Water 'resistance' = clear nail polish. Comes off with an alcohol bath when you need to work on it and provides decent protection from anything short of a full dunk. Yes, you can submerge your FC in a glass of alcohol. 99% isopropyl.
I put buzzers on every single quad in airplane if I didn't have buzzers on my drones I'd still be out looking for some of them you wouldn't believe how easy it is to be standing right on top of your drone in the grass or foliage and not see it
Adding HDZERO (or Walksnail) VTX isn't difficult to Baby Ape V2 like V1, where you have to add 2mm spacers to the top plate to get enough space for digital camera.

The Darwin babyape should come with 3D printed Motor Protectors. then the Quad would be level with that 3-D print antenna holder, So not Good Darwin Fpv!

Cheap recycled motors. Wow they put bolts in these props! Not push on props and hope they don't come off. I rate this as a throw away drone after 2 weeks! Spend your money on something of better quality!

I figure I need to practice on something smaller and less powerful first so I ordered a Babyape pro v2, Crux35, betafpv goggles and a Radiomaster pocket controller. can't wait. Do you recommend just cruising around some in angle mode before flying in acro?
well not many of our modern day micros have buzzers, or at least I am not remembering many recently with them. We used to have them pretty consistently 4+ years ago. Micros can be hard to find in the grass :)

Using an old-school buzzer on my micro allows me to fly forest paths with thick foliage without a worry. Its wonderful not stressing about losing the thing in the bush.

Unfortunately I haven't flown the babyape pro. I did fly the babyape 3 which appears very close to the BA pro. I prefer the babyape3, but the flight time is longer on the BA II
Can someone please let me know what else I need to buy other than the Baby Ape pro to get started? None of the sites make it easy to understand. If there was a starter kit I'd be interested. Also do I need a windows PC? Only have a Chromebook and android phone
Got the original Baby Ape Pro. Can't say I've flown it much, I was still really new at the time. Drove me nuts that the original motors didn't have standard motor screw holes or that the top screw holes didn't match up to T mount props. The goofy front end camera cage is steering me clear of this one, I think I saw that the arm are in a V shape, so if you bust one, you rplace two with one piece (Correct me if I'm wrong on this one). Thanks for the vid, even with that goofy FOV, you still managed to shred the backyard. Cheers!
I just got the cineape 25 and I absolutely love it! On an 850 it flys on rails!!!!! However I'm a little upset that this is a v2 and is worse than the v1 smh.....
Oh, yeah, ordered one today! As well as a Runcam Phoenix. I love Darwin quads for the $ but I have to change the camera every time I buy one. I have a bag full of them, lol.

blackbox doesn't have any impact on performance, it is flight characteristics that can be used to pid tune or use the gyro data to use something like gyroflow to improve the video stabilization for an external hd camera. the antenna is the foxeer lolipop, pretty widely available at fpv shops.
Sorry for the next question🫣 but which lipo do you use for this drone? Darwin recommend in 4s a 850mah lipo… is it more fun to have a 4s 1000mah or 1200mah or is the weight to much than😵💫👀
the batteries I use are always shown in the video with weights. Adding more battery weight won't always increase flight time but will decrease agility and top end performance.

Oh Mr. Burns.....(Excellent) ....I saw the way you came out of the corner of your house over the pool. The day you toss a quad into the pool is the day you will see me LMFAO. And that's not wishing you actually do it, but I see the hazard, and no doubt you do too lol. Then again, what's $150 these days? You'll always be my favourite pilot even though I'm into bigger stuff. (actually my wall has toy whoop/toothpick to 7") It's your easy manner and allowing us into your space that makes me watch. I mainly fly with the pool cover on. It has an "auto" cover. It is motorized and has a switch to bring it out or back off. The switch is behind a lock as well, so the kids can't open the pool without a parent. I have put one quad in the pool during a slow flight about a year ago. It was running frsky and fail safed, bounced off the cement and plunked right into the pool....dead. thank you for the kind words and even coming back to the channel as your interests are in the bigger quads. Much appreciated.
It could be me as well. I didn’t feel like I adjusted to the camera fov. For me to be certain I would need to swap the camera to one I know I can fly adequately.
@@NickBurnsFPV I had 1 broken shaft and 2 motors that I must have damaged the bell on. They stopped spinning but ESC was fine. Pretty minor crashes too. Otherwise, I enjoyed the drone but that was ultimately why I stopped flying it.
Any feel difference between these 1504 and 1404? I don’t like my 3.5’’ with 1404. I feel it lacks pop ands wondered whether 1504 could be a good size for such props? Also, and I might have missed it, did you weight the drone?
1404 is much more of a cruiser motor than 1404...at least on three inch props. Especially if we are running 3inch triblades a 1404 doesn't enough to handle that prop well.

