    Quite possibly the most exciting online chess final of all time (surpassing the Magnus-Firo Banter Blitz and Magnus-Hikaru OCF) and we are only half way through!
    All 4 games were extraordinary. The players are putting on a great show and overall this has been possibly the best advert for chess of any game considering how all out the organisers have gone in attracting new people to chess!

    Games number 1 and number 4 are simply brilliant. Both include such tremendous amounts of little ideas, which make the games extremely tricky and hard to navigate. And of course the annotation by Daniel is superb. I wonder if even Magnus and Wesley were aware of all the ideas represented on this video ;)

    • @PowerPlayChess

      I am sure they are aware of much more than this!

    WOWZA!!! That was certainly edge of your seat stuff. The first 2 games could merit full attention as endgame studies on their own.

      Technical question regarding the scoring as well Daniel, just out of complete curiosity. Since the players drew the first set, does that mean scores are still level in the match itself?

    Game 2 is what Carlsen does to his opponents. Moving subtle moves quickly, asking awkward questions on the board, and stressing out opponents under time pressure.
    So interesting to see how Carlsen handles it. He was doing well for a long time.

    • @RP-dy5mu
      @RP-dy5mu 3 года назад

      I think it's like this: Carlen's opponents only know how to play studied games. They are basically NPCs, while Carlsen just plays chess. I mean seriously, he always likes these awkward positions because it fucks everyone else off - and it fucks them off because it's not in their shitty chess engine that they're used to so they have nothing to lean on and and can't continue. Oopsie! Looks like you'll have to play the game like it was intended! Too bad so sad! You can't study against a lot of his moves. The only thing saving you is being actually good and having a feel for the game, instead of just being the best human robot and memorizing.

    The games have been really tense and I don't think MC is playing that well and his performance has been poor by his standard. Many thanks for your upload and great analysis.
    I have a question off topic.
    Suppose Fischer was around and his performance was equal to that of his capabilities in 1972. How do you think he would had performed against these 16 players in this tournament?

    • @PowerPlayChess
      @PowerPlayChess  3 года назад +1

      I find it impossible to make such a comparison. Opening theory has moved on; at the top level chess is so much more professional nowadays, players train harder, and are therefore stronger. At that time in the early 1970s, Fischer was the best by a long way, that's all we can say. But the game has moved on. There are many others out there who will give you a strong opinion on this question one way or another, but not me. My answer is: 'Dunno'. I don't wish to appear rude, but I find delving into such hypotheticals fruitless. But I invite others to jump in with an opinion!

      @@PowerPlayChess Many thanks for your frank opinion. I know it's really hypothetical kind of question but I think perhaps it will come to anybody interested in this lovely hugely complicated game!

      @429kostas 3 года назад +1

      If you could bring Fisher with a time machine today i believe that he would be a 2600 -2650 fide rating equivalent.But if you could give his genius a year to study chess with today's era capabilities (computers,books etc.) i think that he could be easily a top 10 player ,taking into account also his passion and absolute loyalty for the game...

    • @429kostas
      @429kostas 3 года назад

      That's of course an opinion ,can't prove anything like this scientifically

    Whoever win the candidates tournament will have earned it, for sure. But I think a world championship match series between these two would have been phenomenal, if the world champion chose to defend the title. But it wasn't meant to be.
