In this episode we are going to continue cabinet prep including using bondo to fill in holes and defects on an arcade cabinet and its edges. Using dowel rounds to plug holes. Sanding and arcade cabinet with a palm sander and router. And, we'll see if there is a hidden bar level in Tapper. Can we unlock the gay bar level in Tapper?

Good call on filling in those edges with bondo. You need to have all chewed up edges sharp or you will have trouble trimming the vinyl once it's applied.

Great Video, Im starting to see games in the wild that are original cabinets with just a PI and accepting quarters. I think as technology gets better you will see more of this.

you already have a Milwaukee battery for your screw driver. get a Milwaukee rotary tool. it comes with several cut-off discs.i have one. its like a dremel. in fact all dremel accessories and some attachments work with it. you could do many tasks and make what you do easier and faster.

When I plug in my sander I always make sure it’s in the on position just like John 54:50. This project should look good when done.

I Struggled to get them carriage bolts out, aswell!
You would be more efficient with a random orbit sander. What you have is a high quality Makita FINISH SANDER. The random orbit with a 60g paper would almost demolish the cab with a little pressure. My Stargate with plywood didn't stand a chance with CitriStrip and 100g paper on original paint and the random orbit Porter Cable with very little pressure! That includes the Bondo "phase" as well. Well worth the money for a random orbit sander. I have a different version I use on auto paint for defect removal before final buffing and it returns the same results!
I added that before I saw you use the orbital on the cab. That is a more powerful tool and should be used before the finish sander. It will not rotate without pressure or with too much pressure but will cut quicker than the vibrating "finish sander".

My vote is for rattle-canning the t-molding edges. shouldn't take too long. As for the gay bar, it's likely a hoax, there's nothing on the cutting room floor about it and I'm not even sure tapper would support that many colors on screen at once let alone that vibrant of colors.

I have a question John. I'm a big Mortal Kombat fan and I have 2 dedicated MK2 machines in good shape and they play great. So my question is I want to keep one for myself and make the other look mint condition like you're doing to yours. What is the highest I could sell it for you think? I already have people interested 👍🏻
1:20:22 If it was real it should be really easy to find in the ROMset, since it occurs at preset times. Specifically there'd have to to track the movement of the can, hooks into the input, and some kind of variable to indicate success that would need to be called at the time a level is drawn.
Though, it might help explain the existence of Root Beer Tapper, I'd probably call BS though, just because it's inconceivable such a thing wouldn't have been found during MAME development unless it's a unique, non-emulated ROMset, which is not wholly unknown.

Bubble bobble original romset with romstar license, and the japanese version with Taito corporation license, are a bit hard to find for the nostalgic gameplay

Nice to see the MKII coming along. You made some real progress today too. Next video should be where things start to come together.
Then of course there's that monitor to revisit one more time.
One more thing, since you've got a PCB, any thought on maybe burning a set of Ultimate MKII Tournament Edition roms and giving that a go? Check out YourMKArcadeSource on youtube, he's got quite a few videos on those rom hacks. Some of them are really good and make the game so much better than it was. At the very least, might update the board to the latest revision if t isn't there already.

Hello john, love your videos! i own a mortal kombat 2 arcade just like the one u are restoring. the screen on mine is a little flimsy and although it still plays fine it just doesnt look normal. any idea what can be wrong with it? Im new to the arcade hobby any help will be great:)

Took a look at the sprites & titles in the mame dumps nothing. I suppose it could be a custom rom hack.
I've tried the Tapper thing on MAME but it does not work. I even saved it at the point right before the can picking round so it was the same movements. It's probably a hoax.

Automotive bondo vs actual wood bondo? I’m in the process of doing the same thing here, read that you shouldn’t use automotive bondo on these.
Is there a way to cut a channel for t molding without any special or expensive tools

Would gorilla glue be ok to apply onto t- molding? I have to replace some and don't have a hot glue gun.
If the slot is a bit too big, use tape on the spine of the molding to make it wider. Works well.
Sean Cooper thanks I'll definitely try that. Would rather hammer it in, than glue it in. I'll need to get all the dried glue out of slot first.

Gay bar tapper is probably a hoax. The flag was around in the 80s, but it wasn't as well recognized as the pink triangle.

I call BS on the supposed "secret level" in tapper, not because of how hard it is or the source of the "information" but based on the fact that the supposed image of the level is exactly the same as level 1 except they have edited what is shown on the left wall and the bottom half of the Barkeep sprite! You would think that if a programmer went to the trouble of actually legitimately putting something like that into the game they would have made the level look noticeably different like when comparing each of the locations in the game...
Gotta wear a face mask next time mate, the wood particles together with that stripper should have been rough,

Might find aluminium oxide paper might be better for your sander more effective and last longer. they are white in colour
