I find my favourite thing about the year is a fresh start, clean space, new beginning but teaching routines and staying consistent until they get it is hard. You want them to just do it after only practicing it once or twice but it takes a long time, even for the older students.

I cried every day going home last week, it's my first year of teaching and I have a lot of mean attitudes from my children (stealing, hitting, talking back, rudeness, not doing what I'm asking them to do, hissing at me, running out into the hallways, etc.) To the point that I asked myself if I'm strong enough to do this... I wasn't expecting that. I have to believe I was put there for a reason and maybe It's my job to teach them kindness(which is one of my core values). Your videos are helping me, so I thank you for that. I hope I get through to them and God gives me the strength to be a great teacher and role model to them.

I can relate to all of this. Taught 18 years in kindergarten and the beginning of the year is truly an adventure trying to get those babies trained to be as independent as possible. What i love about the first month os school is amount of progress some kids make, especially the little ones who didn't have any form of school experience.

First, I love all your videos and that you are a verbal about God/prayer/and faith. I had a very rough year last year with PreK. We had several changes along with a new principal, which wasn’t great. You’re videos have helped me get back my confidence and have encouraged me. Thank you!
Next year, I will be teaching first grade again and I’m very excited!
I love that you have students practice routines/ procedures even if that means students miss a few minutes of recess. I do that as well and it does work! My love for the beginning of the year is the new of it all; new students, new supplies, new decorations and the organization. My strong dislike is testing as well. Teaching for teachers and learning for students would be more enjoyable without it. Keep up all the great work you do!! You’re awesome!

    I. Love. Your. Videos! I am teaching students too...at the baccalaureate level online(nursing). It's my first semester teaching and...Whew! Its week 5 for us too and there are still students who do not get it!
I have traditional & non traditional students so their learning styles are all different... But after the 15th announcement...I'm over it! So now we "point deducting". Lol.
Thank you for validating the IMPORTANCE of consistency. I needed to hear that more than you know!

Miss May, I just always feel better when I watch your videos. I love meeting my new kiddos, setting up my classroom, and slowly feeling more organized each year! I dislike adjusting to the new schedule and the testing.
This is my second year of teaching and our schedule has been ROUGH! We do F&P testing. I am really struggling with getting these done. Any tips?? There is just not enough time in the day!

    • @OneFABTeacher
      @OneFABTeacher  Год назад +1

Awwww, thank you!!!! I manage my testing by keeping a calendar with kiddos names on it. Since we have just about a month to get it done, I pace myself by testing so many kids per day. For example, I always test my kids on sight words first and I put 5 names per day on my calendar who I will test. That's done within a week. Then I test 2-3 kids per day on the other stuff and I can get it knocked out. The key is just pacing yourself and not sorry about getting so many done in a day or week. Let that pressure go! ((Hugs))

    Heyyy Ms. May!!!
It's great to see you again!
I 💯% agree with the loves and hates for BOY. I LOVE Meet the Teacher Day with families; but hate the redundant PD!
If I EVER got a chance to be a "looping" teacher (keep the same group of students for several grades, EX: K - 2nd), I would jump at that chance! It would most likely mean more PD, but it would lessen the stresses, reteaching, and relationship-building that needs to be redone every.single. school year 😥
Just a U.S. teacher, over here wishful thinking again! 😁
    Hugs and Blessings!🙏

Ms. May, God's choicest blessings on you! I took a sabbatical from the classroom and when I returned your videos, which I coined my PD were an incredible blessing!!!!! More than anything else was the practices of routines, procedures and expectations!!! Mannnnn by month 2 my firsties were on it, but we practiced continuously especially when expectations were not met and after all the breaks, Christmas, Easter and Spring etc.
Beginning of the school year love: seeing the excitement of my students when they come into my room, getting to know them and their families, can't really think of anything I don't like apart from the testing, I feel that everything else is a learning process.

    Love your channel ❤ !!
Im student teaching 1st grade this year, however I have 20+ yrs classroom experience.
I think the last 2yrs for many of these kiddos were MIA.. They missed school due to Covid.
Many have had absolutely no classroom etiquette, have not even clue. Others missed Kindergarten and have had no home structure. Meaning I pads, cell phones and laptops have been the babysitter.
Some of our babies are doing the best they can with the cards they've been dealt. Even though its wk 5.🛐✝️😰
Good job getting them on task !
