In a deleted scene from season 6's "Frontierland", Samuel Colt is shown to have the knife on his belt, implying that he's the one who made it, just like the Colt. That's indicated by the fact that, it makes the demons that are killed by it "flicker" just like the Colt's bullets do.
@@ArakkoaChronicles Interesting. So if that was case, do you think there's a possibility the demon killing knife could replicated in a process similarly to the colt bullet creation ritual?
I always thought Crowley made those weapons while he was a lowely crossroads demon. The same way he gets other hunters to work for him, he at one point made deals with other hunters in the old west and gets them to take out his competition. It's why he understands the weapons and is able to make ammo for the colt. The line about the "Alamo" makes me think the knife was first given to Jim Bowie to fight Santa Anna and his demon army. And the same night, he powers up one of Colt's guns for a similar reason. Its how he became the King of the Crossroads. We need a third weapon though, to round it out. Maybe he made a similar deal to another gunsmith... maybe one Oliver Winchester? That would make an awesome spin off... Bowie, Colt and Winchester... running around killing demons and monsters in the old west. And get an answer as to why Colt built the railroad devils trap. They would have to use the Beastie Boys song though... "here's a little story I've got to tell, about three bad bothers you know so well..."
@radagast7200 In season 1 John Winchester explicitly states that the gun was made by Samuel Colt, that's why it's named after him. As for the knife, like I said in my comment above, a deleted scene shows Colt possessing the knife. This was meant to imply that he made it too, until season 13, where the boys' grandfather revealed it was made by the Kurdish people. I guess that Colt must've found the knife and studied it so that he creates the gun and the bullets.
Bonus points for including that clip from Magicians. Absolutely fantastic show. I also came up with a very nerdy bit of background lore/headcanon for the creation of the "Kurdish demon-killing knife" in a Supernatural-themed RP that I run with my girlfriend and a few friends. It was really fun trying to hash it all out.
The blade is magical in nature do to its ability to kill Demons meaning it can definitely kill basically anything supernatural but weaker than Demons like Werewolves or even Vampires probably A Rugaru isn't very unusual to be murdered by a weapon solely made to kill Demons Plus it was Purgatory and everything in Purgatory has the same fatal weaknesses
I wonder if Lucifer made the blade specifically to torture demons. He always despised demons, and he knew how they were made better than anyone. Somehow he knew what the colt was after being shot with it once, even tho he was in the cage when it was made. Archangels got some know-how...
It could also have something to do with Purgatory/The Bad Place. I seem to remember the obsidian bladed weapons from Purgatory being able to kill/behead a handful of creatures it normally wouldn't have been able to. Not to mention the spear from The Bad Place was a whole plot point in a later season since it was able to actually hurt Michael from Apocalypse world. The spear head was made of some kind of bone just like the handle of the demon killing knife and the blade could have been forged from Purgatory metal or something.
Maybe the simplest answer to why powerful demons survived is their strength as every demon that survived was far more powerful than a regular demon. The language could me the angelic language they mentioned in the show a couple of times, which gives it its powers or the steel itself is some sort of rare holy material.
Unfortunately, Enochian is known to a LOT of the cast. They probably would have started mass producing them and handing them out to hunters like candy if it was only Enochian.
My guess is that it was produced by witches or maybe even lucifer as he doesn’t care for demons and probably made it for his own second in command as a symbol status. Maybe in season 3, Ruby got the blade from lillith who probably got it from Lucifer for being his second and the one to break the final seal, it would need something potentially to kill her (if sam didn’t juice up)
We actually don't know what the limits on the knife are. It was never stated in the show that was the case and we do see it used on other creatures. We just mainly see it used on demons because most other things in Supernatural have a easy way to kill them already.
We do know a limit. It can't kill angels. That's why they use angel blades because it can kill both angels and demons, not to mention that lilith stated that angel blades were an upgrade over the demon killing knife, and the Winchesters acknowledged that it was an upgrade as well.
I just want to point out that in one episode, Sam is able to wield Mjlnir, Thor's hammer, and destroys whatever that was that bought it. (Im not sure if that was supposed to be Thor... though we see Odin and Baldur in that episode, and Loki and three of his children children in another, we never see Thor...) And then it just disappears. He never uses it again... presumably that was a very powerful weapon. We dont know if he left it there, or stashed it away, or what... but he ended the episode with it.
Nope, he uses it twice. Once during that auction, and another time during S15 E14 "Last Holiday". They kick down a door, and (I think) Dean has the grenade launcher, and you see Sam put Mjolnir on his right shoulder. From that we can assume they've had it in the bunker the entire time, but never used it.
