Watching this through the eyes of a North American I am so utterly jealous of your county’s restraint when it comes to leaving the old towns alone and not paving it over and tossing a Target over it. Just the age of the town and alleyways, the Abby etc is hard for me to wrap my mind around. It’s gorgeous!
The EFFORT going into these vlogs *chef's kiss*. So appreciated and very entertaining. Dracula and Frankenstein are my all time favs and I think a lot of people are put off by them because they think they know the general story and that the books will be 'old and stuffy'. Couldn't be further from the truth. So pleased you enjoyed!
I went to Whitby last week and it was one of the most beautiful and atmospheric places I’ve ever been! One of the best experiences I had while there was sitting in the graveyard of St Mary’s Church at 10.30 at night looking out to sea reading Dracula with my daughter, that will live with me forever, it was lovely! Can’t wait to return to Whitby again!
I don’t remember where I read it, but I saw someone compare Dracula to modern found-footage horror films, including the way the characters slavishly document everything, even in moments of peril. I think that’s what helps it to stand out in comparison to other epistolary style novels, at least the classic ones anyway.
This has honestly become my go to comfort vlog. I have at this point watched it about 6-7 times. Each time I see something I missed before. Thank you Gav for creating comfort content like this.
Wow, you really go all in for your videos and I am beyond impressed. How do you include SO much while also remaining fun and entertaining AND have cat content?! Iconic if you ask me
Rewatching this and ALL of your spooky vlogs and travel vlogs because they’re just so fun and relaxing ☕️☺️ you always bring the best vibes and laughs, your videos are my favourite!
Gavin I absolutely love how much time and effort your out into your vlogs and other videos. I love watching your videos because they’re always so funny and unique!
I loved watching this vlog, it was great watching my home town through the eyes of a first time visitor. I loved that you were reading Dracula during your trip too, i5s one of my favourites. Watching you go through dracula experience was so funny, i used to go through there when i was a kid but its changed quite a lot! You need to visit during one of the goth weekends and visit the whitby museum which has some cool bits and bobs.
Haven't watched the entire video yet, but there is this new "Dracula Daily" thing that I have been loving! It is a mailing list that sends out the letters from Dracula in "real-time" mails, it's a way to consume the book in small chunks and has sparked an entire sub-culture on social media. The order of the letters and journal entries is not the same as in the book, seeing as the book is not chronological - so it's an entirely new way to consume this "daunting classic"
What an amazing experience! I wish I could move to New Castle and just be your travel buddy! (She says hoping she isn't looking like a total creep...lol) I really want to read Dracula this year, especially now! :)
Love this so so so much! Exactly what I wanted; I even loved that you shared your dinner and food. This vlog is so perfect to start my autumn/spooky season! Appreciate you and the amazing content you always give us. The 4K made it feel like I was there with you!!!
I'm only 15 minutes into this video, and I swear no one else is going to care about this, but you had a jacket on at the train station and I was so overwhelmed with jealousy over that 😆 it's been like 80° F for the past week where I live and you were able to wear a jacket in August! Ugh I just hate summer so much lol.
Ugh I loved this vlog so much! Dracula is my favorite book and I'd love to go to Whitby someday and re read it there! Eveything looks so beautiful and atmospheric! The Dracula experience looks so up my alley too! So glad you had a great time and loved the book! 🧛♂️⚰️🦇🖤
What a great vlog! Dracula, Frankenstein, and Dorian Gray are on my potential TBR for next month and I think Dracula just moved to the top. I’m super excited now to read it!
I read Dracula last year in October and I kept saying the same thing - why did I wait so long to read this! It is Gothic at its finest (the GOAT) and I remember sitting in my room by a window reading it in the dark so scared because I thought Dracula would climb up the side of the house and attack me through the window. Great Vlog !!!! ❤❤❤
Peggy and Arthur😂👀 OMG I lost it when you described your dinner. Instead of asking waitress you watched the other patrons to see if they paid a bill....I feel this in my soul 🤣
As horrible as it is I’d love to be the one who is on “security” in the Dracula experience and had to watch the cctv of everyone going through the experience 😂
Ik this is an old vid but INSTANT LIKE!! I love dracula so much, i first read it fully last year via Dracula Daily where they send out each day's letters newsletter style, on the actual days they were written, every year! So much easier to digest! It really blew up on tumblr like a huge online bookclub a couple years ago and it was so fun but i only read about 3/4 of it the first year. So glad i finished it the next year!! (Theyre publishing a hardcopy of this arrangement too!!)
