I agree. I know this might sound a little disrespectful but this isn't some comic con artist ally or craft fair theses pieces are crafted by well respected and seasoned artist.
Man, I was expecting this to be a total disaster cause that's how these "obscure absurd sounding events" usually end up like. Was pleasantly surprised this one had very little controversy.
It's really not that surprising. Artwork in the thousands is pretty standard, if anything it could have been more expensive. Now the print prices are ridiculous.
I was super happy I got to attend one of these exhibits, thanks to SEGA Europe. Easily one of my Sonictuber highlights. Only downside: the drinks were free, and I had *way* too much.
Thanks a lot for your video. I couldn't reach the Exhibition in time when I gone to London at 2017 by two days T-T. Again, thanks to you, I can see it :D
Wow I remember seeing this in Sheffield Meadowhall back in 2016, this just unlocked a memory that was buried in the back of my head- forgot about this!
I remember getting the free book and looking though the artwork and thought it looked cool and would actually like some of the artwork. Then I saw the prices hoo boy.
I had no idea this even happened. And the stupidest part is, I think I walked past an art shop that was selling one of the pieces from the exhibition. It was the paint-dripping Sonic face. I mean, I'd never have been able to afford it, but if I'd known, I'd've given it more thought than just: "Huh. Sonic art. Neat." and kept walking!
I never knew who Keith Maiden was, and I didnt want to see Keith Maidens rejected Sonic painting until I knew there was one. ... I really wanna see it.
I don't think it was fully developed. The concept was probably too extreme to paint, and the effort would be for nought if he painted it all and was prevented from displaying or selling it.
I have the guidebook, it's such an awesome little book. Glad I was able to grab a copy. Saw the "exhibition" at the Glasgow branch. It was really only four or five of the prints, still pretty cool though.
tbh am not surprised by some of the prices. For example just imagine how much time went into designing and sculpting that title screen sculpture. Yes it sucks that I for one could never afford the original works, but I know if i put that much effort into my work then I would also look to get as much money for it as possible as well.
Those were from Sonic the Comic. I had to find something to try and illustrate that part. From what I remember the rejected designs were a lot worse. I seem to recall a giant golden chain and a gold tooth.
I’m entirely unsurprised that the oil painting piece- which is effectively a collage of already existing official art repainted to near exact specifications- was the most expensive piece (even over the sculpture or the metalworks); that’s the exact sort of bourgeois artworld nonsense that goes on constantly within the fine art world (and that I personally believe spoils the whole thing). That it is still cheaper then what some fine art goes for- as are the rest of the prices- oughta say something as well. With that said, those sculptures and metalworks did look stunning, the neon piping emeralds were cool, and I did like a fair few of the illustrations and paintings, so y’know; swings and roundabouts innit.
I’ve never been a big fan of that random goofy deep voice used when making fun of something or being comedic. I don’t know why. But you do you. I like your videos
While I understand Sega's decision to discard Aiden's stereotypical portrait, I respect it for it's an art piece that is intended to express ideas and opinions, as drastic as they may be. Not to devalue works that don't have deep meanings behind them, I think self-expression is an important part of art as a whole. But wait, "as drastic as they may be"? Maybe it's not the best way to put it. The world of art isn't free of flawed stigmas like racism and sexism, and nothing stops a discriminative person to develop a talent, pick some tools and create a work that is pretty to the eye but controversial subjectively.
sadly no I live in Australia and we don't get anything like that here so and as for the art pieces I owe number them not one single one of them there are really beautiful I do a met as an artist myself but yeah sadly none of it came here
ayyy I saw some of these pieces! I didn't expect to see them at all, but I just so happened to visit Milton Keynes for unrelated reasons and saw them on display at the gallery there! It caught me by surprise and lil 16 year old me was so hyped that I just so happened to stumble across one of the galleries the art was held at :') There was one booklet on display to read- I asked if there was any spare but there wasn't :( but I'm still hella happy got to catch some pieces! I remember seeing Robert Oxleys Amy Rose piece there, it really is super cool art irl
the only one i didn’t like is the amy dripping one , bc it’s more creepy than the sonic one as it kinda looks like blood. then there’s the weird almost cheap looking sonic sculptures :/
Not much a fan of western art. Most are dark or using low contrast colors and a bit too realistic imo. Dripping sonic looks good tho. Good thing Japanese artists and designers love vibrant colors.
Which one of you maniacs owns the expensive one?
👀
My birth
EARTH
Does it count if I own a replica?
@@moonwolf8385 Yes. Yes it does.