Samuel Colt likely rebuilt the Kurd knife into what we have on the show which explains it's bowie styling. It certainly isn't an ancient Kurdish design by that point. That would have led to making the pistol. Ruby could have gotten the knife at any point after that or even been the one to make a deal with Colt explaining how it worked in order to spare her life. Since the knife is generic named, Henry said "a" not "the", there should be more kurd demon killing knives, although not looking the same, somewhere out there.
Correction it doesn't have to be a fatal spot just has to be deep enough cause if you remember Bobby was possessed and stabbed himself somewhere in the abdomen he survived and the demon was killed.
I never noticed how similar the writing on the knife was compared to the mark of Cain. Good eye! It definitely would make sense if it is the same language. Which could explain why nobody has a full explanation on where or how it came to be other than the Kurds. Maybe it’s just that old that its true origin has been lost to time?
I kind of figured that the mark's corruption was what allowed Lucifer to create demons in the first place since in the show the mark came before the first demon and the mark is what created the first demon. It even gave kane the ability to create the knights of hell four incredibly powerful demons. I do like the idea that the blade is an attempt at recreating the first weapon. I could see it being made in part by the witch that studied all of the curses as she did figure out the mark of kane and how to get rid of it. It could have even been something kane himself made as a way to end his own life, not knowing that it would ultimately fail in the end.
The language on the knife exists in reality, but not on earth. It‘s the native language of the demons, it‘s „Lillim“, the language was named after the first demon. The symbols mean something like „free us from the devils followership and army“
My theory has always been that Azazel created the knife, in the ancient texts of the Judo-Christian religions Azazel was one of the Angels who fell with Lucifer/Sataniel and was originally the Armorer of Heaven, which would also tie into him trying to create a Super weapon/perfect host for Lucifer out of a human and into the original fight with the Darkness and God/The Angels. It has also been my theory that the 4 Princes were all fallen angels hence why all of them have Yellow eye's instead of Black or white.
sometimes the 'special method' of killing things seems to be for dramatic effect... why doesn't beheading a werewolf, or a Rugaru, or a lot of 'humanoid' based monsters work... Leviathans are the only ones who seem, accepting, of a beheading, so long as their head doesn't travel too far... it goes back to bobby's use of a wood chipper to kill a monster with a unique af killing method... Winchesters should tow a wood chipper everywhere, just in case...
Maybe its Rubys (or another demon) attempt at recreating the process of making angel blades. Imagine if every demon also carried an angel killing weapon
I think it's a mix of multiple theories that you can put together like the Virgin sacrifice combined with multiple forms of magic just to make this one knife
Weird, I always thought the Rougarou was a werewolf, because I'd swear dean called him wolf boy, or something. Then again my memory is total crap so there's that, lol.
I got my demon killing knife off of fire and steel, and it looks a lot like the one you got. The handle is a slightly lighter shade of brown, but it's the same shape.
Maybe having a possible link to the Mark Of Cain (which is supposed to be always visible, so anyone that sees it knows him and knows the consequences of attacking Cain) gives it an extra 'something else'. Since The Mark is supposed to return every attack sevenfold, maybe the knife kills demons by using their own powers
8:30 Theres not thousands of adult aged virgins any where close to me! And I live in a city! I wish they'd implemented a few other sacred relic weapons, such as The Sword of Saint Joan of Arc! That sounds like that should be able to kill demons!
I don't really see any reason why the Mark couldn't twist someone into a Demon without any real link to Lucifer. Demons are just Human souls that get twisted into an unrecognisable state after all, you don't really need any angelic power for that. Even if Lucy had never fallen, id bet good money that demons would still exist eventually.
I know this is all fantasy, but think of the blade like an intelligent magic item from D&D. It could be uploading information to Dean without his knowledge.
Except Dean stabbed Castiel with it. And he didn’t die. Any angelic metal melted down into a weapon still works on angels. As Crowley’s bullets killed angels.
did they ever try to stab an angel with the demon blade? my head cannon, once we learned of angel blades, was that it was probably a "reforged" angel blade
9:03 Abaddon answered this question. Nothing happens to the demon and the host dies. Cain tried to kill abaddon while she was possessing his wife and only Collette was harmed
In the show it's and ancient demon killing knife of the curds. In real like it was a mistakenly put together prop that ended up looking cool. Your welcome hehehe
Maybe Lucifer made the knife. Weird I know, but maybe he made it for himself to protect himself from demons that might want to try and kill him and take over. Then he somehow lost it along the way.
Way out of the box thought, but what if the knife handle is made from a unicorn horn and the symbols on the blade harness the purity of the unicorn itself making it a weapon of 'pure goodness' that can kill evil...
I believe the blade was human kinds first attempt creating a weapon with the soul purpose of killing demons and things that go bump on the night using metallurgy of angelic and or demon origin