To be honest, I've watched only some of your videos so far and I haven't decided if I'm exactly vibing with your preferences in books just yet, but I have to give it to you... You make such lovely, vibrant, amusing to watch and energizing videos! I love your ideas for the things to do all around and bring your books and of course us with you! They are so brilliant and nice and cozy to watch, so inspiring and so much fun! Bravo for your unique ideas, for your time spent in crafting and materializing them, they are so thoughtful and so well done! Thank you, for doing this and sharing it with us! Keep up 😊🦇
Thank you Gavin for this video. I always look forward to your videos that bring me such happiness and joy during this dark season in my life. Thank you for spreading joy and love. Continue to make videos because we love you.
This was so much fun! Had to tell my husband that he would have to wait for the Friday Cozy Hang Out because I had some Gavin to watch. He totally understood 😂 Big hug to you and so glad you had an awesome experience and read 🩸
This was outstanding. Such an amazing effort. I read Dracula years ago but now I'm considering a re-read in October thanks to you! I'd love to see you do a similar thing with Greenway (Agatha Christie's house) which was where she set Dead Man's Folly. Just a thought.
Congrats on getting to Whitby! It happens to be the 125th anniversary of the novel's publication! Bram's descendent, Dacre Stoker, is doing some cool things to keep the legacy alive. Happy Halloween!
I have to say after reading Dracula myself; a lot of scenes are still fresh in my mind. Mainly the moments with Dr. Seward and Renfield. There were also a lot of other moments as well that sent chills down my spine. Which is a good thing! 😊❤📚
Loved this adventure! When Bram Stoker wrote Dracula he used a lot of the myths that existed in how to kill a vampire or tell if someone is a vampire, he based his vampire mainly in Elizabeth Bathory and a little on Vlad Tepes, basically his moniker Drakul, to name his character. Interesting note is that he, Mary Shelley, and Robert Louis Stevenson were all writing their famous gothic books around the same time. The movie you speak about with Winona Ryder, Gary Coleman, Cary Elwes, and more is the most accurate to the novel although not everything made it into the movie it is the most faithful to the book...lol...I have loved vampires since I was a toddler thanks to Sesame Street and Count Chocula cereal. I think what cemented my love was the 1930's movie starring Bela Lugosi, he's the one that gave way to how we say, "I want to suck your blood." My grandma happened to be watching it and I adored it and had to know everything about it, I was between 6-8 years old, also they had Count Duckula on Nickelodeon which of course just made me love the vampire more. I never laughed so hard, sorry, but you in the Dracula experience...lol... that's me in regular haunted houses and someone jumps out with a chainsaw, no chain of course, or if I enter and hear it right off the bat, freaks me out. So glad you loved the book! Also, agree that the Captain's notes that were on the boat Demeter were creepy, but that was an awesome part. If you want to read more about vampires or Dracula himself I highly recommend The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova, it's written like Dracula with journal entries and letters, it was an interesting read. Dracula the Un-dead I haven't read, but I believe it's supposed to be like a sequel to Dracula. It's written by two authors, Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt.
Wow thank you so much for all that info, Dracula and vampires have such a rich history, you’ve really made me want to consume more history on them. And thank you for watching, I’m glad you enjoyed the vlog 🥰
This has always been one of my favorite videos from you - but watching this after just finishing reading Dracula for the first time makes this so so special! Love this video - it's so charming
Watched again. I love the train ride footage. Whitby at night definitely gives off creepy vibes, and I like it. The Abbey was so amazing. The views of the town and the water are so lovely from atop the 199-ish steps. I love that you showed your hotel room and what you ate in the restaurant. And that Dracula experience was so fun…sorry you got chased by a demon. 😆 Thanks for the tour, Gavin, and for including us on your super fun adventure. I loved it! 😘 Can’t wait to see more of your spooky adventures, especially the night you stay in a haunted castle! Stay safe! P. S. Now I need that beautiful Puffin edition of Dracula. 😉
I've read Dracula a few times (and own a special edition copy that also contains Frankenstein). It's one of my favorite classic 19th century books. Part of my love of it comes from some of the movie adaptations. I have a reprint poster of the 1931 Universal version hanging in my bedroom, and I wrote a bio of Bela Lugosi (the actor who played Dracula in that version) for a term paper in college.