That is an awfully big battery for a 3.5 propped quad. Will it fly…probably. Will it fly very long…probably not as long as a 1100mah. How will it fly…probably like a boat
Unfortunately I no longer have this one, I do regular giveaways. I can't be sure it will mount with creativity and the bottom plate slots, at best it would be a maybe.

@@NickBurnsFPV yeah, thats for their previous baby ape pro. on the first one esc was dead after around 10 batteries, on the second one gyro started glitching and broke after around 4 batteries. no crashes at all lol thats just fyi if you ever will want to recommend this to anyone :D i heard that for a lot of people they live pretty well but i have to be really unlucky
That camera Fov might actually be ok for some fixed wings. For longer range cruiser wings a slightly pointed down cam with a narrow fov can be a good setup
@@NickBurnsFPV yes many will put a GoPro or similar on their fixed wings or rc planes for digital hd footage and use a analog for video feed, just like with quads.
i love those little foxeer lolipops, i use them on my 2s fractal 75 build and they get so much cleaner video than the lil dipoles. totally worth the extra weight

@@zombizh4191If I recall correctly the version 2 is bigger with bigger props. With that it likely flies longer on the same capacity battery and should have more top end speed/thrust
Crux35 is really fun and agile, one of my first quads, and it was a very good choice on my part! Also really great support from Happymodel, I have had nothing but the best communication with them!!! Absolutely amazing company to work with and I even consider them friends. But be ready to change the frame (the hole placement for the 25.5mm layout really kills the arm durability)… you’ll break it in the the first decent crash, though it did actually take me a while and quite a few crashes. I have had really good experience with the “Recursion Labs” (check his RUclips channel too!!! Great fun science content!) “Scythe” that you can get from cncdrones. The “AOS 3.5” is also okay if you want something with replaceable arms, but you really can’t beat the Scythe, it’s lighter yet significantly stronger than the Happymodel frame, and keeps the original simplicity and agility. The AOS frame is better for a heavier scratch build.

Ahhh I see. They do look a little big for the arms. But I love those foams on the arms , and a wrap of your favorite tape keeps them on even in the worst of scraps . I put them on all my quads .
Idk if I missed it, but what's the mounting patterns for FC, vtx, and motors. Mostly want to know if they finally updating their motor mount pattern to accept more standard motors. I upgraded my baby ape pro's motors to iflight 1504s but had to drill put the holes a little to mount them. I would also switch out the camera to the original Ant, it definitely looks waaay better! Awesome review!! Seems like it's the normal Darwin issues and problems. Really awesome to see some of your freestyling! Sick little rip!! 🔥🤌 #Meowgow

It looks it has 16:9 camera better for box goggles, on 4:3 screen the view is squished horizontally

Please do not underestimate old-style buzzer. It can save your drone cause is much more loud than motor beepers.

It doesn't come ready for an external camera, like many things in FPV we would have to DIY(3d print) a solution with a gap for the battery connector.
Can you install a walksnail vtx and those the flight controller have a 9v pad
I don't see a 9v pad. Normally on HD vtx a 5v pad is sufficient or wire it to battery voltage.

Not certain, they have a version with the link which is the old version of the dji video system. With that I presume it could take an O3

Unfortunately those are details I can't remember from 10 months ago.
It looks like you need more camera angle or more battery weight. Seems like it was climbing under acceleration more than desirable.
GE Silicone clear caulking holds 800 mW vtx and antenna mast securely neatly flat on top .
Just got myself a Crux 35, and now I'm thinking, maybe I should've got this one instead...
For performance I like the crux35 more.

I think the baby ape pro had the wishbone style of arms. I don't think this one does but I would need to disassemble to be sure.

they fly fairly similarly. I thin the ap v2 will mount an external hd camera better. But if I recall correctly the 3.5inch version flies longer.

I would go smaller unless you have a big space you plan to fly primarily in. 3.5 is pretty quick for starting out, we would likely need more space.
How does this compare to the smart35? The baby ape pro didn’t have the lift or inertia to fling it high. Wasn’t as fun for freestyle.
For much inertia we need weight and thrust. This doesn't have the weight to fling over objects very far.

as long as its a 14mm wide camera yes it will likely mount normally.

any 19mm x 19mm camera should work. Something like the caddx ratel 2.

yes, but it will not be nearly as agile as in this video and you will need to design or create a mount.

