But what does it spoil really? They won't be able to figure out any meaning. Until season 6. At which point they're probably already gonna have forgotten it. Idk, I just ask out of curiosity. I would probably never say such a thing even to some of my friends who would watch more casually. This is all just hypothetical.... What's even more interesting to me is what are these "Jacob's lists" they're talking about even specifically? I mean, we hear Ben mention Jacob's lists later, but what do they say? Or was it actually just some lists made by Ben this time and he just said they came from Jacob for his people to follow in line? Anyway.... I'm just saying, if there was some real list made by Jacob without Shephard on it, then what was it for?....
Well, in a way I'd say yes because 1st time viewers have no clue about it and it reveals something that's yet to happen. Even though it's not exactly the way the show will eventually reveal. But I get your point, cause that list we keep hearing about could easily be another of Ben's manipulations. I think that especially when it comes to things Ben say, people don't have a clue if it's trye or not. Thing is, even if that's the case, it would be better if eventually 1st time viewers figure it out by themselves.

Se for contar as vezes que o Charlie escapou de morrer desde o início, além das citadas pelas meninas nos comentários, ainda teve essas no episódio 1x18 - Numbers: quando o Charlie tentou atravessar a ponte após o Hurley e quase caiu e morreu, e em seguida quase foi atingido quando a Rousseau disparou vários tiros de rifle nos dois, e provavelmente só teria atingido o Charlie, pois no mesmo episódio foi mostrado que as pessoas ao redor do Hurley eram prejudicadas de alguma forma por causa da maré de azar.