YES YES YES YES!! I read Dracula earlier this year and have been wanting to reread it since I finished it. I think now is the time. What an amazing experience you had 🦇
1. This vlog is so freaking good. Thank you for letting us live vicariously through you. 2. You are looking so amazing. And you look happier in the last few videos than I have seen you be since i started following you 2 years ago.
I absolutely loved this, maybe even more than the night sleeper train vlog, if that's possible! Oh my god am I ready for Autumn and darker nights, big winter coats, hot water bottles, cosy candles and great thriller books now! This is definitely a vlog I will watch a few times!!!
I also love when books mention either where I live or close to it. I was just reading The one by John Marrs and one of the characters grew up in a town that's the town next to me, and that's the closest any book has gotten yet. The two big cities (Nottingham and Derby) near me have been mentioned a few times in books, but that was the first time it was closer.
I read Dracula for the first time this year, 2024, and I absolutely loved it! The atmosphere Bram Stoker creates was just so perfectly dark. I also waited way to long to read it. I was always intimidated by the length and was worried I wouldn't like it! LOL
Hello from a fellow Geordie! You’ve been keeping me company through some very long work days, and I just want to thank you for it. Whitby is one of my all time favourite places, so happy to see you’ve been now too!
The first time I read Dracula was on a trip through Romania (mainly Brasov). And yes, I just booked that holiday for a good excuse to read this book. One of the best trips I went on though!!!!
This is my home town so I extra loved this. I’m glad you had such a good time! I’ve shamefully never read Dracula 🙈 I’ve no excuse when I live here. I always assumed I wouldn’t like it but you’ve really sold it to me so you’ve convinced me to finally give it a go. Loved the vlog.
Aww wonderful vlog, Gav. I love local, solo, day trips. I can’t believe how long that Abbey has lasted; major parts are still standing despite wind & sea erosion. And finally, yay for 5 stars!
The second October I spent in the southern Indiana/ Louisville Kentucky area I got to go to actors theater at see Dracula on stage which was a very fun evening I even have a copy of the playbook from it
Insane. I love it. In Wildwood NJ a long time they had a place called Castle Dracula and it was a haunted house and boat ride attraction. Ii went the there for 20 years until it burned down in 2004 I think. Awesome place
This was so amazing! Gavin you are so fun and make me laugh. I absolutely can't stand loud hotel neighbors at night 😒 Also thank you for letting us all virtually go on this trip with you, such a blast 😀 now I need to read Deacula ASAP.
Dracula is a classic I want to read eventually and never have been to Whitby but it looks beautiful! Loved your dedication and this was an amazing vlog! 💕
Found this really informative, funny and honest. Checked it out before I made my own pilgrimage to Whitby! Thank you so much for making this - and damn that guy in room 4 😂😂😂
Thank-you so much for this vlog...what a way to read Dracula for the first time!! As someone who read it in an Australian summer in my early 20s I am a tiny bit jealous

Love that Dracula was published 4 years before the discovery of blood types. Sometimes I wonder how the story would have changed
Dracula was really so well-written and ahead of it's time. The book still holds with how creepy it is and it's definitely deserves to be a classic.
I don’t remember where I read it, but I saw someone compare Dracula to modern found-footage horror films, including the way the characters slavishly document everything, even in moments of peril. I think that’s what helps it to stand out in comparison to other epistolary style novels, at least the classic ones anyway.
Ahh that makes sense!
This has honestly become my go to comfort vlog. I have at this point watched it about 6-7 times. Each time I see something I missed before. Thank you Gav for creating comfort content like this.
Gavin exploring Whitby at night is like something out of a Nancy Drew novel and I love it.
Wow, you really go all in for your videos and I am beyond impressed. How do you include SO much while also remaining fun and entertaining AND have cat content?! Iconic if you ask me

‘Peggy and Arthur’ are great Senior Citizen names. Also, it sounds like the title of a niche BBC Drama.
