Black people, in ALL corners of the world(including our own) have been made to feel undesirable, less than, fetishized by every other race in the world(including, sometimes, our own), so for many people, it feels like you’re abandoning your own race to go for people who innately look down on you, and in that way, it feels to them like a betrayal. As a black woman who's been with and attracted to different races of people. Never have I ever felt like I betrayed my own race. Not once, not even a thought. I grew up in a household where that wasn't important. There was and is jokes, but that's all.

I was kind of floored some of these people were using the racial stereotypes on each other! I mean I get couples argue and hateful things can be said, but I'd think that certain things would be off limits no matter what. When I (a black women) was dating a white guy, I got so many looks and comments. There was such a desire to sew the seeds of negativity into our relationship. Friends and family wise. I just liked him and he liked me, it eventually fell apart for other reasons, but why should someone have so much say. This interrracial dating "issue" is such a non-issue; people focus on shit that really doesn't matter imo. For example, I've recently gotten into a relationship. I'm a black man, she's a white woman. And she's amazing. She's pretty much everything I need in a partner. I have Asperger's, so it's VERY hard for me to find someone that truly understands and appreciates me for being myself. Hell, my parents have had a tough time with doing that much until recently. And it's even harder for me to be myself around others, even family. But from the moment I met her, I was blown away. The more that I was myself, the more receptive she was to it. That has NEVER happened before. I've known her for a couple months, but our connection already feels over a year old. So I feel, pardon my French, really fucking lucky to have met her. But because she is white, I'm very apprehensive about introducing her to my family. It's nothing I was planning on doing right now just because our relationship is still very new, but I'm hoping this becomes a long-term thing. And when it does, that will be something I have to face. My sister got married last year to another woman, and there were pockets of our family that she didn't tell, and for good reason. So I'm now in the same situation. It seems really fucked up that I feel I have to hide/make ambiguous my relationship with someone, just because of the color of her skin. I'll either get shit for "betraying my race", or I'll be told that "I've made it" because I'm dating a white woman and she'll be fetishized. Yuck. It is a lose-lose situation. Two things I learned today. One, that Preach’s wife is white or close to it (Aba is petty as hell 🤣) and two: this is another example of how people still let others dictate what they should feel. These kids on the panel talking about they let down their race or don’t have a place to belong….hang with people who embrace love regardless of race and people who are good people. So very true. Also (at least in my experience) being attracted to a persons voice is crucial as well. If that's the person you're going to be listening to for the rest of your life, they should have the kind of voice you enjoy listening to. Sadly a lot of people are too insecure to look beyond physical appearance and materialistic things. You’ll get insecure guys that say they love a girl’s personality but only talk to her or put effort to her only cause she looks good or you’ll get some women who only want a guy cause of financial benefits or clout. I'm mixed race (Indian and black) and for a long time didn't like being mixed at all. I just wanted to belong to one race and felt like I belonged to both and at the same time also belonged to neither. Then I got married to an Indian man who loves me just the way I am. With him I don't have to be anything but me. He gets me.

Yeah man, that is tough sometimes. It especially doesn't help if you parents aren't on the best of terms with a lot of their family either, as it's easy to interpret things wrong or for them to use it against you. I do get the impression that my aunt is racist against me because of some stuff she said or implied in court that was very demonstrably untrue, but I don't know for sure if she said that because of my color or if she said that because she hates my dad and just wants to hurt him, it's probably both if I'm being honest with myself. But yeah, growing up in many ways being seen as a second class citizen by a lot of either side of my family wasn't a good experience.
My girlfriend has said the exact same thing. She’s told by her friends that she had a white pass and white privilege when her race has got nothing to do with the life she’s lived.
I only have that problem with one family member and his kids. They are white and very racist. But for the rest from both sides Im the favorite and spoiled one. And I know I have a privilege because I have a white last name, european and I have a caramel skin tone but I never take that for granted. And there was a period of time that I had a identity crisis for real. Now I love me for who I look and who I am as a person

As a Puerto Rican growing up in Kentucky in the 90’s and 2000’s there weren’t many other Hispanic kids I went to school with. It would have felt really weird to try to only date Hispanic guys just because of their ethnicity. I married someone I love and appreciate dearly who just happens to be black and non-Hispanic. I could never imagine limiting myself to certain races or ethnicities - I’m more attractive to someone’s character more than anything else. My parents are also interracial (white dad and brown/black mom) and Puerto Rico to this day has issues with colorism so I can only imagine any remarks that were made to them when they first started dating almost 40 years ago. I only know of the few things my mom has told me over the years and that was bad enough to hear.
Similar here. My mom was VERY fair skinned Italian and my bio-father was very dark skinned Puerto Rican. He didn't claim me because I wasn't dark enough. Throughout elementary I was told to "go back to Mexico" from my classmates. It wasn't until high school that an African American family moved to the district, and they had to leave because someone put a burning cross in their yard.

