  • This is Battambang Railway station. This is as far west as you can go as of the 11th of May 2022. Looks like they are going to use the Rail car because of rolling stock shortages. There is talk of the line being open soon through to Poipet, but we will have to see.
Today, Marady is catching the train from Battambang through to Phnom Penh. It leaves at 3PM. The cost for the trip was 32000 riel, or $8 US. They expect the train to get into Phnom Penh between 10 and 11 PM. She will send me messages on the way as I will be going to pick her up. The train going the other way leaves Phnom Penh at 7AM and gets to Battambang at 2PM.
The view from the train is much better than you would get from a bus or taxi. As an added bonus, you are able to get up and walk around the train. There is a toilet, but this is a little primitive but perfectly functional and western. Currently, there is no food being sold on the trains, But, I am guessing this will change in the future too. I think I would grab water and a pate baguette to go on the train so you can have something to eat on the train. There is food and drink sold at the stations, the stops being Pursat and Kampong Chhnang at preset. You will have to be quick though.
When you arrive, you will find Phnom Penh station mostly deserted, with not much in the way of shops open. But if you walk out the front of the train station, across the road is a total service station. You should be able to get a drink or something to eat here. Remember to have data, and grab or pass app on your cell phone to get a tuk tuk to your home or hotel.

Looks more comfy than an 8 hour
    bus ride

Yeah, but rail cars are a little noisy because of the engine being below you. Think of the unusual bus stops you would miss out on.

@@findingourserenity1753 ooh so would you recommend the train or the bus from Battambang to Phnom Penh?

@@audyyy The road from Battambang to Phnom Penh (National road 5) is being upgraded at the moment. Road works everywhere! It is not even a contest now. I would go with the train.
