keep the original screen. 480p is plenty.
Why wouldn't you want a camera - were you immune to all the ZOOM calls needed the past year? I think there's people on RUclips who mod iBooks with MacBook Airs inside!
@@ImLeeLoi Yeah - or this: ruclips.net/video/gq7nroTj-LA/видео.html It's only a matter of time before he makes a silicon version. @@mzs112000 I don't think Modern Wi-Fi cards exist for it unless you go USB route. The airport card in mine couldn't even connect to new unsecured Wi-Fi.
Umatrix plugin will block tracking and ads and will speed up your browsing. Also look in to tethering an android phone to your iBook via usb. You will then be able to connect to any WiFi hot spot. The airport card only supports WPA and limited WPA2. Great video!

How did you get RUclips to play and the user agent stuff with ArcticFox?
The Macrumors forum explains it all in more detail. I didn't reinvent the wheel. There's a great community there of PPC preservationists. :)
Done for the user agent but it seems like it doesn’t apply changes and load the same youtube page without asking for quicktime to load the media …
I've seen others mention that it's country dependent!

If you find the MacRumors forum posting it has much better instructions than what I can give as it's been 2 years since I've done this. Apologies.