I'm Puerto Rican as well and haven't heard of anyone being racist there except for maybe the senior citizens. It all comes down to personal experience. I just don't think PR as a whole is racist or colorist. We know we come in all shades and we're proud of that.
I think being of another race became a "cool" thing in the early 2000s, probably because of pop culture (J Lo, Beyonce, Lucy Liu etc) and interracial dating was seen as kind of "hip". Then I think 2015 is when all this "cultural appropriation" thing started to go mainstream and how everything is overanalyzed. I personally think that "cultural appropriation" has worsen racial tensions and is targeted at really irrelevant "issues". It's not an issue to me to see a black girl or a white girl wear a Chinese inspired dress. I feel like most people's lives are too perfect and they just want something to complain and be upset about so they can post it on social media and feel like they're somehow important. But it's really just adding fuel to the fire.

People should be able to date who they wish without backlash, although, I’ll be honest and say, I rarely meet someone who dates interracially, regardless of race, who hasn’t got something negative to say about the women/men of their own racial group. There always seems to be a “reason” for why they’re dating interracially. “I find black women to be XYZ”, “I prefer white men because Asian men are XYZ.” Which then makes it harder for those of us who have dated interracially simply because we liked who we were with.
I don't talk down on my sistas but I will say black women make you jump through unnecessary hoops. The white chick responds back to my text and accepted my date. You are correct, that is the case most of the time. It is never as simple as "date who you want". However, if you are the one that is pushed aside by the opposite sex of your race in favor of others, you have no voice or platform period. Because if you do, you are then validating the reasons (from their perspective) why the opposite sex of your own race doesn't like/date you to begin with. Further, despite what so many women say, men cannot voice their concerns without being ridiculed, emasculated, or have it used against them and this topic falls into that category from the male perspective much more so than the women's.
You don't owe anything to your race so you can't betray them. The idea of race betrayal is weird given I thought we concluded that racial purity was an absurd and hateful idea.

I am an Afghan woman in a relationship with a Salvadorian man. Race has never been an issue. Never thought about our potential kids as "can you imagine our mixed babies?", if anything, it was more like "what names do you like? what if our child had your beautiful hair?" etc. What we would probably struggle with most is our families, especially mine.

I think a lot of people confuse race with culture. Both my parents are the same race..... but come from two different cultures . It takes hours of flight to get from my mom’s home country’s to my dad’s. Not all people of the same race grew up in the same environment. In fact, I’d argue that an American born black man has much more in common with an American bor white man than he would have with a freshly emigrated Senegalese. This interrracial dating "issue" is such a non-issue; people focus on shit that really doesn't matter imo. For example, I've recently gotten into a relationship. I'm a black man, she's a white woman. And she's amazing. She's pretty much everything I need in a partner. I have Asperger's, so it's VERY hard for me to find someone that truly understands and appreciates me for being myself. Hell, my parents have had a tough time with doing that much until recently. And it's even harder for me to be myself around others, even family. But from the moment I met her, I was blown away. The more that I was myself, the more receptive she was to it. That has NEVER happened before. I've known her for a couple months, but our connection already feels over a year old. So I feel, pardon my French, really fucking lucky to have met her. But because she is white, I'm very apprehensive about introducing her to my family. It's nothing I was planning on doing right now just because our relationship is still very new, but I'm hoping this becomes a long-term thing. And when it does, that will be something I have to face. My sister got married last year to another woman, and there were pockets of our family that she didn't tell, and for good reason. So I'm now in the same situation. It seems really fucked up that I feel I have to hide/make ambiguous my relationship with someone, just because of the color of her skin. I'll either get shit for "betraying my race", or I'll be told that "I've made it" because I'm dating a white woman and she'll be fetishized. Yuck. It is a lose-lose situation. But I'll tell them this; if I'm "betraying my race", then my race can kick rocks. Because I am myself well before I am some black male statistic.

Yeah man, that is tough sometimes. It especially doesn't help if you parents aren't on the best of terms with a lot of their family either, as it's easy to interpret things wrong or for them to use it against you. I do get the impression that my aunt is racist against me because of some stuff she said or implied in court that was very demonstrably untrue, but I don't know for sure if she said that because of my color or if she said that because she hates my dad and just wants to hurt him, it's probably both if I'm being honest with myself. But yeah, growing up in many ways being seen as a second class citizen by a lot of either side of my family wasn't a good experience.
My girlfriend has said the exact same thing. She’s told by her friends that she had a white pass and white privilege when her race has got nothing to do with the life she’s lived.