Everyone watching: Hey Gavin, how much coffee do you drink daily?
Gavin: YES!
Always ❤️

Let’s just that Yorkshire did play a major role in Gothic Fiction whether it’s Brontë Sisters or Bram Stoker.
Yorkshire is awesome
Love this so so so much! Exactly what I wanted; I even loved that you shared your dinner and food. This vlog is so perfect to start my autumn/spooky season! Appreciate you and the amazing content you always give us. The 4K made it feel like I was there with you!!!
Aw yay so happy you enjoyed Kat 🥰
SPEAKING MY LANGUAGE WITH THIS VAMPY VLOG 🤌🤌🤌

What a great video! Horror classics rock!
I'm 9 months late to the party but I LOVE this vlog! it brought me so much joy 🥰
What a great vlog! Dracula, Frankenstein, and Dorian Gray are on my potential TBR for next month and I think Dracula just moved to the top. I’m super excited now to read it!
Yay hope you enjoy Dracula when you get to it!
Yes to reading them all !!!! They are all so good ! You won’t regret it. Lol
I read Dracula last year in October and I kept saying the same thing - why did I wait so long to read this! Peggy and Arthur😂👀 OMG I lost it when you described your dinner. Instead of asking waitress you watched the other patrons to see if they paid a bill....I feel this in my soul 🤣
Haha I didn’t want to look stupid 😂
Lol it’s something I would do too.
As horrible as it is I’d love to be the one who is on “security” in the Dracula experience and had to watch the cctv of everyone going through the experience 😂

wine + snacks + Gavin's vlog = perfect friday night
I love your vlogs so much, they are so entertaining!
Oh my gosh I’m jealous of the wine and snacks haha
Thank you Gavin for this video. I always look forward to your videos that bring me such happiness and joy during this dark season in my life. Thank you for spreading joy and love. Continue to make videos because we love you.
I'm already reading too many things but now I want to read Dracula too, damn it Gavin. 😂
This was so much fun! Had to tell my husband that he would have to wait for the Friday Cozy Hang Out because I had some Gavin to watch. He totally understood 😂 Big hug to you and so glad you had an awesome experience and read 🩸
Aww haha thank you so much for putting me first 😉 😂
Honestly Gav, your shopping bag ripping in the middle of the road sounds like the start of a cute RomCom... meet cute!
This was outstanding. Such an amazing effort. I read Dracula years ago but now I'm considering a re-read in October thanks to you!
I'd love to see you do a similar thing with Greenway (Agatha Christie's house) which was where she set Dead Man's Folly. Just a thought.
You are not alone, Gavin: I like when a book when a book mentions where I’m from.
Congrats on getting to Whitby! It happens to be the 125th anniversary of the novel's publication! Bram's descendent, Dacre Stoker, is doing some cool things to keep the legacy alive. Happy Halloween!
"The view from this spot inspired Bram Stoker..."
KEEP MUNCHING CHIPS 😂
😂 Bram was very hungry apparently
OMG that beach is just like the picture books of England I had as a child with the little changing cabins. I Love it so much. 💕💕💕
Yet again Gavin you knocked it out of the park with this vlog .
Thank you so much 😭
Fun Fact: There’s a place in Whitby called ‘Arguments Yard’.
I have to say after reading Dracula myself; a lot of scenes are still fresh in my mind. Mainly the moments with Dr. Seward and Renfield. There were also a lot of other moments as well that sent chills down my spine. Which is a good thing! 😊❤📚
I adore you!! Thank you for the flashing lights warning. You are making the experience of reading Dracula for the first time so much better.

What a fabulously informative comment
This was freakin amazing Gavin! You are so dedicated and I’m here for it! I’m here for everything!!
Aw thanks Liz 🥰
It’s like everyone I know on Booktube is chaotic and does not pack meticulously in advance lol
This whole vlog was such a vibe. Definitely a blessing to have such an immersive experience while reading Dracula.
Ok, here goes Gavin again, just creating the content of my dreams. Love this so much!
Oh you 🥰
There’s so much work and effort in this video!! IT DESERVES WAAAAAAAY MORE VIEWS!! I’m glad I randomly found your channel!!