Dentro do Avião, ao sair do banheiro, durante a turbulência, quase foi esmagado pelo carrinho das refeições; 2. Sobreviveu à queda do avião (assim como os demais sobreviventes, óbvio); 3. Na praia, quando a asa do avião quebrou (quase caindo sobre Hurley e Claire) e explodiu por causa do combustível, um pedaço grande da fuselagem caiu bem atrás dele; 4. Quase foi alcançado pelo “monstro”, quando corria da cabine do avião com Kate e Jack; 5. Pisou em uma colmeia gigante; 6. A parte de caverna que desabou, prendendo Jack, quase soterrou Charlie; 7. Ethan o deixou para morte, enforcado; 8. A queda da ponte pênsil;
Desmond's mind being in one place, while his body is in another is freaking fascinating. The poor guy. And these three are gon be really fun to watch with that.
Que saudade. Esse é de longe um dos melhores episodios. Muito a frente de seu tempo. Só agora em 2024 assistindo a segunda temporada de loki que essa nova geração tem algum pingo da criatividade deste roteiro.
Look at Gabi rocking the Ana Lucia’s style 🤣 This episode is great, and confusing, in a good way. A few step further in the rabbit hole. It also has a couple of point of contention for future developments (but not really, in hindsight, we'll talk about it in due time). The women in this show, one after the other, they are all wonderfully written. Juliet is good, but Penny is love incarnated. And we saw her only for 5 minutes… Des seems to be special in some way, surviving all of that with some sort of… mind time travel? Not only his life flashed before his eyes, but he was able to navigate it. Everyone’s dream, I guess. But is our destiny to make mistakes over and over again, even if gifted with a second chance? Of course it could have been only a “vision”, as Ju suggested. These days we heard about the toxic environment on the Lost set. What I got from those info is: entertainment industry is inherently toxic, because of production timelines, big money, big expectations. Fights happen everywhere, and being in the middle of the ocean for years surely didn’t help. That’s why it’s better to be involved with the product and not the “backstage”, from the outside we see a facade, not the real stuff.
Oh man... we had a recording session yesterday, and I thought of discussing that subject, but I find it annoying cause it drives new generations away from Lost. I doubt any show hasn't had stories like that.
@@reatores I don't believe it anyway. People love to get up in arms about things (and invent problems) these days so, as far as I'm concerned, it's nonsense. Any of us who have watched all the extras/bonus stuff on the DVDs can plainly see what a happy set it was (you can't fake that stuff if there's a genuinely toxic atmosphere).
Plus, I think today's mentality turned people into internet judges. Social media made people think there's only two kinds of people: good or bad. This reflects on politics, religion, everything. And it couldn't be more far from the truth. Or from what Lost shows us.
Um episódio excelente para teorizar e explodir cabeças, brotha! O que será que aconteceu com Desmond quando virou a chave de segurança? Aqui que LOST começou a bugar a cabeça do pessoal. Aqui LOST estabelece que também há (ou será que não?) a possibilidade de ficção científica, algo mencionado no episódio 13 da 2ª temporada, quando Hurley diz a Saiyd que a música "Moonlight Serenade" pode estar vindo de outro tempo, outra época… Será que é viagem no tempo? Um sonho? Alucinação? Múltiplas realidades? A resposta é... aguardem até o final da série, haha. CURIOSIDADES: - Quando Desmond conversa com a senhora sobre o homem com sapatos vermelhos, o homem é morto quando uma construção cai em cima dele. Isto é uma alusão ao Mágico de Oz, onde a protagonista da história, Dorothy, testemunha outra personagem (usando sapatos vermelhos) ser morto pela casa caindo em cima dela. Esta é uma das muitas similaridades de Mágico de Oz com LOST, incluindo: o nome Henry Gale (tio de Dorothy), chegando num lugar estranho devido a um ar quente em seu balão (como fez o "real" Henry Gale), e os "grupos de caça" na Ilha quase sempre composto por quatro pessoas, uma delas sendo mulher (como Dorothy e suas companhias). - A empresa que fez a tinta vermelha que Desmond estava usando para pintar as paredes do seu flat era chamada "FUTURE" tintas. - Desmond pega Charlie cantando o verso "Porque talvez, você vai ser quem vai me salvar". Esse episódio é bom demais, não tem como. Lembra daquela série que eu te falei no grupo do whats? Chamada From? Faltam 3 episódios pra finalizar a segunda temporada e em dezembro eles já iniciam a gravação da terceira temporada. É uma pegada bem Lost em alguns pontos. Se tiver procurando alguma coisa nova pra assistir, fica a dica.
Episódio sensacional de um personagem sensacional! Além de trabalhar muito bem um dos principais temas da série: destino x livre arbítrio, o episódio desenvolve mais a rica mitologia de LOST e apresenta um novo conceito de flashback.