As a Puerto Rican growing up in Kentucky in the 90’s and 2000’s there weren’t many other Hispanic kids I went to school with. It would have felt really weird to try to only date Hispanic guys just because of their ethnicity. I married someone I love and appreciate dearly who just happens to be black and non-Hispanic. I could never imagine limiting myself to certain races or ethnicities - I’m more attractive to someone’s character more than anything else.
My parents are also interracial (white dad and brown/black mom) and Puerto Rico to this day has issues with colorism so I can only imagine any remarks that were made to them when they first started dating almost 40 years ago. I only know of the few things my mom has told me over the years and that was bad enough to hear.
Similar here. My mom was VERY fair skinned Italian and my bio-father was very dark skinned Puerto Rican. He didn't claim me because I wasn't dark enough. Throughout elementary I was told to "go back to Mexico" from my classmates. It wasn't until high school that an African American family moved to the district, and they had to leave because someone put a burning cross in their yard.

I'm Puerto Rican as well and haven't heard of anyone being racist there except for maybe the senior citizens. It all comes down to personal experience. I just don't think PR as a whole is racist or colorist. We know we come in all shades and we're proud of that.
I think being of another race became a "cool" thing in the early 2000s, probably because of pop culture (J Lo, Beyonce, Lucy Liu etc) and interracial dating was seen as kind of "hip". Then I think 2015 is when all this "cultural appropriation" thing started to go mainstream and how everything is overanalyzed. I personally think that "cultural appropriation" has worsen racial tensions and is targeted at really irrelevant "issues". It's not an issue to me to see a black girl or a white girl wear a Chinese inspired dress. I feel like most people's lives are too perfect and they just want something to complain and be upset about so they can post it on social media and feel like they're somehow important. But it's really just adding fuel to the fire.

People should be able to date who they wish without backlash, although, I’ll be honest and say, I rarely meet someone who dates interracially, regardless of race, who hasn’t got something negative to say about the women/men of their own racial group. There always seems to be a “reason” for why they’re dating interracially. “I find black women to be XYZ”, “I prefer white men because Asian men are XYZ.”
Which then makes it harder for those of us who have dated interracially simply because we liked who we were with.

You are correct, that is the case most of the time. It is never as simple as "date who you want". However, if you are the one that is pushed aside by the opposite sex of your race in favor of others, you have no voice or platform period. Because if you do, you are then validating the reasons (from their perspective) why the opposite sex of your own race doesn't like/date you to begin with. Further, despite what so many women say, men cannot voice their concerns without being ridiculed, emasculated, or have it used against them and this topic falls into that category from the male perspective much more so than the women's.
You don't owe anything to your race so you can't betray them. The idea of race betrayal is weird given I thought we concluded that racial purity was an absurd and hateful idea.

Never thought about our potential kids as "can you imagine our mixed babies?", if anything, it was more like "what names do you like? what if our child had your beautiful hair?" etc. What we would probably struggle with most is our families, especially mine.

The major advantage of loving someone of a different race is the exposure to new culture and the realization that we have a lot more common ground than people realize
I think a lot of people confuse race with culture. Both my parents are the same race..... but come from two different cultures . It takes hours of flight to get from my mom’s home country’s to my dad’s.
Not all people of the same race grew up in the same environment.
In fact, I’d argue that an American born black man has much more in common with an American bor white man than he would have with a freshly emigrated Senegalese.
So you could date within your race and be exposed to a whole different culture.
Or you could date another race but have the same overall culture.
Either way, all dating styles are valid and race should definitely not be as much of a concern as people make it out to be.

I'm a white girl dating a black man and my boyfriend actually introduced me to your channel. Now I pretty much watch all your videos except when it comes to trans topics (don't entirely agree but that's ok) and I just have to take notice at how well spoken this entire video was. I never really truly noticed the extent of the backlash that interracial couples deal with from the black community towards their own race (I thought it was mostly coming from white people), until I was in one. I understand where it comes from but if we don't stand up and say something, especially other black people to their own people, then this same mindset will continue to permeate throughout communities. Stand up for your relationship, it doesn't make you any less black and doesn't mean that you don't support your community. People are way too obsessed with race. Love is love and at the end of the day, to love someone for who they are is one of the greatest things in the world.
I miss the rhetoric of the 90s- where it was all about seeing what we have in common. These days it all feels backwards.
Was raised not to see race. Now I'm told it's the first and only thing that matters.

I'm Nigerian, we don't have white women but some of our women are extremely lightskinned. Many men marry them coz they light skinned. You'd even hear some say it out like that they love lightskinned girls and would marry one. I don't see this as a big deal. We all have preference and what we are attracted to. While some only love dark skin girls.
