My band played a show in Indy with Hellwitch in '16 and the guy had a full Splawn rig with Bernie Rico Jr guitars..it was one of the sickest displays ever.
I have only watched the intro, but holy shit what a massive sound dude.
Sounds smart to me.. get what you want.. good choice on the black panel and old school grill cloth.. 800 style headshell.. my 2007 QR was a bit dark.. no treble or presence would fix it so i took out the half power switch and put a 3 way toggle bright switch on it so i can go from dark to sizzle to ice pick if i want.. i also invested in a WIZARD LEOPARD overdrive.. and depending upon the settings turns my Splawn QR in a raging WIZARD.. really should look into it.. cheers. .
So crazy how the QR circuits vary by year. My 2004 EL34 QR has that very bright low gain plexi upper mid bark on gear 1. So much so that a vintage 30 loaded cab is almost painful lol. Gears 2 and 3 are very full sounding but there is nothing dark about my particular year. I also have a '22 KT88 QR fully loaded that is entirely different animal. More gain all the way around in each gear but still very tight and clear. I could see how that one would be considered a darker circuit. Even with the old switch engaged its not the same (not as bright) as the '04. Just a different flavor of chugging awesomeness 🤘🤘🤘
Great video! Such clarity in this tone! One of your best tones so far man! Glad to hear you have other Splawns because if it was me I'd be selling a lot of other amps from your herd before this one lol. Too each their own! 🤘🤘🤘
Great sounding curcuit. Hurrah for Marshall and Splawn!
Great video, Kyle! Dang, I never thought I'd see the day. When I first saw you post this online for sale, I had to do a double take.
Get what you love to hear. Also, gotta agree with yo quick rod tone-it-be🤘
I’ve heard guys in Marshall forums say how “miserable the Quickrod is for playing classic rock and AC/DC style stuff” and I 100% disagree. Yeah, there is a little more juice, but you can get an overall more desirable tone imo than on a stock Marshall.
Dont know if they actually own a QR.. but in GEAR 1 with the gain at about 9-10 O'clock.. i get GREAT vintage plexi tones.. can go form Malcolm and add the Solodallas storm pedal and get instant ANGUS.. its awsome. then go to gear 2 OD 2 and drive some metal.. most versatile amp i own.. I went to see Scott when i was in the area and he said its a Marshall tone stack.. but he took the ICE PICK out of the circuit.. and added levels of gain.. great amps.. but some can be dark.. some bright..
If you want the super plexi, Friedman has that old flubby feel. Splawn is like bowling with the gutters on. It's rail tight, can't flub if you wanted it to.
@@user-ug8nc9wu3x I’ve owned a couple Friedman’s and I could gel with them….its almost like the are low and high pass filtered and just missing some of the more aggressive frequencies I look for. Great amps, but they are missing something to my ears.
I bought it's twin from Derrick. I love the amp, and it absolutely rips with a boost in front of it. A little noisey compared to other amps with a built in gate, but it's got tone for dayssssss.
I have a Splawn Nitro SS, and I think it's ok. The baby clean channel is useless (just a volume and a gain knob), but I live on the OD2 when I do play it. The amp really shines when I stick a ThisHeavyEarth Titan pedal in the loop, pushing it where I want it to be. The mid button is cool for leads and it smoothes out the amp a bit. Mine is pretty picky about the OD pedal I put in front of it, but I just got a King in Yellow and haven't tried it out on the Splawn yet.
Ok, I pulled the back out and you know what? It sounds way better than I remember! Maybe it's because I'm playing it through a guitar with a Seymour Duncan Blackout in the bridge, but it response really well to my playing and plugging in the King in Yellow actually works really well with the Nitro SS. But I remember when I first got the amp, I had a similar experience as you did, Kyle. I recently got a NRG Nuclide and I have been playing through all it's modes (6 of them, in fact) and my Splawn has a different voicing, so I think it will stay in my collection for the time being.
Have you ever tried an hm2 or similar style pedal in front
The Competition is my next amp purchase.
Sooo much gear.. Lucky man !
What tuning is he playing in? That sounds heavy as hell!!
I have been wanting to buy another single channel marshall type circuit. I would really love to hear the Splawn’s shot out with a JMP 2203/JCM800 with Scary Mod
Where do you live? The splawns are tight and I have an original hot mod. I used to have a 78' JMP MV and that combo was very 80's and wooly in the lows compared to anything Splawn has ever made.
That Epiphone guitar is beautiful !
Well, I think that amp sounds great.
Hey Kyle, just reached out to Scott for a question and he doesn’t do the amps without the switches anymore unfortunately :/ There’s one price and it’s the “fully loaded”.
9:48 LOL
its funny - i got an OLD pro-stock and it sounded killer, but I wanted a clean channel, so I sold it and ordered a brand new quickrod. boy was I so sad with the new quick rod - i dont know what the hell changed considering Scott swears up and down there isnt any change - but there is. period.
I like you Kyle! You tell it like it is!
Man epiphones are getting good I thought that was a gibson for a good minute
I don't think this dude has ever held on to an amp for more than a year.
well, had this one for four, ironically.
Are you reformed?
Kyle, you said Marshall cab😂 You're using a Mesa cab! Must be contact high from all that gear..😂🎉
In my old age I'm becoming an EMG fan. Shouldn't I be a vintage passive pickup fan at this point.🤔
Haha not really honestly. Tastes changes with age. I’m 40 and until a few years ago I only swore by amps with a shit ton of gain like the 5150 line for example, but the more I get older, I still want an amp with a lot of gain sure, but more refined, clearer, tighter and classic sounding like a Splawn (for example). I now way prefer my Peavey 3120 than the 5150. As for pickups, I still prefer active like EMG and Fishman, especially the latter for its clarity and tightness. Voice 2 is passive so I have both in the same pickup, which is great. I love the passive Seymour Duncan Dimebucker though.
sounds amazing but amps come and go !! :
Get off my Splawn!!
finger tone in full effect.
But why? It sounds amazing? Guess I’ll have to watch and see…..😢
If you still have that Peavey Ultra 120, and feel the need to get rid of it, I'll gladly let you give it to me as a birthday gift. 😁😁😁
Why on earth would you sell that amp? It sounds so good and I'm not even 10 seconds into the video
Tell me your moving into a dedicated studio space? The freedoms that will allow, are infinite. I can picture the sickest layout of ALL RUclips guitar channels. The soon to be king, of belligerent amateur riffage, shall take the throne. Mosh on through the rivers of red!
It sounds great, but it lacks that raunch and sizzle in the top end.
For my opinion his have too much treble/presence.
Just shows that what you hear isn’t necessarily what someone else hears, arguing about tone is one of the stupidest arguments ever
@@tommilitello198 my point was I could hear what it's lacking which is exactly why he is selling it.
*The only person looking for an argument here is you.*
@@tommilitello198 who's arguing? Stop trolling for a fight. Nobody is fighting about tone. I'm a shred and sweep guitarist, and I also went to college for electrical/electronics engineering, so IDGAF about tone squabbles.
@@tommilitello198 creating arguments where there's none is the epitome of stupid...well done....