- Beginning the episode verbally angry about Charlie and ending it very sad to learn he might die in the near future. As soon as Gabi said that in the beginning I cracked a good laugh. :) - I love that you told them about Wonderwall's lyrics that Charlie sang in the flashback, it's not something you can catch on the 1st watch. Thank you. Some comments below might be considered SPOILERS. I am not even sure if I'm using any information from future episodes writing some of the things below. I tried to explain what happened to Desmond in this episode and I tried my best to base my comments on solely this episode's events, but you might easily argue I subconsciously use future information. So if you want to keep 100% spoiler-free you should NOT READ below. LAST WARNING... POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD. - I think there's something always confused. When Desmond wakes up in the flashback, It's NOT like Desmond is on the Island turning the key and suddenly waking up in his room with full island Desmond consciousnes and memories. If that was the case he would keep remembering all Island stuff from that point on. No, he barely remembers any island stuff when he woke up by Penny he just felt like seeing some weird flashy stuff (that he can't comprehend) vividly during that unconscious time probably as a very lucid quick dream. That's why he was confused where he was when he wakes up BUT what he really actually remembers last was probably painting his house red. If he did remember his future fully, he would freak out 1000 times more and wouldn't continue his daily life as nothing happened. It's just the same Desmond who fell down painting his walls. The Island stuff that he briefly experienced as a flash after falling, later keeps coming back to him as the trigger events happen. It's not just a theory or my interpretation. It's solidly given to us that he doesn't remember anything except when some weird flashes make him remember bits and pieces. The reason he said the confusing line "let me go back, i'll do it right this time" is because the ISLAND DESMOND remembers these events happening, that Island Desmond now remembers and understands he got information from the future IN HIS PAST but failed to act on it in his past. But, he didn't fail just recently, he failed FAR BACK IN HIS LIFE. It feels like recently because the flash was very vivid and he REMEMBERED SOME STUFF THAT HE FORGOT. The flashback Desmond didn't exactly know he could really see the future UNTIL he saw the football game happening as he predicted and Jimmy Lennon entering the bar. The theory part I'll add is; after getting hit on the head with the cricket bat, he conveniently forgets about it, he at least forgets witnessing his predictions are true and forgets deciding to get Penny back because he apeerantly doesn't do it after waking up. That might be universe's course correcting by the way, the universe doesn't let him change the future drasticly by making him forget in this particular instance. That's also the thing, we should know Desmond has a life after the cricket bat incident. His life didn't stop there. So that Desmond didn't really wake up on the island after passing out. He woke up at the same bar or maybe in a hospital and went on his life apperantly without making up with Penny and joined the army as he decided before the bar event. And the Desmond woke up naked on the island is the Desmond turning the fail safe key whose life (especially those flashback events) flashed before his eyes after turning the key. He specifically just says his life flashed before his eyes. He does NOT say I went back in time and re-lived a few days of my life. So, he did not really RE-LIVE anything. He just vividly remembered. - He decided to give up Penny because of the picture because he doesn't have enough money even for a simple picture. Of course the ring lady planted some seeds in his head but he was not convinced by her. After Penny's fathers comments and the ring lady's seeds that he won't become someone worthy or do anything great about his life, not being able to pay the picture triggered the decision to let Penny go which always makes me cry because I did a similar thing to the only true love I had in my life.
Thank you, man! This cleared a whole lot in my mind! I'm definetely gonna talk about this with the crew. I have a question, though. The visions about Charlie's death started after he turned that key, right? But if so, then how come he had visions BEFORE that fail safe key event? Meaning, how come this episode's past Desmond had flashes of the island before he actually turned the fail safe key?
@@reatores It's debatable but electromagnetic effect of the island (or similar man-made energy) somehow releases your conscious from time which means it doesn't matter when you were subjected to the energy. Once your consciousness is somehow freed, your mind in any time can get information from any other time. In the end, whichever explanation you can make, we can be sure flashback Desmond's body was never exposed to that kind of energy yet but he's definitely getting information from the future and that proves my point. Information can travel to a time before the exposure. In this case, 2004 Desmond being exposed to high electromagnetic energy caused some memories go to 1995/96 Desmond's mind. Because it's not an energy calibrated to do specific work, the effects could be random but in my theory, because just as Desmond turned the key, he was fully concentrated on those times with Penny (where they were together but he lost her), the information went to those times. Remember he said "I love you Penny" just as he turned the key. In summary, for this sci-fi concept to work we have to accept that human consciousness exists outside of our physical body or brains in the first place. Normally even if it exists outisde, our consciousness is still strongly tied with our bodies and brains, so our experience is limited to our body's existance in time. However, when that specific electromagnetic energy hits our bodies, that strong tie is loosened and the part of consciousness that can exist out of our bodies can jump to or can leak information to any other time, even if it's a time before the electromagnetic exposure happens. That's my explanation. I hope it's helpful but you can ask more specific questions if you have any doubts in any part. Obviously, I'm not an expert and I can't claim to know how it exactly works but I'll try to bring my point of view. Maybe, there are things I'm missing but I'm pretty sure that 1995-1996 Desmond isn't transformed into full 2004 Desmond in this episode.

