It calls fish from afar and they strike with authority I'm sold!
Thanks for watching!!! It does get them to hit crazy hard!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors I got a 7 and 12 inch crappy to eat my whopper plopper at night working it like a popper.
I got a 7.10 pound lrg mouth and a 5.2 on the 75 munky butt color this morning from the bank on my way to work this morning
Nice way to start the day!
I am a forty plus, father of three, who only gets to fish two or three times a year. I get up early and/or go out just before sunset; and every time to through the .90 Plopper, I catch a solid 2-3lbs bass. No special tech, just the right bait at the time;and consistent solid results. I love this bait!
That's awesome! Thanks for sharing that and watching! It's one of the most fun lures to throw for sure.
My first day slinging the Whopper P,lopper was also a success a couple of years ago. It is the real deal when conditions are right!
Thanks for watching and stopping by!
On a lake not known for its smallmouth but for it's Largemouth I caught 20 smallmouth on the Whopper Plopper last summer. Of course we caught Largemouth too and some big ones.
YES! The Whopper Plopper is worth ALL of the hype Brotha! It is simple and easy to use and it's effectiveness is excellent!
It is a very efficient lure, minimal effort maximum results! Made by one of my Favorite Hall of Fame Fisherman Larry Dahlberg.
Short story: Me and a couple of my buddies were fishing at Elephant Butte Lake in New Mexico and they rarely fished before so I carefully selected a lure for them that would be easy to use and produce maximum fish effectiveness and efficiency.
I was fishing over on one side of the rocks about a mile from them (we scattered to find the hot Bite) and I get a call from them saying they are catching them over where they are at; I thought they were playing a joke on me. They come get me from where I was and we drove back over to where they were fishing and I look in the cooler and there were 7 Stripped Bass (about a foot long a piece) in the cooler! All thanks to the Whopper Plopper! They Loved the lure too! That lure catches Fish! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU to Explore their different and unique characters colors and purchase a Whopper Plopper!
ccol009 Thanks for watching! It definitely ended up in my arsenal after this morning of fishing.
What color?
@@dirtywrx8478 They we’re using the “Crystal Minnow” I personally love the “Munky Butt,” “Perch,” “Bluegill,” and “Silent Frog Version.” And I love using the “Powder” color at night.
Use them in the 90 size, 110 size and / or the 130 size depending on the size fish you want to catch.
@@dirtywrx8478 also a lot of fishermen swear by the “Bone” color and the “Loon.” Bone, Loon, and Munky Butt are some popular color choices amongst anglers.
Whopper Plopper is my favorite lure...bass can't resist it.
It’s definitely a solid topwater! Thanks for watching!
I like to work the whopper plopper in many different ways, my two favorites, steady slow retrieve and just popping it as if it were a popper, I’ve caught some good fish on that lure
I try to do both but I seem to get more on a steady retrieve surprisingly! I’ve heard a lot of people saying fishing it like a popper is effective though! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Water and Ice Outdoors yeah, I like to cast mine around the slop and use the steady retrieve while if I’m throwing near the shoreline, school of baitfish, or sewer pipes, I like to pop it to get the bass’ attention, I loved the video, keep em coming! Tight lines!
Crazy as it may sound, the 2 largest smallies I landed on the white river in central IN I had just left the loon whopper plopper 90 series float on the current!! No retrieve at all. 19 inchers, the both of ‘em.
@@Raellives that is impressive!
One of my Asian Friends always catches Bass and Northern Pike back Home, and I always asked him WITH EVERY FISH HE CAUGHT! "What did you catch em on?"
Guess what he said?
"-WHOPPER PLOPPER BRO!"
He caught his 1st Musky on a Whopper Plopper too (36in)! He loves Musky Fishing now!
Def worth the hype they catch some solid sizes on em and the blow ups tend to be pretty vicious at times my display pic was off the plopper it was a 5 bass morning between me and my boy and it was his first day using it
BassToTheFuture Tv Oh yeah, they hit them hard! Thanks for watching!
These are a blast to use like a popper, making quick, sudden jerks and pausing. It's a good way to tear up some aggressive largemouth and smallmouth on the rivers, especially if they won't take a solid retrieve, but are actively feeding on baitfish on the surface! Such a fun lure to use. I'm looking forward to trying the 75.
YES! I've done really well with that retrieve also! Thanks for watching!
Always use a swivel with the WP. It will save you from line twist when you hook weeds.
chris leggett Good advice! Thanks for watching!
