@@marcelrodriguez2067 yeah the heat is a real issue. I did mount mine in a canopy that was on the rim of the tank, but now rimless is the trend. You will never ever beat the color or growth though. I use kessil now and I miss my halides. The shimmer on kessil is too chaotic. Halide shimmer just looked better. Of course the bulbs needing to constantly be replaced and the heat present real challenges. I hope they improve LEDs someday to make them a serious alternative.
Kessils are probably the best but for the price they need to start including some sort of wifi or Bluetooth scheduling. My 100$ crock pot came with wifi there’s no reason a 400$ light shouldn’t.
I’ve been a Kessil fan since they came out and all my tanks,reef and two freshwater planted are on various models of kessils.I used to snorkel a lot and the first thing that gets your attention on shallow water is the shimmer and Kessil has duplicated that in their lights.
First... love the shimmer! It looks so much better... that said just remember that an LED running at 100% will have a much shorter life span than an LED running at 30%. This is due to the fact that the rate of defect formation (also known as electron traps) in a P-N junction (the light emitting boundary of different semiconductor materials in a diode) is proportional to the power per unit area traveling through the P-N junction. The rate of defect formation also accelerates with time for all LEDs as each defect causes more heat in the junction which in turn causes more defects. Running an LED at 30% of it's rated max current will significantly extend the life of that LED compared to running it at full power... So just use enough Kessil's to allow you to turn down the intensity just as you have done with the Radions. Of course that kind of defeats the benefit of the Kessil's small sleek size but that shimmer is definitely worth it! One other note is that the shimmer effect is due simply to the geometry of a "point source" light and the surface agitations acting as a random focusing lens for that point source of light. With the Radion light the larger area of the light source essentially acts as several lower intensity point sources all next to each which causes that shimmer effect to average out into uniform lighting.
Kessil! No comparison at all in my mind! You want the tank to look good, and nothing comes close to the shimmer of Kessil! The flat look of the radioed is a non starter for me. Kessil, all time favourite lights!
I bought the g4's when they first came out, $4000.00 then over $1000.00 for their mount! A few months later the perfect lighting system was deemed inefficient by its manufacturer and a upgrade was suggested in the form of a over priced diffuser. The g6 will be another iteration of a light system that needs an upgrade in a year lol. The Kessel that I bought 4 years ago is still current suggesting to me that the system was a good buy. Not to mention that the 96" mount that I bought for the radions can't adequately support the light without a very noticeable bow.
I’ve been running Kessil LEDs on my personal aquariums for over 7 years. I have no issues still to this day. I hope you continue loving them. The x models are pretty cool.
Tank looks great! Clean water quality and spacious setup. Both lights are great! Me personally, have Kessil (shimmer preference). Radion has powerful, full light. Visual performance ultimately up to the buyer. 😎😃
I don't do salt water tanks but I love watching others. I have a few freshwater tanks that are 23" deep and I was debating on a few different lights, twinstar, onf, and kessil. All the would do well for my purposes but I really like that shimmer from the kessil. Thank you for sharing this.
IMO I think kessils are an excellent choice and I like the way the tanks looks like. Although the radions are the Cadillac of lights I think I’d lean on kessil
I love my kessils. If you have a deep tank they make a narrow beam reflector that will increase par at the bottom of the tank. But it reduces the spread from 3x3 to 2x2 if I remember correctly. I have one on my tank and they work surprisingly well!
When I bought my first Kessils probably 8 years ago I was so stunned that since that day I consider kessil as the best light ever. Back then it was bigger, now it is really small. It powers most of my tanks. It brings life with the amazing shimmer and colours. My new build will have kessils because there is nothing better. I was here to see how other lights can play as a potential new light but no shimmer???:) thank you radion I stay with Kessil :)
Adding kessil to add more blue tuna shades would be thing to do. They would help to make more growth to SPS and other corals. You could also add a orphek bar to support more blue shades to assist coral growth, its cheaper than kessils. But your tank is too early or needs to be introduced with more corals for that demand. Kessils are way to go they add decisive shimmer but an extra blend to the tank lighting. I would suggest to add them with extensions facing front to back so they give more head on shimmer and also get those shadows under the corals and rocks covered. Great work. I have the T5 hybrid with 2 Kessil A360Xs. I went back and forth with trying to decide which one to get. I'm very happy with my kessils. Small footprint, powerful light. Plus the Echotech app is horrible! It hardly ever works so I know that would've been an issue. But I am happy and my corks are happy with my decision.

I went from Kessil to radion before I got out of the hobby 2 years ago. Not gonna lie I actually liked the Kessil more. Getting back in the hobby again and Kessil it is for me.
I ran halides 20 years ago. Kessil is the only light that can Mimic that crisp white/blue light of halides or recreate the shimmer. I'm upgrading my lights currently, going with 2 radion g6 xr30 and 2 kessil a360x.
Kessil has more shimmer, but also more shadow. If you are keeping a lot of SPS, then Kessil is a no no. I would love to use Radio for SPS tanks, but a Chinese Black box will also accomplish the same task as the Radion. If you are just keeping LPS and Soft coral, then Kessil is a better choice for your tank.

So glad I went AI Prime as I find the Shimmer of kessil too much, just cant look at it for long and the blandness of the new radion is also a bit much when compared side by side...the Prime visually sits nicely between the two in the goldilocks zone

The test is interesting but you are comparing a 900$ vs a 450$ fixture. To be more realistic you should use Kessil A500X and also a invest in a PAR meter that is very useful. Thanks for sharing you experience with a lot of details.
Are you running the Radions with the diffusers on them? That maybe why your not seeing as much shimmer from them. I'm with others, Kessils have too much shimmer for my taste.
The shimmer of a Kessil is impressive for sure. But, it's far too much for me. I had 360s and it was not enjoyable for me to look at even with t5s as the fill light. I've got g5's now with diffusers and I love the look of the tank now.

Radions all the way for sure, yes Kessil does have that small foot print but I think it you plan to use the hybrid with reef brite strips then maybe yes but I think Radions alone are good without anything else.
I have a Kessil AP9x over my 3' tank. No need for wifi dongles or anything. Can act as a hub for 360x, Refugium lights, etc also. I am 100% satisfied with this option. I am not a fan of the 360x itself, unfortunately.
i have 2 hydras 26s over my sticks dominated tank and its time to upgrade ,was thinking of that same light and i have a 36 tank i always love kessil look and shimmer how you think the shadowing would be more or less than the hydras?
I love the shimmer more but there is something to be said about the ultra still air like quality from the radions...also I think radions are just egotistical with their prices

Would the 500x make a wise choice because you can run it at 40-50% power and get great spread and enough par for a beautiful mixed reef?
I run the kessil T5 combo. The T5s softens the shimmer. I love that kessil shimmer!

You need to get the Kessil light reflector! Helps a lot with the shimmer on the walls. Also helps concentrate the light.

The trick is to do a kessil with fill light from primes or radions. You get the shimmer without the headaches.
You may have just changed my mind about radion vs kessil for my build. That shimmer!

You can tame the shimmer down by reducing surface movement, and/or adding T5's.
Kessil + T5 is for many the ultimate combo.
The shimmer in the tank ..yess....all that shimmer on the wall lol...hell no

Kessil helping an 8 bulb ati T5 is heaven, shimmer without The dizziness, maybe two kessil and the radion May look similar.

Kessil shimmer is way too overpowering. Halide is the best shimmer available and no LED has matched it.
