  • Let’s take a closer look at the Sea Cat 260 Hybrid Catamaran in this review from Florida Sportsman. The Sea Cat 260 Hybrid Bay offers a logical solution for backwater and coastal boating. Applying a catamarans smooth ride, handling and stability at rest to a boat designed for coastal backwaters along with some blue water- makes good sense and that’s exactly what the 260 does.
The ride on the Sea Cat was that of a performance boat capable of high speed that tamed the chop handily. The 260 can be rigged with as little as 280 HP and up to 600 which is precisely what our twin Suzuki’s 300 powered test boat provided. A top speed of 65 MPH seemed much faster and at a cruising speed of 38 MPH we were seeing 2 MPG.
Loads of storage is available below deck on the Sea Cat. Forward seats leading to the bow platform contain rod lockers below. Beneath the step up to the elevated casting deck is an insulated compartment. In the center hatch below the upper deck is another fishbox and a pair of compartments to port and starboard flank the forward casting deck platform. A pair of seven-foot-long insulated fish holds in the deck surround the console sides. Each of these compartments feature quality Gemlux hardware and gas shocks.
At the console, the helm beneath the hard top is protected by an acrylic deflector style wrapped windscreen. Matching 12-inch MFDs and all instrumentation are neatly arranged and all top quality Bocatech switches are used. A meticulously neat wiring scheme inside of the console is laid out in an easy to understand system and comes with a schematic explaining the function of each wire from switch to battery. Two Llebroc helm seats back up to a roomy tackle center rocket launcher in the cockpit. Matching 25-gallon pressurized wells are located in opposite corners and a flip up double wide seat is located under the wide transom casting deck.
Your inshore and coastal fishing potential on this boat will be greatly stretched due to the ability to cover more ground on foul weather days. The versatility of a bay boat combined with the performance of a catamaran will undoubtedly open up some doors for anglers.

    About the Show
What’s the Best Boat For You? Based on what you’re fishing for hosts, Rick Ryals, Lori Hargrave and George LaBonte will help you decide. During each season of FSBB the crew will review over 40 boats in several categories such as: center consoles, bay boats, flats boats, dual consoles, pontoon boats, catamarans, bass boats, aluminum boats and possibly kayaks. In addition to reviewing every type of boat imaginable the hosts will cover the latest in outboard technology and tips on how you can get the most out of your engine.
From early spring to late summer boat manufacturers will bring their boats to Stuart, Florida and the filming will be staged out of Pirates Cove Hotel and Marina. Deep See Visuals and their production team will shoot over 36-days on the water, in the water and from the sky, providing the viewer with unmatched insight to today’s newest and best boats on the market.
The premise of Best Boat isn’t to say which is the best boat, but to help you find the “best boat” for you. Based on what type of fishing you’ll be doing, where and with how many people the editors will cover key features in each boat helping you determine what’s important to you. Helping you determine what’s the best boat for me.
Florida Sportsman Best Boat is more than a TV show, each year the editors of Florida Sportsman magazine work with George to produce a 104 page magazine, Florida Sportsman Best Boat magazine, giving you an entire season of tests in a single publication. Plus, you get the most inclusive list of boats, including MSRP pricing, found anywhere. Anywhere, even online. The magazine is on-sale on newsstands each year from October thru December.
In addition to print and the Florida Sportsman Best Boat TV show there is an online feature every week called Boat Show Friday www.floridasportsman.com/boating where you get even more photos and detailed analysis from the editors on what they feel are the key features of each boat.

Jeez hurricane in April huh, looks like I live in another Florida than this one there in. I lived in Jupiter for some time and it seems like that boat couldn’t handle a rough inlet. Any boat can handle that light chop and look amazing. Please send us a real review in open water that that boat would be used in.