That one blow up you caught on film was sweet! Heck of a nice fish too! Great job on the video. Your going to have people running to the store for whopper ploppers. Tight lines from R & J Bass Fishing
R & J BASS FISHING CHANNEL Thanks for watching! Appreciate you stopping by!
I'm a believer! Just got my first Whopper Plopper from Amazon Yesterday. Phantom Shad size 130. Got three more on order, sizes 110, 90 and 75. Can't wait to try them out. Great video! Liked and sub'd.
They really have a time and place! And the blowups are like no other topwater strike! Thanks so much for watching and subbing!
I caught 26 bass within 1hr 45mins.... majority of the bass wasn't big but hell it was definitely fun haha
MegaRadric It is definitely fun when they are hitting them! Thanks for watching!
So are u a believer now?
@@Mega07 Ha. I guess you would say that. It's still not my go to but it earned a spot in my arsenal.
I'm looking forward to giving the whopper plopper a try... I've had success with buzzbaits and spooks for top water action but only under the right conditions (spring, summer, early fall, some clouds or low light, calm or light chop, not a cold front)
I love spooks, not a huge fan of buzzbaits but know they work. Ploppers are great and get HUGE blowups, but they are just like other topwater lures where you’ll have days where they get bit and days where they don’t. Good luck and enjoy those massive blowups! Thanks for watching!
My wife and I just picked up two whopper poppers on Sunday. Just watched the whole video bro that was awesome! Thanks for sharing! Brother!
Thanks for watching! That was a good morning of fishing!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors Yes it was bruv!
Well done... You've got me pining for open water action now.
You and me both! Thanks for watching!
I picked 1 up and cant wait to use it. Have the 90s series, white shad with a green stripe . C'mon spring
Good luck! I love the bone color but that’s for up here in MN! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video man, I recently did one on the Plopper too and had some success. Topwater fishing is awesome!
Thanks for watching and the sub!
I just started using the ol Plopper last year on smallies and man do they destroy it. Sweet video dude!
Yeah they earned a spot on my boat after this day! They get crushed more violently than any other topwater I've thrown. Might not be the best topwater but definitely gets the craziest strikes.
My worst day was 5 my best day was 17 small and largemouth. So ya for me they've lived up to the hype. Had them for about a year now.
Nice! Thanks for watching!
If you haven't used it yet, the Rapala Skitter V is my definite go-to top water walking bait! I'll take that over the whopper plopper. Great video man!
I'll have to check it out. Thanks for stopping by Tim!
This is an interesting topic- I’ve never used one myself simply because of how expensive they are. Thanks for the insight!
DC Bronzies Thanks for watching! Obviously only one day, but it definitely made me think I should be throwing them.
Coming in late on this one
Answer: Yes. Simply yes. The Black Lune is a great bass slayer.
😂 Thanks for watching! That black loon and the bone are my favorite!
Wish.com has the whopper plopper and it's the same quality but only 2-5bucks. Downfall is they take 3 weeks or so to arrive from China. But I've bought three to try and I've been highly impressed..
chrismartin3391 Be careful with that site. I’ve ordered 3 things from them. 2 never showed up and I never got refunded.
@@WaterandIceOutdoors thanks.. I dont spend any money on there hardly. Just two and three bucks here and there. I'm to nervous to order something from that far away lol..
The cheap one was the first one i bought on ebay got a 5lb bass on the 3rd cast now a got 6 different WP in my tackle box👍
Yeah I've gotten some big ones off the spook, & have been using it for years, but I must say this whopper plopper looks pretty legit.
It has its moments for sure. They hit them crazy hard too which is always fun. Thanks for watching!
Great catch, looks like it worked! 🎣👍😎 ~Maverick
Thanks for watching Mav! It definitely made me want to use it more!
I am a believer!! straight out of the package 1st time use 1st cast caught a good size bass.
Very nice! Thanks for watching!
Absolutely worth it!
Michael Pazdan Thanks for watching! Earned a spot in my arsenal after that morning.
Nice job you got some good bass on it. I noticed with throwing baits like whopper plopper for musky fish like a steady retrieve and as soon as weed gets on bait it stops spinning
Yeah it is a weed magnet, really my only complaint with it. Thanks for watching Hans!
Put a barrel swivel on to the split ring, use heavy braid for added stiffness to easily shake off the weeds
Good tips. I had it on 40 lb braid. Thanks for watching!
I caught 10 bass and copperhead snake with my whopper plopper today, my favorite lures
I bet getting the copperhead off was interesting! Thanks for watching!