Esse episódio é perfeito e tem uma pegada Stephen King enorme, nãoé a toa que os criadores assumiram serem fãs dele. King simplesmente ama dar spoilers do tipo "alguém vai morrer" pra gente ficar ansioso durante a leitura toda. E eu to amando ver vcs surtando nas teorias kkkkkkkk Sobre a teoria do Hugo eu achei boa mas discordo. Tanto que o Desmond já conhece o Charlie há tempos. O episódio que Charlie foi enforcado nao era a hora dele ainda porque havia coisas que ele precisava fazer e a Ilha o testou após esse episódio com o lance das drogas. Charlie era pra ter morrido eletrocutado.

Quando o Desmond acorda caído ele começa a reviver tudo que ele já tinha vivido naquela época da vida dele, a Eloise no meio disso interfere para explicar que ele não pode mudar o destino, quando ela sai de cena ele continua a reviver tudo.
Cara, eu acho até que virar a chave ali da escotilha fez ele recuperar essas lembranças... mas tem também a ideia de que aquele Desmond do passado é apenas o Desmond do passado tendo flashes do futuro. E não o Desmond do futuro revivendo as coisas.
No escritório do sr. Widmore, além desse quadro pintado que aparece um buda, um urso polar e a palavra namastê, ainda podemos ver um outro quadro idêntico ao que foi pintado pelo Thomas ex namorado da Claire e pai do Aaron, como foi mostrado no episódio 1x10 - Raised by Another. Mas as cenas do flashback no escritório do Widmore se passaram no ano de 1996 e as do apartamento da Claire em 2004. Então acredito que não tenha ligação entre os personagens e que seja apenas pelo fato do diretor Jack Bender ter pintado os quadros e ter o hábito de mostrar suas artes na série.
Não sei se vocês perceberam pois quando passa a cena é bem rápido, mas na partida de futebol, naquelas placas publicitárias aparecem o nome de várias empresas já mostradas na série como: Oceanic Airlines, Hanso Foundation, Mrs. Cluck's, Apollo Candy entre outras. A Lata de tinta que o Desmond está pintando as paredes do apartamento tem o nome de "Future" e as cenas desse flashback se passam em 1996, "8" anos antes da queda do vôo 815.
Sobre o Charlie: se você for parar pra analisar, ele quase morre ainda dentro do avião (ruclips.net/video/J3xHMh9X2Ig/видео.html); daí depois no primeiro momento após a queda, por mto pouco ele não é atingido por um destroço do avião que vem voando na direção dele depois da turbina explodir (não consegui achar o minuto exato mas tá lá bem no começo do ep 1x01); e aí depois sim tem a tentativa do Ethan de matá-lo, e também na escotilha ele não morre esmagado por mto pouco de novo (mto similar à situação do avião)... Há ainda quem diga que o Charlie estava sentado naquela parte do avião que vai com Deus (atrás da Kate), mas eu não afirmo pq nunca entendi bem a geografia do avião, mas ainda tem isso. O universo está tentando corrigir faz tempo.

Tem também na escotilha com aquela confusão toda quando o Locke quebrou o computador, uma "caixa" metálica foi com tudo em direção a ele, mas ele conseguiu escapar e no mesmo episódio conseguiu escapar da explosão do Eko na porta da salinha da escotilha. E lá na primeira temporada teve a vez que ele pisou numa colmeia de abelhas. A morte tem trabalho com esse rapaz kkkk
Eu acho que ele deveria ter morrido na queda do avião e o universo tá tentando corrigir desde então. Pq no avião, a cadeira dele não era próxima aos outros sobreviventes, ele saiu dela correndo dos guardas pra ir a um dos banheiros esconder a heroína, ( o primeiro que ele achou) daí começou a turbulência e quando ele saiu se sentou na cadeira mais próxima vazia, assim ele escapou de morrer na queda.
Title in French: "Impression de déjà vu" (Impression of deja vu). It's clear. I was a little worried about this episode. The first viewers can be quite lost. Time travel, spiritual journey or future memories. It's everyone as they want. But the 3 held up well. I hadn't made the connection between the Oasis lyrics and the Charlie/Desmond relationship. But it must be said that this song is one of those that I hate the most in the world.😡 So, I try to avoid that moment in the series. 🤣
I'm not a fan of the song (or the band) either, but I like Charlie singing it in this episode, as it makes me feel emotional about his and Desmond's connection.
Hahahaha it's definetely an overplayed song. It doesn't help that Noel and Liam (or one of them) consider that one of the best songs ever. But regarding the scene, it's awesome that they used it. The lyrics matched the story so well.
Loved the reaction, guys ❤ SPOILER ALERT... The thing that bothers me is that we see in this episode that Des' 'marina' photo of him and Penny is the only copy. So how does Naomi show up with a copy of this exact same photo in her book? It's probably just an error, but it really bugs me because it makes no sense 😉 Edit: Don't get me wrong, I love this episode...it's just this photo thing which niggles me and I'd love for someone to come up with a plausible way for it to make sense (although I'm not sure that's possible).
I like when people point out these details that annoys them! And yours definetely is a fair one. We don't know what happened in Desmond's life between that photo and the island. Maybe somehow Widmore had access to where Desmond lived and made a copy of the photo. That's the only thing I can think of 😄

