I love me some AnnenMayKantereit. This is one of their older songs, like from 10 years ago, and singer Henning May was just in his 20s in this. His voice has matured a lot since then: he still has that "gravel", but he actually has a beautiful, deep baritone and their newer songs are quite different from these old ones. He knows how to work with that voice, and he can also hit amazingly high notes beautifully. Thank you for this reaction!
Your African-American compatriots who respond to Henning May's voice have a word for what makes this voice so special: they call it “soul”. What they mean by this is a certain emotional depth and authenticity that does not come from drinking whiskey or smoking cigarettes, but from an “old soul”.
I feel this is one of the most breathtaking performances I’ve ever seen. The setting against this lovely song.. the sounds of the street around him just adds to the hauntingly gorgeous piano. What a simply beautiful song. This man and his companions are some of the most talented musicians I’ve seen in a very long time
I think I agree with you....I think, even though his voice is not beautiful, there is a beauty to his voice (I know that's a contradiction), and there's a haunting quality to it I can't quite put my finger on. I can also say, there's no one else on this entire planet that sounds like him!
We have this letter in german 'ß', it's a sharp S called Eszett and can also be replaced with a double S 🤓 Foreigners often read it as a b, that was probably why your requester got it wrong 😉 Greetings from Berlin 😎

Naja immer kann man das ß mit einem ss aber nicht ersetzen. Bsp: Massen & Maßen