Nice work Pete!
Panzer Medical Thanks Panzer! Thanks for coming in the livestream the other day also!
You bet!
It's not the lure it's the fisherman,it dont matter what lure you use as long as you're using the lure for the situation. All lures are good you just got to stick with it.
Terrance Melvin Yes you’re right about that! Thanks for watching!
No hype.....You're Ploppin' some Nice Whoppas!!
Thanks for watching Wes! I see what you did there!
I tried the smaller one at potomac and you're dead right about using bigger top water baits!
Yeah I don't even bother with the 90 size. Thanks for watching!
Water and Ice Outdoors top water blow ups are always good! 👊🏻
You got that right!
Yes
Thanks for watching!
I take that plopper and cast it out and let sit for a second then pop it like a frog before reeling.. I get alot of extra strikes that way! Fish on!
Good tip! I've recently realized that you can "walk the dog" a bit with them too which has gotten some really nice strikes as well.
Its absolutely the real deal ! Get 3 or 4 different colors and ur set.
Hey man, just subscribed! I’m from Lukes stream.
Taliesin Angling THANK YOU! Really appreciate the sub! Hope you enjoy this channel as well!
Good morning, Pete!
What kind of rod you working? Lngth, Stngth, Action?
7'2 Heavy with a fast action. That's what I prefer. Thanks for watching!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors Thank you. What type of line and test? I am thinking Monofilament 10#
@@WaterandIceOutdoors And I am thinking of a Shimano Curado DC with 8.5:1 ratio. Thoughts?
I too thought the spook was the deal...until I picked up a plopper. They are the real deal.
My only concern has been when I miss a fish on it I cannot get the fish to follow up on anything.
Anybody else with the same results?
Jim K I still think the spook is the real deal. The problem is doesn’t cover water very fast. So know I use the plopper to find the fish, then switch to the spook once I know where they are. Works great! Thanks for watching!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors Thanks for the video. I agree, always have them both tied on
My go to move when the fish misses is to give it a couple good rips to imitate an injury from the initial strike...its worked more than a few times and I've only been on whopper ploppers the last couple months
I always give a few hard pops after a miss, good pause and a nice hard pop gets the attention and gives the time needed to catch up and strike clean....( you want to be as predictable as possible)
I was a believer 10 minutes after mine hit the water the first time...giving me anxiety watching you walk barefoot around the other one you've got rigged laying on the deck lol.
Logan Pralle Ha! Yeah might not be the best idea but I hate having shoes on in the boat. But one of these days I’ll probably stick myself. Thanks for watching!
Could someone please tell me what is the best season to use the whopper plopper in? Thank you
I have had the best results with them in Spring and Fall. However those are your traditional topwater seasons. Calm days, early mornings and in the evenings are when I do the best. Hope that helps!
Thank you very much for your help. I am new to fishing and greatly appreciate it
I've never caught anything on one. I want to like them, have had 0 luck.
Yeah I've found it can be pretty situational. The fish definitely have to be in the right mood.
Same here, I’m still hopeful but nothing to write home about yet.
@@brians2318 Best time to fish with it is in cloudy conditions, when you hear and see a blowups, early morning and late evening.I didn't have faith in them but once you get that first fish you're going to love it
shawn pimpin I went fishing yesterday evening during cloud cover and caught one on my first cast. I’m starting to like this bait the more I use it. Thank you for the tip.
@@brians2318 Nice!!!
Lol well I've caught hugh bass here in South GEORGIA Home of the world record Bass . Now I've fished this plug several times and not caught a fish . But I'm gonna try different colors and sizes , lol
George Kirkland Yeah it is definitely situational. Had good days and bad days depending on the conditions with it. Thanks for watching!
Highly recommend the 90 size loon and 75 size munky butt and perch
I wonder why the Whopper Plopper is such a big deal, as the original lure with the whole rotating tail is 80 years old, called the Mud Puppy. They have been Muskie baits since the inception of the lure. The Whopper Plopper concept was known to many people, it’s not a new lure. It’s also made in sizes that are copied by River to Sea.
I wonder why the lures come sized in metric, could it be that the lure are made in China and like so much of all the big-name fishing tackle, or OEM tackle, it’s made in China.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing, as your cell phones probably made in China, your television is made in China, too.
Charles Adams Hate to break it to you but just about everything is made in China these days. And yes, the whopper plopper is not a new idea. Just a popular one now. Thanks for watching!