person who knows the future is NOT supposed to reveal it or change the actions of the universe....which is when the universe will course correct...when jack saved Charlie that was the right course of time as jack was supposed to save charlie...and now desmond is not supposed to save him as he knows the future and that is against the universe's timeline
well, it all goes to the question: what is time in Lost? Many scenarios are linked to different interpretations (like Back to the future, or Heroes...)
@@JacopoBasanisi I did not literally mean universe’s timeline :D it won’t make sense as time is relative to each cosmic object’s mass and gravity (as far as we understand on earth) But what I meant was the course of universe’s evolution if calibrated with time as unit. The show LOST conceptualizes that “Something decides what happens on earth based on a plan” if that doesn’t go as it should then it course corrects…where if something is meant to happen will happen one way or the other.
@@9godspeed Yeah, in this episode Lost seems to imply that "everything happens for a reason", with some "fate" or "destiny" that dictates the timeline. Romantic and terrifying at the same time, just as Locke's wake up call on the island. We don't know the full story yet, the explanation could be something else entirely. Either way, this episode show us that some way or another, it's still possible to go against fate...
This is ultimately a question we often make ourselves, right? I mean, we have our beliefs, we may be so sure about our faith, about what's going on with our lives, we may have a strong feeling and theories about our future and fate... but at the end of the day, we don't know. At least not 100% sure. Good thing Lost is a show and it has its limited universe rules, huh? Now, I guess at this point, all we have on that subject is that lady's words. If it really works like she said... it's kinda sad. Things will happen one way or another. You can take different routes, but the end result will be the same. All that's left is trying to be happy in your path. Who knows, maybe it's even your plan. Maybe you pre-wrote that path yourself.
Man, Desmond episodes are always an experience, weird one but amazing. I can't blame him for is stupid decision with Penny, I'm like him, always thinking girls I like deserves better, but as Penny said, all that matter was love. The duet Penny Desmond was the real way to show love in series and movies, high and low, weird decision, doubt, but always true love. The opposite of the triangle Jack Kate Sawyer, really annoying, bad written, too long. Monday it's Jack but Tuesdays it's Sawyer ... they really messed up Kate character, she deserved way better. Sorry Brotha Rodrigo, I'm late again 🤘

1. Dentro do Avião, ao sair do banheiro, durante a turbulência, quase foi esmagado pelo carrinho das refeições;
2. Sobreviveu à queda do avião (assim como os demais sobreviventes, óbvio);
3. Na praia, quando a asa do avião quebrou (quase caindo sobre Hurley e Claire) e explodiu por causa do combustível, um pedaço grande da fuselagem caiu bem atrás dele;
4. Quase foi alcançado pelo “monstro”, quando corria da cabine do avião com Kate e Jack;
5. Pisou em uma colmeia gigante;
6. A parte de caverna que desabou, prendendo Jack, quase soterrou Charlie;

Desmond's mind being in one place, while his body is in another is freaking fascinating. The poor guy. And these three are gon be really fun to watch with that.
That's one of the best plotlines in Lost! So interesting and mind-blowing!

This episode is great, and confusing, in a good way. A few step further in the rabbit hole. It also has a couple of point of contention for future developments (but not really, in hindsight, we'll talk about it in due time).
The women in this show, one after the other, they are all wonderfully written. Juliet is good, but Penny is love incarnated. And we saw her only for 5 minutes…
Des seems to be special in some way, surviving all of that with some sort of… mind time travel? Not only his life flashed before his eyes, but he was able to navigate it. Everyone’s dream, I guess. But is our destiny to make mistakes over and over again, even if gifted with a second chance?
Of course it could have been only a “vision”, as Ju suggested.
These days we heard about the toxic environment on the Lost set. What I got from those info is: entertainment industry is inherently toxic, because of production timelines, big money, big expectations. Fights happen everywhere, and being in the middle of the ocean for years surely didn’t help. That’s why it’s better to be involved with the product and not the “backstage”, from the outside we see a facade, not the real stuff.
Oh man... we had a recording session yesterday, and I thought of discussing that subject, but I find it annoying cause it drives new generations away from Lost. I doubt any show hasn't had stories like that.
@@reatores I don't believe it anyway. People love to get up in arms about things (and invent problems) these days so, as far as I'm concerned, it's nonsense.
Any of us who have watched all the extras/bonus stuff on the DVDs can plainly see what a happy set it was (you can't fake that stuff if there's a genuinely toxic atmosphere).
Plus, I think today's mentality turned people into internet judges. Social media made people think there's only two kinds of people: good or bad. This reflects on politics, religion, everything. And it couldn't be more far from the truth. Or from what Lost shows us.

