    the clip is for when using a pin binding without a break you can attack a leash to it so you don't lose your skis

    Great vid and great review. I love the fact that you open the boot and show all the parts (boot board, gusset, tongue... ). BTW, the loop on top of the boot is for leashes when skiing without brakes

    This was a very thorough review of the Salomon S/Lab MTN. I skied this boot as my dedicated Backcountry boot this season. I wanted to go all in on my BC setup this season. My set up included the S/Lab MTN 120 size 25.5 (291mm sole length), Dynafit Rotation 10 bindings and Volkl VTA 108 (173cm) with Volkl skins nylon/ mohair blend. I was very impressed with the accent and decent performance. Previously I skied the Nordica Strider 120 but the Salomon lighter and has great support and feel on the decent. The transition from hike to ski with sideward flip of the latch is easy to make which is important when you are standing on deep unpacked snow bending down. The boot is firm and skied well back in the resort. It does have an ISO 9523 rubber sole so you have to use it with pin tech bindings or Marker or Salomon bindings that will adjust to that sole. I did notice that the boot sole length is about 4mm shorter that all my Alpine boots. I recommend putting the boot into hike mode when you try them on and see how it feels when you flex back. I cooked the liners as recommended by !y Salomon sales representative , used a thin Superfeet footbed (blue) and used thin socks. It worked out good. The boot is firm and the liner is thin without much cushion so I will not use it as my everyday chair riding resort boot. We ski tour in the morning and do a few chair rides in the afternoon so it was good. Highly recommend this boot. Just as a reference we ski The season at Alta, Utah, USA. Lots of powder, off piste and backcountry.

      Awesome! Love this boot too. I swapped out the liner for a FT Intuition and they are super comfy!

    @Torstein
    Hey Torstein,
    Yeah so 105 is a fairly wide foot, but not outrageous. The thing to remember is it is not a game of exact mm. You need to find the balance of how much foot security you need to be stable, but not restricted.
    So with the last size, you have to remember that the extra 2mm should be when you draw your foot across, essentially compressing your foot narrower than your measurement, (which doesnt make it a mm reference,) but more a good visual guide when shell fitting.
    You might find that 100mm and 102mm lasts will be the way to go, and then either mold or stretch the boot to get the forefoot settled in where you need it.
    The reason is volume, you still need the right security at the heel, instep and lower leg to work.
    The variables in this process will be the footbed you use and also the amount of compression your feet can personally manage.
    I hope that helps it make more sense. :)
    Cheers

    Just bought a pair. Did an unboxing in my channel as well. Stoked to try them on the local skin tracks like Tumalo and the Cascade volcanoes. They should pair well with the shift bindings on some black diamond backcountry pros. Much Love. Interested to hear how you like them after a few turns.

    Love your comment on sizing when it comes to a touring fit vs. just an alpine. I always size down to get that heal lock in need but w/ my Hawk Ultra XTD I went with my true unweighted size, and my feet thx me every time I skin. (Also helps the Ultra is 98 mm last and seems to be a little lower across the instep ) want to hear your product review after your trip on these and your BC w/ the shifts

    Thanks for the review. Do you need touring bindings or will old ish markers be fine?

    • @PatriotFootbeds
      @PatriotFootbeds  5 лет назад

      Yeah you will need touring bindings for this boot. Has to be at a minimum MNC or compatable with the ISO 9523 sole. :)

    I heard the original liner for this boot was considered too expencive. So Salomon designed a cheaper one. Of course Salomon team rider's have the better liners.

    How noticeable is the flex between the two? Very different? Not too noticeable, but in some terrain yes?

      Thanks Maksym, I run a FT intuition pro wrap liner in this boot. It is insanely good in there!

    This is a good review, minus the boot slapping :O) How would you compare this boot to the Salomon QST PRO 120 with a 100mm last? Would the heavier QST Pro 120 be suitable for touring over a 1 week trip in the Alps, or would it be to heavy. Thanks

    • @PatriotFootbeds
      @PatriotFootbeds  4 года назад

      Thanks Paul! :)
      Definitely weight is a consideration looking at the two. But both would do a weeks touring no worries.
      I am a bit bias, but I do love these SLabs way more. Really light, but still ski solid and and are way better walk mode for the climb.
      As an all rounder for mainly resort skiing, I would suggest QST pro, but if you like BC, then the Slab without question.

      Thank you for your quick reply! I will see if I can fit in the S/Lab with the 98mm last. I ski Lange RC130 LV for my resort boots. They needed a lot of grinding and punch work to adapt to my heel spurs, bunions... They fit perfectly now. Hopefully the heat moldable Salomons would fit me after a custom fit.

    • @PatriotFootbeds
      @PatriotFootbeds  4 года назад

      @@paulschectman6586 Definitely don't feel like a 98. More like a 100 to me! Also mold well. Still may need to grind for a heel spurs, but I reckon bunions would be no problems.

    What exactly does the oversized pivot do? There’s no cuff alignment anymore, right?

    • @PatriotFootbeds
      @PatriotFootbeds  5 лет назад +2

      Yeah unfortunately no cuff alignment with the oversized pivot. It really just aids in flex and power transmission of the boot.
