I would disagree on the easy to clean. Easy to be presentable without a funky latent scent. Now we have linoleum on most disregarded surfaces unless they're tile. Much easier to disinfect with harsh chemicals with less residue evaporating into the environment. However. One should ask. Do we need such technology? Old floors have lasted hundreds of years without issue. Many of the new ones show their shoddy craft quite readily in passage of time.
It’s so interesting so see an alternative way to make cork stoppers! I’ve only ever seen the traditional method utilizing cork bark from the Cork Oak (Quercus suber) in Portugal and Spain.
I used to work at a winery that bottled and packaged 80-120k cases of wine per day. I had to go and inspect the corks and do these pull tests. We were looking for 30-50lb cork extraction values knowing that they would be slightly lower after sitting in the bottle a few days. The coating is very important because you can tell when its off/wrong when the bottles take 100-120lbs of force to pull them out. I do not trust synthetic corks because they can crease easier in the jaws allowing a channel for air to pass through when compared to these agglomerate corks or the solid natural ones.
I didn't know that there are different types of cork, so I learned a lot. It seems that about 70% of corks used for wine are natural corks, and it seems that natural corks are generally favored.
@@negidorbou I've seen synthetic corks more often in medium priced whiskies from less well known brands. From my experience they are often considerably harder to push back than wooden corks, probably made thicker to prevent that crease issue mentioned above.
I've always wondered how something like this is made. What I had in my head was completely wrong. it is cool but also very weird. Since other substances are used, it does not get it into the product ?? 🤔🤔

Low quality corks are made from composite pieces. Matches the low quality of Jpaanese wine. Good wine uses single piece cork or, these days, screw top bottles. Composite cork is terrible - prone to breaking, mold, and impurities.

Corc is such a nice material, we used to have a corc floor back in the 80's, was always warm to the touch, slightly soft and easy to clean.

Those areas in Europe also make corks this way. However they’re viewed as the lower quality and budget option compared to the whole bark version.

It has been so many years since I even had to uncork a bottle. Nowadays you have a box of wine and you jam a straw into it and you're ready to go.