Um episódio excelente para teorizar e explodir cabeças, brotha! O que será que aconteceu com Desmond quando virou a chave de segurança?
Aqui que LOST começou a bugar a cabeça do pessoal. Aqui LOST estabelece que também há (ou será que não?) a possibilidade de ficção científica, algo mencionado no episódio 13 da 2ª temporada, quando Hurley diz a Saiyd que a música "Moonlight Serenade" pode estar vindo de outro tempo, outra época… Será que é viagem no tempo? Um sonho? Alucinação? Múltiplas realidades? A resposta é... aguardem até o final da série, haha.
CURIOSIDADES:
- Quando Desmond conversa com a senhora sobre o homem com sapatos vermelhos, o homem é morto quando uma construção cai em cima dele. Isto é uma alusão ao Mágico de Oz, onde a protagonista da história, Dorothy, testemunha outra personagem (usando sapatos vermelhos) ser morto pela casa caindo em cima dela.
Esta é uma das muitas similaridades de Mágico de Oz com LOST, incluindo: o nome Henry Gale (tio de Dorothy), chegando num lugar estranho devido a um ar quente em seu balão (como fez o "real" Henry Gale), e os "grupos de caça" na Ilha quase sempre composto por quatro pessoas, uma delas sendo mulher (como Dorothy e suas companhias).
- A empresa que fez a tinta vermelha que Desmond estava usando para pintar as paredes do seu flat era chamada "FUTURE" tintas.
- Desmond pega Charlie cantando o verso "Porque talvez, você vai ser quem vai me salvar". Se o que a Sra. da joalheria diz é verdade, isto é ironia: ele nunca poderá salvar Charlie.
- O nome do meio de Charlie é Hieronymus. Este nome é uma variação de Geronimo (como em :Geronimo Jackson) ou Jerome. Se origina do grego arcaico, que quer dizer "nome sagrado".
- A partida de futebol mostrada é na realidade a final da Copa Espanhola de 1989 entre F.C. Barcelona e Real Madrid. O marcador do gol é o famoso jogador dinamarquês, Michael Laudrup.

Some comments below might be considered SPOILERS. I am not even sure if I'm using any information from future episodes writing some of the things below. I tried to explain what happened to Desmond in this episode and I tried my best to base my comments on solely this episode's events, but you might easily argue I subconsciously use future information. So if you want to keep 100% spoiler-free you should NOT READ below.
LAST WARNING... POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD.
- I think there's something always confused. When Desmond wakes up in the flashback, It's NOT like Desmond is on the Island turning the key and suddenly waking up in his room with full island Desmond consciousnes and memories. If that was the case he would keep remembering all Island stuff from that point on. No, he barely remembers any island stuff when he woke up by Penny he just felt like seeing some weird flashy stuff (that he can't comprehend) vividly during that unconscious time probably as a very lucid quick dream. That's why he was confused where he was when he wakes up BUT what he really actually remembers last was probably painting his house red. If he did remember his future fully, he would freak out 1000 times more and wouldn't continue his daily life as nothing happened. It's just the same Desmond who fell down painting his walls. The Island stuff that he briefly experienced as a flash after falling, later keeps coming back to him as the trigger events happen. It's not just a theory or my interpretation. It's solidly given to us that he doesn't remember anything except when some weird flashes make him remember bits and pieces. The reason he said the confusing line "let me go back, i'll do it right this time" is because the ISLAND DESMOND remembers these events happening, that Island Desmond now remembers and understands he got information from the future IN HIS PAST but failed to act on it in his past. But, he didn't fail just recently, he failed FAR BACK IN HIS LIFE. It feels like recently because the flash was very vivid and he REMEMBERED SOME STUFF THAT HE FORGOT. The flashback Desmond didn't exactly know he could really see the future UNTIL he saw the football game happening as he predicted and Jimmy Lennon entering the bar. The theory part I'll add is; after getting hit on the head with the cricket bat, he conveniently forgets about it, he at least forgets witnessing his predictions are true and forgets deciding to get Penny back because he apeerantly doesn't do it after waking up. That might be universe's course correcting by the way, the universe doesn't let him change the future drasticly by making him forget in this particular instance. That's also the thing, we should know Desmond has a life after the cricket bat incident. His life didn't stop there. So that Desmond didn't really wake up on the island after passing out. He woke up at the same bar or maybe in a hospital and went on his life apperantly without making up with Penny and joined the army as he decided before the bar event. And the Desmond woke up naked on the island is the Desmond turning the fail safe key whose life (especially those flashback events) flashed before his eyes after turning the key. He specifically just says his life flashed before his eyes. He does NOT say I went back in time and re-lived a few days of my life. So, he did not really RE-LIVE anything. He just vividly remembered.
- He decided to give up Penny because of the picture because he doesn't have enough money even for a simple picture. Of course the ring lady planted some seeds in his head but he was not convinced by her. After Penny's fathers comments and the ring lady's seeds that he won't become someone worthy or do anything great about his life, not being able to pay the picture triggered the decision to let Penny go which always makes me cry because I did a similar thing to the only true love I had in my life.
Thank you, man! This cleared a whole lot in my mind! I'm definetely gonna talk about this with the crew.
I have a question, though. The visions about Charlie's death started after he turned that key, right? But if so, then how come he had visions BEFORE that fail safe key event? Meaning, how come this episode's past Desmond had flashes of the island before he actually turned the fail safe key?
@@reatores It's debatable but electromagnetic effect of the island (or similar man-made energy) somehow releases your conscious from time which means it doesn't matter when you were subjected to the energy. Once your consciousness is somehow freed, your mind in any time can get information from any other time. In the end, whichever explanation you can make, we can be sure flashback Desmond's body was never exposed to that kind of energy yet but he's definitely getting information from the future and that proves my point. Information can travel to a time before the exposure. In this case, 2004 Desmond being exposed to high electromagnetic energy caused some memories go to 1995/96 Desmond's mind. Because it's not an energy calibrated to do specific work, the effects could be random but in my theory, because just as Desmond turned the key, he was fully concentrated on those times with Penny (where they were together but he lost her), the information went to those times. Remember he said "I love you Penny" just as he turned the key.
In summary, for this sci-fi concept to work we have to accept that human consciousness exists outside of our physical body or brains in the first place. Normally even if it exists outisde, our consciousness is still strongly tied with our bodies and brains, so our experience is limited to our body's existance in time. However, when that specific electromagnetic energy hits our bodies, that strong tie is loosened and the part of consciousness that can exist out of our bodies can jump to or can leak information to any other time, even if it's a time before the electromagnetic exposure happens. That's my explanation. I hope it's helpful but you can ask more specific questions if you have any doubts in any part. Obviously, I'm not an expert and I can't claim to know how it exactly works but I'll try to bring my point of view. Maybe, there are things I'm missing but I'm pretty sure that 1995-1996 Desmond isn't transformed into full 2004 Desmond in this episode.