Now this is fine art.
There should be a sonic museum filled with sonic art.
2020 make it happen
I don’t know about that buddy 👀
EDGELORD YOU ARE VIRTUALLY EVERYWHERE ARE DO WE LIKE THE SAME THINGS
Sonic OC
It's Going To Have an Oc And Rule 34 Section
Yeah 2020 is the perfect year for that
To be honest the prices sounds surprisingly lower than expected.
I mean this is fine art and they look totally worth the price (with some expections)
Yeah
I agree. I know this might sound a little disrespectful but this isn't some comic con artist ally or craft fair theses pieces are crafted by well respected and seasoned artist.
11:45 why is Sonic's arm sticking out of his chest?
Man, I was expecting this to be a total disaster cause that's how these "obscure absurd sounding events" usually end up like. Was pleasantly surprised this one had very little controversy.
5:52 When you leave your sonic popsicle in the sun for 5 minutes
It's really not that surprising. Artwork in the thousands is pretty standard, if anything it could have been more expensive.
Now the print prices are ridiculous.
How are the prices for art determined? I'm not very familiar with... art. In general.
The one piece of Sonic merchandise scalpers can’t get
Very interesting, I bought one of books from this event off ebay recently.
Are they still selling them?
The price came from the Green Hell Zone.
I was super happy I got to attend one of these exhibits, thanks to SEGA Europe. Easily one of my Sonictuber highlights. Only downside: the drinks were free, and I had *way* too much.
The music along with your accent man, very calming
Wow, that totally is a thing of beauty. And the fact that everything is on sale is just awesome.
Me:*takes photos of the art pieces and prints them out*
Also me:yes.......YES............YYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSS
the sculpture of sonic 1's title screen is my absolute favorite.
Awesome video and keep up the great work and I hope you have a great day
Thanks a lot for your video.
I saw the one up in Glasgow, had a few pieces but can't remember which. Got the guide book though.
I remember getting the free book and looking though the artwork and thought it looked cool and would actually like some of the artwork. Then I saw the prices hoo boy.
Damn I’m really sad I missed that...
Yes! I miss these sonic history videos. Do more of them please.
I remember seeing the sonic running prints in the Sheffield branch and being really impressed!
I actually own of the art pieces! I own the Neon chaos emeralds
Dude, that was the best piece in that collection imo.
Id doubt it
I really do @STP8 I remember going to the exhibit and amazed at the pieces. I even got to meet the artist who made it.
You own the neon chaos emeralds,LUCKYYYYYYY
U again
me: i wanna buy those
Sega: IT'S OVER 9000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was a great video! Good Job Badnik Mechanic!
Wish I could see that exhibit. The biggest attraction at my special snowflake of a local art museum is a plain blue canvas. Yup.
5:49 - 6:03 looks like sonic 4 running motion *if you know what I mean
Oh yeah
Oh, I need to find that guidebook soon!
Some of the Art prints made it did make it to an Art shop near me.
But alas, I could only appreciate them in person and not afford it..
1:48 didn't expect the "announcer" to be in this video lol
I never knew who Keith Maiden was, and I didnt want to see Keith Maidens rejected Sonic painting until I knew there was one.
...
I really wanna see it.
I don't think it was fully developed. The concept was probably too extreme to paint, and the effort would be for nought if he painted it all and was prevented from displaying or selling it.
Wait it takes less than an hour for you to go to York, it does for me as well!!
I have the guidebook, it's such an awesome little book. Glad I was able to grab a copy. Saw the "exhibition" at the Glasgow branch. It was really only four or five of the prints, still pretty cool though.
30th anniversery: we rented out all of london and made it green hill zone!
I wish I only get to go to London like 7 times a year if I’m lucky.
40th anniversary: We bought the world and turned it into Sonic Forces!
I wish we got official Sonic XL artwork
Is no one gonna help Sam get through the endless void of sitting in that chair?
*Credits end* HE'S STILL THERE?!
Is anyone upset the original Sanic drawing was not part of the exhibition?
I wonder if they played that elevator-music styled Green Hill track from Sonic Jam's museum section.
Game Apologist that would be cool
that. is. SOOOOO. rad. holy fuck.
I would've bought that Amy painting.... no question... if I had the finance to do so....
oh please those prices are nothing compared to an orange square
There's nothing wrong with those pieces of art as artwork themselves; it's just that the ridiculous prices are nothing to be proud of.
Not gonna lie, as soon as I saw Sonic Boom I screamed so loud in my apartment coz I want it so bad....
i actually went to see some of the art work in person at the washington green fine art exhibit. i even own the art book (UK)
Shadow deserves his own comic spin off mini series
This time, not too edgy.
Hey Boris I’m comin tomorrow to see when it goes live
the neon light chaos emeralds are my favorite
7:20 IT CAME FROM GREEN HELL ZONE
My guess was 50K, but it was 40K. Close enough.
I guessed 10K to 20K. I was surprised at how much it actually went for.
The artist's probably didn't pocket all of the money. The galleries would have wacked a huge commission percentage more than likely.
Probably right on that one!
@@BadnikMechanic absolutely! Maybe I'll do an unofficial sonic exhibition 🤣
I wish i could get one
Breathtaking art
I acually went there it was amazing.
You can still buy the art online but i forgot the name of the website.
The art is splendid

I mean I’m fine with this but am I the only one who finds Sonic having a fine arts con a bit funny?
The blurry sonic face I saw it in the Guinness world records
Now I'm imagining Sonic as a Doritos pope sitting in a gamer chair.
Pretty much that. But with a gold tooth.
When you were talking about the rejected ideas from Maiden, were those images you showed his actual art or something else?
Those were from Sonic the Comic. I had to find something to try and illustrate that part.
From what I remember the rejected designs were a lot worse. I seem to recall a giant golden chain and a gold tooth.
@@BadnikMechanic gold chain eh?
It’s kinda sad because the sonic Alton towers stuff got removed because of licensing issues, lucky I got on em.
I loved the sonic 1 painting
Sorry scultpure

Is there any more news on the classic old sonic statue
Why would you buy a painting for over $50 bucks, let alone a god damn SONIC THE HEDGEHOG one
8:32 I'm here after watching Sam's livestream. lol
Here’s the art you can buy you just need to search sonic in the website. www.castlefineart.com/

I'm all in favour of colourful pieces of artwork. The darker ones have limited appeal to me.
