WWII Artillery Shell Speaker Build!
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 11 июл 2024
- This video showcases the transformation of a 90 mm World War II artillery shell into a unique and beautiful speaker. The process involves removing the shell's primer, designing speaker components with SolidWorks software, and crafting a stand shaped like a swan. The speaker system includes a subwoofer and full range driver with both passive and active modes. Insulation is used to create standing waves for improved sound quality. The design aims to combine art and functionality, and the speaker system features Bluetooth connectivity for versatility. The creator also discusses the emotional significance of this artwork and its potential use in artistic endeavors.

Uhm dude - you have a mind we see once in a century. When i see an artillery shell I don't immediately go "whoa, speaker!" This is awesome
Fun and thank you!
literally a work of art. when you first started playing back your voice, I didn't realize it was from the speaker itself!!!! I thought it was your own natural voice in the room....that really messed with my mind....I was only convinced when you moved around to the back of the shell and I could clearly hear it was off-axis....but man! This is pure technical genius mixed with artistic genius!
Thank you so much!!
Shell-shockingly good!
🤙🤙🤙
Ooh dave... you make those kerfs look easy.
🔧👍🔧
This has to easily be one of the most beautiful speakers ive ever seen
Awesome and thank you!
I hear the ocean when I hold a shell to my ear...
...
Dave Rat: "Hold my beer" ; )
🤙🔧🔧🤙
Hahahaha! Yes. The mind of a man in love.
Super Cool Dave👌🏼👌🏼...It looks great and I bet it sounds good too. Awesome to see your artistic side as well👍🏻👍🏻. Thank you and enjoy it!
🤙🎛️🤙
This is absurdly awesome :)
Love the creative vs destructive concept
🔧👍🔧
Very bob ross vibes. Thank you for showing this process!! What an amazing job!!
👍🔧👍
Don't think bob ross would've ever used such a shell for his work.
it sounds really good. lots of inspiration from someone who knows how
👍🤙👍
Glad to finally see this completed!
👍🤙👍
Very nice design Dave
👍🤙👍
Love it
Really remarkable project, Dave! Thanks for documenting and sharing with us, truly brilliant. Loved seeing the design and construction process.
Cool cool thank you Pat!
BRAVO! 👏😃
👍🔧👍
Incredible!
🤙👍🤙
Very cool!
👍🎛️👍
Wow, that looks nice. Great job.
🤙🔧🤙
Super Dave!!! Looks very, very good! Thanks for the video! 🙂

@@DaveRat in this video you add some weight, i think, on the sub speakers... what is the effect en how does it work...?
And i am very curious when you compare the little amp with a pro amp!
The added weight lowers the resonant frequency of the speaker. In this case I lowered it from 90 Hz to 45 Hertz. It won't get as loud or handle as much power but the tone will be much lower and deeper
@@DaveRat thanksss
Dude... I have a cowbell made from a WW1 brass artillery casing... turned into a vase... then damaged with shrapnel. Pressure vessel... Great minds think alike... bullets everywhere...
Very cool. Gonna be resonant.
👍🤙👍
So... Tchaikovsky - 1812 Overture, when?
👍🔧👍
Make sound, not war!!! ❤️📢
👍👍👍
Hmm. Makes me think of the RHCP guitarist playing a solo and making this speaker feedback while on the santa monica beach. Etc…..
🎛️🤙🎛️
I like the way you think.
🎛️🤙🎛️
We need more brains working like your 😜
Nice!!
What amp board is it?
Live Sound Audio Einstein. That's Mr. Rat

I suspect the first kerf cut failed because the plywood sheet wasn't flat. I have a router with vacuum table (30"x40"), and I have had that problem. I've had to come to terms with the fact that sheet materials are not flat!
I messed up the depth of cut setting on the CNC setup in fusion 360. I had it was n manual select and forgot to select bottom of cut instead of bottom of model. The vacuum table sucks all the wood down flat
What is the design software?
Solidworks
Thought you might find this interesting .
Reminded of what we called the 'bulletshell' which is more likeliy a korea, ww2 or Vietnam ordinance shell. do you know anything else about it, Dad?
Hope ykure having a good day, i. Working on that turntable you very kindly dropped into me.
Also, as wi ter is winding down, i will also pull down and repack the 'magic heater' you lent me.
I havent looked at the power usage, but it was usually only on one, maybe 2... great machine, and i expect massively efficient.
Ill get thatt done so when yku are up this wy i can get it back to you..
Love you lots, hope you find this interesting,
Love xKip
Very cool interesting
Did you put adhesive in the kirf slots for extra strength? Or is it just not necessary?
Haa just answered it
Before I poured the resin I sealed the kerfs with durhams so the resin wouldn't leak out the kerf slots
@@DaveRat very Kool project, you're truly a wizard. One of the last modern magician's. Thanks for sharing everything. If you're ever in Georgia BBQ's on me.
Hell yes and thank you! I'd totally be up for a Georgia BBQ!
Dave are you downsizing ? It's amusing to see you going from 30"woofers fed with 10kW to experimenting with 3" woofers.... May the Force & the Fun be with you :-)
Different adventures. Working on my solidworks and cnc skills well also building a fun speaker. We kind of need a center speaker for the home Hi-Fi might as well do something unique
Your videos are always entertaining & informative. Up-cycling objects that are destined for a scrapheap into functional works of art promotes creativity. A lot more unique & fun than buying an off the shelf product.... Thanks for the inspiration :-) @@DaveRat
🤙👍🤙
war what is it good for?
Making lots of spare parts and broken stuff to fix I guess.
why not a horn?
What would we honk at?
Horns increase output at the expense of fidelity, great if you want loud and don't care if it sounds as good.
Nice. How did you fix the shell to the stand?
Would it blow up a tank? 😁
Not anymore