Sobre a teoria do Hugo eu achei boa mas discordo. Tanto que o Desmond já conhece o Charlie há tempos. O episódio que Charlie foi enforcado nao era a hora dele ainda porque havia coisas que ele precisava fazer e a Ilha o testou após esse episódio com o lance das drogas. Charlie era pra ter morrido eletrocutado.

Quando o Desmond acorda caído ele começa a reviver tudo que ele já tinha vivido naquela época da vida dele, a Eloise no meio disso interfere para explicar que ele não pode mudar o destino, quando ela sai de cena ele continua a reviver tudo.
Cara, eu acho até que virar a chave ali da escotilha fez ele recuperar essas lembranças... mas tem também a ideia de que aquele Desmond do passado é apenas o Desmond do passado tendo flashes do futuro. E não o Desmond do futuro revivendo as coisas.

No escritório do sr. Widmore, além desse quadro pintado que aparece um buda, um urso polar e a palavra namastê, ainda podemos ver um outro quadro idêntico ao que foi pintado pelo Thomas ex namorado da Claire e pai do Aaron, como foi mostrado no episódio 1x10 - Raised by Another. Mas as cenas do flashback no escritório do Widmore se passaram no ano de 1996 e as do apartamento da Claire em 2004. Então acredito que não tenha ligação entre os personagens e que seja apenas pelo fato do diretor Jack Bender ter pintado os quadros e ter o hábito de mostrar suas artes na série.

Não sei se vocês perceberam pois quando passa a cena é bem rápido, mas na partida de futebol, naquelas placas publicitárias aparecem o nome de várias empresas já mostradas na série como: Oceanic Airlines, Hanso Foundation, Mrs. Cluck's, Apollo Candy entre outras. A Lata de tinta que o Desmond está pintando as paredes do apartamento tem o nome de "Future" e as cenas desse flashback se passam em 1996, "8" anos antes da queda do vôo 815.

Sobre o Charlie: se você for parar pra analisar, ele quase morre ainda dentro do avião (ruclips.net/video/J3xHMh9X2Ig/видео.html); daí depois no primeiro momento após a queda, por mto pouco ele não é atingido por um destroço do avião que vem voando na direção dele depois da turbina explodir (não consegui achar o minuto exato mas tá lá bem no começo do ep 1x01); e aí depois sim tem a tentativa do Ethan de matá-lo, e também na escotilha ele não morre esmagado por mto pouco de novo (mto similar à situação do avião)... Há ainda quem diga que o Charlie estava sentado naquela parte do avião que vai com Deus (atrás da Kate), mas eu não afirmo pq nunca entendi bem a geografia do avião, mas ainda tem isso. O universo está tentando corrigir faz tempo.