I've caught my bigger fish on th 75 .. Not to say th 110 or 130 can't snag em but I was surprised..
Interesting. I don't use the small sizes very often but they certainly catch fish. Thanks for watching!
The 75 has a nicer sound with a more pronounced belly
Pulled a whopper Plopper from a tree that another fisherman lost. Had no idea what it was until I threw it the 1st time and saw / heard the distinct action that I’ve seen on so many utube videos. Hooked into a nice bass on the 5th cast. SOLD! See it on my channel...thanks for sharing!
Billy's Carp Fishing Thats a great find! Saved you some money! Thanks for watching!
Can i throw this anytime in any conditions? And what depth are you fishing?
I like to throw it in the mornings or evenings. Pretty standard topwater times. I will fish it in water as shallow as a foot or as deep as 20 ft. The closer the weeds are to the surface of the water the better. It will call fish up from deeper water than you’d expect though! Thanks for watching! Hope that helps!
Thank you! Ive never really fished topwater before
No prob! Make sure you try some Heddon Spooks also! They are another great topwater lure. Topwater is a really fun way to fish!
Just curious on the time of year and the water temperature.
This video was posted in August 2018. I don't remember the exact temp but most likely was warmer water for here in MN around low to mid 80s. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
What’s the best time to fish whopper plopper
Usually in the morning or evening when the sun is coming up or going down with calm water but it can work when there's a little chop on the water also. Thanks for watching!
Fish that Whopper like you would a Spook ....Start ...stop slow retrieve even stop it.....when it stops it sinks the tail and wobbles alittle.....the bass will hammer it....fast retrieve also works ....great top water lure. I use 90 size Perch color and the big smallmouth bass kill it! I have 3or 4 go to bass lures this is one of them.
Definitely! A spook is my favorite topwater of all time! Thanks for watching!
Do you have a video for fishing with a spook ?
Thanks
As of right now I don't, but now that the topwater bite has turned on I am hoping to get one made as Spooks are my favorite topwater lure! Thanks for watching and I hope you stick around for that video!
Sure i would like to see that, never caught one on a spook but do have some. The w plopper has worked for me a couple times. I usually use frogs and buzz baits too but want to catch one on spook.
Thanks
Richard Keller The key with the spooks is to walk them over weed beds or weedlines. They are so loud they will call bass up from weeds even in 10-15 ft of water. Running them across points can be very productive as well
Awesome tips thanks !
By far one of my biggest go to topwaters now as I have video proof that these things are Fish Magnets! #WhopperPlopperLife
Yeah, it was only one trip, but it definitely has them in my head to throw during topwater windows. Thanks for watching!
Check out my Plopper videos if you have any hesitation on throwing them!
It's actually hard for me not to throw them now lol
Whopper plopped is awesome I have 130 110 and a 90
Thanks for watching!
Might have to pick some up!
They are really fun to throw and get some HUGE strikes! Sorry I missed your comment! Thank you so much for watching!
I did pick one up and have a lot of fun it but just love throwing frogs!
Jeff Krake Nothing wrong with that!
Nice job man,👊👍
Thanks for watching Weekend Warrior!
They work well for me!
Thanks for watching!
7.8 lbs is my best with the WP
Roland Martin said that the whopper plopper draws the big bites, but for some reason I become the fucking dinkmaster when I break mine out. I guess I’ll need to upsize!
What I’ve noticed is it has to be the right situations. They either want it and it will be like the bass want to absolutely murder it, or nothing will even look at it.
Why do fish short strike lure and not attack it like a musky or pickeral dose
Robert Robertson I personally haven’t had that problem with it. However it might be because it’s a fast moving lure and it’s more of a reaction strike than an “I’m going to eat this” strike. An idea for you if they are short striking it is to downsizing to a smaller plopper or smaller profile topwater lure.
Did you change the O rings like everyone else did?
I have not changed the O rings. I’ve seen people change them out but I haven’t seen any negatives when I use it so I haven’t changed them.
@@WaterandIceOutdoors awesome thank you. For your insight. I just received my whopper plopper and cant wait to use them. Great job and keep up the great work. God bless you
Ive had bluegill attack a 90 before
Cory Anthony 😂 Thats awesome! Thanks for watching!
Enjoyed the video, sub'd. I picked up a whopper plopper this spring. My first cast on it, caught one just shy of 2 lbs. Second cast, caught 2.6 lb'r. I was sold at that point haha. Would love to see a spook video though.