The Caddx Baby Ratel V2 would be a good upgrade. Better than an Ant, and it won't break your budget.
yes this is true. Last I bought the baby ratel they were only $25.

Hi Nick! Despite the camera that's some decent freestyle. I was wondering if the hdzero freestyle v2 would fit in the back of the frame?
Unfortunately I no longer have this one, I do regular giveaways. I can't be sure it will mount with creativity and the bottom plate slots, at best it would be a maybe.
@@NickBurnsFPV ah that's difficult to measure then : ) I was thinking because HDZERO has now on their website the happymodel crux35 with the freestyle v2 vtx in it for sale so I thought maybe it will fit this Darwin too. Maybe I can find something on the Darwin website. This frame has replaceable arms right?
@@airdevil21 yes. the crux35 has a taller body that likely allows the v2 freestyle to be mounted.

@@NickBurnsFPV yeah, thats for their previous baby ape pro. on the first one esc was dead after around 10 batteries, on the second one gyro started glitching and broke after around 4 batteries. no crashes at all lol
thats just fyi if you ever will want to recommend this to anyone :D i heard that for a lot of people they live pretty well but i have to be really unlucky

ATE7456E is the OSD chip and they still haven't shipped my quad :( Have the camera though!

That camera Fov might actually be ok for some fixed wings. For longer range cruiser wings a slightly pointed down cam with a narrow fov can be a good setup
I don’t have any recent fixed wing experience, that fov might be useful. On wings is it common to have another external hd camera to record?
@@NickBurnsFPV yes many will put a GoPro or similar on their fixed wings or rc planes for digital hd footage and use a analog for video feed, just like with quads.
i love those little foxeer lolipops, i use them on my 2s fractal 75 build and they get so much cleaner video than the lil dipoles. totally worth the extra weight
do you have issues with them breaking? I think this is the second one I have broken

outright faster?? Yes 3.5inch on 4s is going to be faster.

@@FregoUA I do wish these companies would design quads with an assortment of external camera mounts. I guess they are depending on the community to take up that task. A company could bolster their brand if they were to do it. Or at least I think it would bolster the brand.

@@NickBurnsFPV well i have a betafpv cetus x for beginning and my dad get the baby ape pro v2. I flow the pro v2 twice and looking for the pro v2 as well or buy the baby ape 2. Only use for fun with a little bit freestyle…
@@zombizh4191If I recall correctly the version 2 is bigger with bigger props. With that it likely flies longer on the same capacity battery and should have more top end speed/thrust

Crux35 is really fun and agile, one of my first quads, and it was a very good choice on my part! Also really great support from Happymodel, I have had nothing but the best communication with them!!! Absolutely amazing company to work with and I even consider them friends.
But be ready to change the frame (the hole placement for the 25.5mm layout really kills the arm durability)… you’ll break it in the the first decent crash, though it did actually take me a while and quite a few crashes.
I have had really good experience with the “Recursion Labs” (check his RUclips channel too!!! Great fun science content!) “Scythe” that you can get from cncdrones.
The “AOS 3.5” is also okay if you want something with replaceable arms, but you really can’t beat the Scythe, it’s lighter yet significantly stronger than the Happymodel frame, and keeps the original simplicity and agility.
The AOS frame is better for a heavier scratch build.
I too prefer the crux35, that one is a fun rocket with really good flight time as well.

@@FERNANDOPR_FPV the “Recursion Labs” “Scythe” from “cncdrones” is by far my favourite… but it depends what you have available to you and where you order stuff from.
Ordering from Canada may not be the best for everyone… but I do have friends from all around the world that order from cncdrones… but can’t know every situation…

It came with the foam pad on the rear.
Ahhh I see. They do look a little big for the arms. But I love those foams on the arms , and a wrap of your favorite tape keeps them on even in the worst of scraps . I put them on all my quads .
Idk if I missed it, but what's the mounting patterns for FC, vtx, and motors. Mostly want to know if they finally updating their motor mount pattern to accept more standard motors.
I upgraded my baby ape pro's motors to iflight 1504s but had to drill put the holes a little to mount them. I would also switch out the camera to the original Ant, it definitely looks waaay better!