Tem também na escotilha com aquela confusão toda quando o Locke quebrou o computador, uma "caixa" metálica foi com tudo em direção a ele, mas ele conseguiu escapar e no mesmo episódio conseguiu escapar da explosão do Eko na porta da salinha da escotilha. E lá na primeira temporada teve a vez que ele pisou numa colmeia de abelhas. A morte tem trabalho com esse rapaz kkkk
Eu acho que ele deveria ter morrido na queda do avião e o universo tá tentando corrigir desde então. Pq no avião, a cadeira dele não era próxima aos outros sobreviventes, ele saiu dela correndo dos guardas pra ir a um dos banheiros esconder a heroína, ( o primeiro que ele achou) daí começou a turbulência e quando ele saiu se sentou na cadeira mais próxima vazia, assim ele escapou de morrer na queda.

I was a little worried about this episode. The first viewers can be quite lost. Time travel, spiritual journey or future memories. It's everyone as they want.
But the 3 held up well.
I hadn't made the connection between the Oasis lyrics and the Charlie/Desmond relationship. But it must be said that this song is one of those that I hate the most in the world.😡 So, I try to avoid that moment in the series. 🤣
I'm not a fan of the song (or the band) either, but I like Charlie singing it in this episode, as it makes me feel emotional about his and Desmond's connection.
Hahahaha it's definetely an overplayed song. It doesn't help that Noel and Liam (or one of them) consider that one of the best songs ever. But regarding the scene, it's awesome that they used it. The lyrics matched the story so well.

The thing that bothers me is that we see in this episode that Des' 'marina' photo of him and Penny is the only copy. So how does Naomi show up with a copy of this exact same photo in her book? It's probably just an error, but it really bugs me because it makes no sense 😉
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I love this episode...it's just this photo thing which niggles me and I'd love for someone to come up with a plausible way for it to make sense (although I'm not sure that's possible).
I like when people point out these details that annoys them! And yours definetely is a fair one. We don't know what happened in Desmond's life between that photo and the island. Maybe somehow Widmore had access to where Desmond lived and made a copy of the photo. That's the only thing I can think of 😄

person who knows the future is NOT supposed to reveal it or change the actions of the universe....which is when the universe will course correct...when jack saved Charlie that was the right course of time as jack was supposed to save charlie...and now desmond is not supposed to save him as he knows the future and that is against the universe's timeline
Also the show doesnt show us everything desmond remembers through flashes...they show us events related to other characters on the island...
well, it all goes to the question: what is time in Lost? Many scenarios are linked to different interpretations (like Back to the future, or Heroes...)
@@JacopoBasanisi I did not literally mean universe’s timeline :D it won’t make sense as time is relative to each cosmic object’s mass and gravity (as far as we understand on earth)
But what I meant was the course of universe’s evolution if calibrated with time as unit. The show LOST conceptualizes that “Something decides what happens on earth based on a plan” if that doesn’t go as it should then it course corrects…where if something is meant to happen will happen one way or the other.
@@9godspeed Yeah, in this episode Lost seems to imply that "everything happens for a reason", with some "fate" or "destiny" that dictates the timeline. Romantic and terrifying at the same time, just as Locke's wake up call on the island. We don't know the full story yet, the explanation could be something else entirely. Either way, this episode show us that some way or another, it's still possible to go against fate...
This is ultimately a question we often make ourselves, right? I mean, we have our beliefs, we may be so sure about our faith, about what's going on with our lives, we may have a strong feeling and theories about our future and fate... but at the end of the day, we don't know. At least not 100% sure.
Good thing Lost is a show and it has its limited universe rules, huh? Now, I guess at this point, all we have on that subject is that lady's words. If it really works like she said... it's kinda sad. Things will happen one way or another. You can take different routes, but the end result will be the same. All that's left is trying to be happy in your path. Who knows, maybe it's even your plan. Maybe you pre-wrote that path yourself.
Man, Desmond episodes are always an experience, weird one but amazing. I can't blame him for is stupid decision with Penny, I'm like him, always thinking girls I like deserves better, but as Penny said, all that matter was love.
The duet Penny Desmond was the real way to show love in series and movies, high and low, weird decision, doubt, but always true love. The opposite of the triangle Jack Kate Sawyer, really annoying, bad written, too long. Monday it's Jack but Tuesdays it's Sawyer ... they really messed up Kate character, she deserved way better.
