I am a student of Kyudokan in Argentina, apprentice to Diego Higa, son of Oscar Higa, grandmaster of the school. I am beyond honored to see this documentary and the characters I wspent my entire life hearing about. Rest in peace Pedro, whom I missed by only a few years to meet here. Rest In peace Benito, Yuchoku and Yintatsu. I will work hard to be better. I am honored to be a student and will forever carry on with the tradition and follow the neverending art of the path of the empty hand. I am proud to have been chosen to take the school to New Zealand and create a branch for that side of the world. Every day i hope that each Tsuki honors you, teachers now passed, every Seiza shows my utter respect and each Kata well performed and lesson well learned makes you proud. I have no Japanese blood to speak of. But there is no day that goes by that I don't feel like part of the family. 我が名誉を捧げます、師匠方
Dear Oleg Larinov: THANK YOU, ARIGATO, GRACIAS,спасибо for such a great video of Kyudokan Family! Thanks for sharing with all of us so many nice things of Sensei Minoru Higa, and the dedication to our teacher, Pedro Fattore. Thanks so much for all your work!! It's awesome!!!!!!!!! Greetings from Kyudokan Argentina!
Outstanding video! I appreciate seeing HIga Sensei in his dojo and Pedro Fattore (R.I.P.) doing kata. I also liked seeing my instructor, Seikichi Iha, Hanshi, 10th Dan Shidokan (USA), and Sensei Shigi Shiroma, Hanshi, 10th Dan Shidokan (Guam). Thank you!
Really well put together video. Thank you for your efforts. It is interesting, educational, thought provoking and nicely filmed. It's wonderful to see that good karate is alive & well on Okinawa. Thank you very much.
I only came upon your channel today....I am not disappointed...beautiful documentary both humble and moving....I subscribed to see what else you may have that I have missed...
My oh my! I have enjoyed this video very much and it's wonderfully produced. Thank you so much for allowing us into the world of the Kodukan Okinawa. Osu!
Karate had been watered down in the west, it had lost its effectiveness and became commercialised and a sport as the olympics is going to do. I'm glad to see Karate is still strong in Okinawa and Japan and I am blessed to be part of a strong dojo myself. OSU.
Well said, Brother! As a 66yr old Englishman who started training at 18 with 10yrs in Wing Chun, followed by 20yrs of WTF TKD and now a student of traditional Shotokan i agree and respect your comments here! OSU
Anyway, I'm a Kyokushin practitioner (currently 4th kyu) but have high respects and appreciation to all systems of Okinawan Karate including Kyudokan. I'll be visiting Okinawa this coming October and as a Karateka, I would like to explore the place of its birth and experience the culture and way of life in this fascinating island. And despite my Kyokushin background, I also would like to experience traditional Okinawan Karate and this seems to be among the best of foreigner friendly. Osu!
Wow!! I was speechless when I was watching this documentary.. very much inspiring.. Thank you so much for creating this documentary.. It lit the karate spirit in me. Greetings from Kyudokan Family, Mindanao Philippines.
Excellent work, thank you for producing this Oleg and Sergey. I will do my best to promote your work via the DOJO Bar too. Looking forward to the future episodes too.
Mi recuerdo y respetto para el sensei Fattore. Soy de Argentina, ex practicante de Itosu kai( Hamamoto) vi al sensi Fattore ganar el torneo de los campeones en el Luna Park.
This is the best one I´ve ever seen honestly; I´m looking forward for the next. This is a present for us karate lovers....thank you so much for such a great job
very nice... thank you so much for posting this video... I've said it before and I'll say it again - Karate is the solution for world peace. If everyone knows karate do/true martial arts, then everyone will respect each other. OSSU!!!
Excelente video. En su totalidad. Emocionante ver al querido maestro Pedro Fattore, y por sobretodo las bellas palabras que tuvo para con él. Felicitaciones. Desde Argentina, mis saludos. Osu
Hi Oleg...greetings from Chile, southamerica :o) First, thanls fot these AMAZING documentary that you published abou differents styles ok okinawa....great narrations, cultural contentes, musica, screenshots, everything! so again, thanks very much. Do you think that could be possible to translate in english all of your documentaries?? there are super interestings intervew of Masters like Higaona, Shimabukuro and others, but are un Russian! :o( thanks a lot and believe me, im watching all the documentaries like a TV show that i cannot miss. Best regards. Alfonso
what he says from like 10:30 to 11:10 is very true. in the internal martial arts (in karate as well I guess) they focus heavily on developing the energy of the dan tien and having the entire body move as a single unit with the dan tien as the axis point and allowing the energy (qi/ki) to flow better.
This is a great presentation. I desired to participate in Kyokushin, but may instead train in Shorin Ryu. After watching this, I feel as though it may not be as much a mere second option as I first felt. Thanks.
Oleg, your video opened up a mysterious aspect of Karate. Before this I never knew that pushing hands and other sensitivity training was part of Karate. I believed that those were aspects of Chinese systems such as Wing Chun, Tai Chi etc. But it looks like those are part of Okinawan martial arts as well. Thank you very much :)
I just started training in Shorin Ryu at a dojo with a shared lineage traced to Chibana sensei. This is one of the best videos I’ve seen on the topic of Karate, and particular Shorin Ryu. I appreciate the amount of research and care you put into this documentary.
A little sad to see the Master not train the way he was trained Fighting and using what they knew. Of course Kata is so important when studied correctly you find everything you need in them. I found it interesting that his school stressed fighting in the early days and changed with the times.