This vlog is everything! You’re making me want to bump this book up on my TBR now. 👏🏻😍
Do it Liv!!
This has always been one of my favorite videos from you - but watching this after just finishing reading Dracula for the first time makes this so so special! Love this video - it's so charming
Hi Gavin, this vlog has really gotten me into the spooky vibe season! Loved it!
Yay that was my goal 🙌🏼

I'm rewatching while in Whitby so I know when the jumoscare is in the Dracula museum! I love this vlog so so much

Awwww your giggles in the Dracula 🧛♂️ experience
i’ve been reading and LOVING Dracula on the Dracula Daily substack
YES YES YES YES!! I read Dracula earlier this year and have been wanting to reread it since I finished it. I think now is the time. What an amazing experience you had 🦇
1. This vlog is so freaking good. Thank you for letting us live vicariously through you.
2. You are looking so amazing. And you look happier in the last few videos than I have seen you be since i started following you 2 years ago.
If anyone ever needed a vlog to get them in the cozy autumn mood, this is it! 🍂👻
I absolutely loved this, maybe even more than the night sleeper train vlog, if that's possible! Oh my god am I ready for Autumn and darker nights, big winter coats, hot water bottles, cosy candles and great thriller books now! This is definitely a vlog I will watch a few times!!!
And no ghosties followed you back to the hotel from the graveyard this time!
Omg I loved this!! The Chambord, the jump scares at the Dracula experience!! I've been to Whitby ages ago and loved it. Siân
If you want scary vampires, you should watch 30 Days of Night. The vampires were so freaky in it. (It’s also a comic, but I haven’t read it)
I also love when books mention either where I live or close to it. I was just reading The one by John Marrs and one of the characters grew up in a town that's the town next to me, and that's the closest any book has gotten yet. Just chiming in a year later to say: Pamela is a NIGHTMARE, I hated that trash 😂 but I love Dracula so much! So glad you gave it a shot
I’m only a year late to this vlog but now I’m genuinely so excited for Dracula!! 🧛♀️
I am so happy you loved Dracula
Dorian Gray is another fantastic one!
Thank you so much for bringing us along on this adventure. I am going to read Dracula now. Whitby looks like a very cool place to explore.
Aww wonderful vlog, Gav.
I love local, solo, day trips.
I can’t believe how long that Abbey has lasted; major parts are still standing despite wind & sea erosion. And finally, yay for 5 stars!
The history of Whitby Abbey is fascinating - I wish I mentioned more about it in this vlog!
@@GavinReadsItAll I paused and read all of the signs within the video. Thank you, Gav.
The second October I spent in the southern Indiana/ Louisville Kentucky area I got to go to actors theater at see Dracula on stage which was a very fun evening I even have a copy of the playbook from it
That was awesome! LOL at the Dracula Experience... you rock!
Loved coming along on another adventure with you. I was surprised when I finally read Dracula how familiar it felt.
Insane.
I am in love with the Whitby Abbey shirt! I noticed the shirts in the b-roll, so great.
I just ordered this book I love vampires so can’t wait to read it! The castle part was so beautiful so jealous!😍 also when the guy scared you😂😂😂
My favorite part of the whole book is the Demeter!
Okay but that cover of Dracula is pretttttty
The Netflix Dracula three part series was really good too! But yes the 90s Dracula is also a classic at this point.
Found this really informative, funny and honest. Checked it out before I made my own pilgrimage to Whitby! Thank you so much for making this - and damn that guy in room 4 😂😂😂
I'm planning on going to Whitby specifically to buy a Dracula book. This is brilliant inspiration!
Ahh that’s so special! I wish I bought a copy while I was there, I was so close!
Not me being absolutely terrified as Gavin going through the Dracula attraction.
The old timey Dungeon keys look awesome!
I listen to a full cast audiobook of Dracula from Audible every October. It includes Tim Curry and Alan Cumming!
Oooo I need to try that out!!
Thank-you so much for this vlog...what a way to read Dracula for the first time!! As someone who read it in an Australian summer in my early 20s I am a tiny bit jealous
Whitby Abbey looks sooo good😍 I haven't read Dracula yet but I'll try to read it this fall🍁
A Cocktail and a Whole Bottle of Prosecco? Life is indeed fabulous!
