...reminiscent of what happened to the Africa Corps at El Alamein- except they fared a whole HELL of a lot better than the Germans at Stalingrad: unlike Paulus- Rommel wasn't afraid to defy Hitler to save his men...
The doom of Paulus and the 6th army at Stalingrad stands as a metaphor for when 2 narcissistic psychopaths like Hitler and Stalin clash…All humanity is lost. I didn’t want the Nazis to succeed but from a military perspective, what a cruel, shameful waste of lives. 15:56
@@daleburrell6273 Oh yes absolutely. The people that suffer the most are the innocent civilians, I don’t even know how many civilians were killed but I do know the deaths of the innocent far out numbered the soldiers. War or combat, I can tell you from personal experience (I was an army medic) hold No glory. Just misery, suffering and death. Talk, communication do anything but avoid war. I have no answer regarding Hitler because I don’t think anything could have discouraged him, he seems to deliberately seek war but he should never have come to power.
They got everything that was coming to them. After all catastrophic event they unleased on the Russian people as they crossed their country. Killed all the men raped all the women. Butchered all the livestock. Bombed Stalingrad flat. Then got their ass handed to them
If you mean Fuhrer as in Hitler, not furer as in fury then I absolutely agree! His rate of advance was totally unrealistic and his order were delusional. What a cruel waste of his own men. Pure psychotic narcissistic orders that had no chance for success! A military Moron!
There’s no question Paulus surrendered, I can’t imagine why anyone would think otherwise. Mind you he was looked after by the Russians whereas his poor men went from a frozen hell into gulag limb.

...THAT SUMS IT UP PERFECTLY!!!
Awesome diary

You need a diary from a Russian officer at the battle.

He wasnt captured. He surrendered
Yes 👍

A German POW had a much better chance of survival than those exterminated in Nazi Concentration Camps.
...pretty much the same thing...
@@daleburrell6273 no surrendered when you give up the fight. Captured when they over take you
His wife were send to a concentration camp after him surrendering
Interesting I didn't knew it.
Many years later he was released and returned to Germany. He was captive for a decade. Not mistreated, either.
Grim!
Exactly the misfortunes of war. Under the orders of a diabolical/arrogant/disillusioned dictator 😈