Xx..Irie..xX I’ll get a spook video out this summer or fall. Thanks for watching and for the sub!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors Look forward to it!
NICE VIDEO!!!!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it!
I actually have better luck with the 110 and 130 when its windier I cannot get bit when its calm on those sizes. Check out my most recent video. 26lb bag on the plopper 110 and 130 big fish was 7.2lbr on bone also. sweet video. Also I have way better luck throwing over the tops of submerged grass away from shore.
Heck yeah! Nice job! Thanks for watching! I agree with throwing them over submerged weeds and grass. I have had the best success with them running them over points with weeds and grass.
Nice 🎣
Ruben Hernandez Thanks for watching Ruben!
Best lure made! lol
Northwoods Angling 😂
They work like anything else. If you're not catching fish it's because you don't know what you're doing.
whopper plopper are fun
They sure are! Thanks for watching!
lol he doubted the whopper. What a goober.
Yep, and it still isn't the best topwater out there. It's good in certain situations for sure. But far from the most effective. Thanks for watching.
Water and Ice Outdoors I fish creeks exclusively and this is the only top water I can rely on to get strikes.
Brandon G I can see that being good. I’ve used the smaller sizes in rivers up here for smallmouth with good success.
If you had it for two years you have the older design, the new one is much more weedless
Good to know, I'll have to see how some of the newer ones I picked up do this year.
First time watching your videos, but how do you like the reel??
C Caballero Thanks for watching. Which reel? The one I’m using in this video?
Yeah the Daiwa AIR one
C Caballero It has been a good reel. Nothing special but it’s gotten the job done for many years.
Nice, thanks for the reply, I subscribed sir 👊🏽🤘🏽

Your worst mistake is to get to comfortable and use to fast action.Dont get the mind set of instant action every cast with every lure
Good video. Were you using a leader, or just straight braid?
Jersey47 Thanks for watching! Straight braid. I don’t find I need a leader on my topwaters. Miss green power pro is what I use.
This in mn?
Kev Xiong Yes it it. Metro area.
I have had far more success with the Heddon Torpedo over the Whopper Plopper.

I still think popping frog is a better bait
Terrance Melvin Popping frogs/topwater frogs are awesome lures. But it’s kind of comparing apples to oranges. Ploppers are more of an open water topwater where an frog can be fished in the open water it excels around slop, pads, and shoreline cover. I do love popping frogs though! Thanks for watching!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors Another thang i like the fact that you touched on a key point about the retrieving speed its a very crucial thing to know,Awesome tip and video.

Gary Stancavage Thanks for watching Gary! They are great for smallies for sure!
@@WaterandIceOutdoors absolutely thanks for putting out the content! yea I love the whoppers! You think musky and pike will hit them to? I never caught those 2 fish yet and have to before the end of the year! So I'd you have any pointers/tips please let me know! Or if u could make a video on what u would use lure wise to catch some musky and pike?
Gary Stancavage Oh yeah they’ll hit a plopper. The 130 and 190 size are great for pike and muskie. Find flats with weed beds on them and you will find pike. Use spinnerbaits with big paddletail swinbaits on them or anything loud and flashy and pike will hit them.
@@WaterandIceOutdoors awesome brother!! Thanks for the tips!!! What color whoppers do u like using?
Gary Stancavage Bone and Loon have been my favorite.
If you're not catching fish on a Whopper plopper than your cadence is off and you're not producing the right tone. I've noticed different sizes work better for the type of bottom you're fishing over.
You can ask for a 5pounder..... LoL
This is true. I've noticed that there is a sweet spot in the speed where the bass seem to like it.
190 is the biggest size
Yeah but that’s pretty much for muskie
By the way I'm a Whopper plopper user
They aren't.
Hard to beat a spook
I love spooks! Sorry I missed your comment! Spooks are my go to topwater but I am working them with ploppers. I use the ploppers to find fish because you can work them faster than a spook and once I get a strike on the plopper, I pull the spook out and really dissect the area with it. Thank you so much for watching!
Whopper Plopper catches big smallmouth and large mouth
adam sandler???
You’re not the first person to say that on this channel! Haha!
😂
Lol yeah
The biggest is the 190
Miguel Velez Correct but it’s mostly used as a muskie lure.
Just curious on the time of year and the water temperature.
This video came out last year middle of August and was filmed about a week prior. I don’t remember exact water temps but would guess for that time of year would probably be pretty warm around low to mid 80s. It was also early in the morning. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
