I got the tip of my finger caught in a tool in wireline. You realize right after the first jerk your not moving your hand anywhere so there isn't much panic, you know you fucked up lol.
Toolman329 It doesn't just work that way man. You think you could be a better hero but truth is you couldn't. Not many people could have done better. The press could be designed to only rotate one way and beyond that, as someone already stated, it didn't complete it's cycle with his hand in the way so they had to take it apart to free him. It's not as simple as a spinning jenny. Hell, I can't rotate my engine by hand little alone a massive machine like that, especially in reverse if it cannot even go that direction.

What I am seeing, their job was to put an item in, remove hand, press w/ foot... over and over... I think something w/ coordination got confused, he accidentally pressed his foot and forgot to remove his hand
Yeah. That's why our boss let's us use the press when you have to press 2 buttons left and right with both hands at the same time so we accidently leave our fingers inside the pressing zone.
A safety cage with a spring load door and a welded bar running up inbetween the flywheel and shaft will stop clutch engagement of this machine. Only when the safety door is down bringing the bar out so the clutch can engage would of stop this from happening. Worked on these old machines years ago folding steel brackets for beams. Did it for 7 years not once did this happen to me or any of our staff.
@Toolman329 it not always the operators fault, you've never heard of malfunctions. the machine in this video didn't malfunction yes I know... but your comment isnt exactly true about EVERY machine accident in history
This is so bad!! Not only is everyone gathering around doing nothing to help but there's not auto release on the machine 😡 bless him he so calm seems like he turns around and says ouch my hand 😥😭
Saw this happen at a factory I worked at. Guy went under the guard to pop a piece off the mold before it cycled. The mold slammed on his hand. When they finally released the mold his hand looked like a pancake and basically fell apart. Surprisingly not a lot of blood.
I worked on one of those machines. However ours had a safety cage with a bar going up inbetween the flywheel and the shaft stopping the clutch engagement. Only when the safety cage door was down could the clutch engage. Very easy to make a safety cage for these machines.
*some companies in the united states. See a lot of dilapidated safety features like broken lasers and disengaged safety bars. Like the old gantries at a truss factory I work at (the big roller thing that squishes plates on). The only safety there is the ears and eyeballs in people's heads. They're SUPPOSED to have a functioning safety shut-off bar that stops the machine if obstructed, but nah.
Boss man that morning: "Okay! I'm gonna make this short. We are behind on a deadline, so therefore we have a lot of work to do, so we will have our power press safety meeting tomorrow instead. Now get back to work, and don't take a break till you meet your quota! Thank you."

Back to WORK !!!!!!! What the heck is everyone standing around for? Hey, call labor and have them send over another worker..... Damn that's six this week.
@Dingus E. Dow it's a safety cage around the sides and front of the press with a door on the front, the door won't open untill you get your foot of the peddle, the door opens, you put the material in the press, both hands out then foot on the peddle so the press comes down, if you have your hand still in the door the press won't work.
I knid of get the guy who just put his hand up and walked off at 30 seconds. He might not want to see blood tears, shock and somebody in a bad way, which i kind of get so he removed himself from the situation.
Typically, in non 3rd world countries, when using machinery that requires you to put your hands in the area of the press, the controls to activate the press are activated by HAND, not foot. There are usually 2 buttons, one on the left and one on the right up and out of the way that have to be pushed simultaneously to prevent such an accident.
If you happen to be using an old piece of junk like in this video. When your hand is in the press, make sure your foot is off the peddle. No exceptions.
Hang on John we'll have you out of there in 20 or 30 minutes, meanwhile gather up all the other workers for a safety meeting, Now John tell us again what happened ? Looks like a Chinese fire drill !! Shouldn't all of those machines have something on them like a safety release ? Damn !

This poor man was working in right way. He was triggering when picking next job from his left hand this way leaving his both hands out of danger. This sequence broke when in between he tried to wipe sweat dripping from head. This caused sequence to break. And he rammed the trigger and lost his fingers.

The other people look like they were being more intentional with their movements and more cautious and professional at their job. He must have been new to his work, or who knows what was making him so wiigly, but he was asking for trouble.
I've never seen a power press that didn't have a hole in he extended left hand end of the crankshaft. Just put a bar through it, and wind the crank backwards!
Things really seemed to get out of hand there for awhile. Happy they had so many handy employees that didn't mind giving a hand. Wasn't that Mr Handcock rushing to his aid? That machine looks dangerous. It should have a sign that says Hands off! Or you're hands may come off. I hope he doesn't loose his job now. If he does we will see him with hat in hand. He might be a handful if he decides to sue. I would help him, but I don't have a hand in the matter. With all the money he gets he can go buy himself a 10 hand horse to ride to work. I bet when he comes back his new handle will be Lefty. All the girls in the plant think he's so handsome. Ok everyone give the kid a hand, he did wonderful today. What a brave hand.

Poor guy! He's probably tired and didn't realize his hand was still there when he stomped on that machine
Exactly
There is a reason OSHA in the states requires expanded palm buttons for controls, or other means of tethering hands at a safe distance.
