I think this is a moment where Jack didn't like being famous, you could allways tell when he was in the dead weather interviews where he would get asked so many questions and some about the guitar or other things (Allthough sometimes he was the just the one who would talk the most or had the most to say, LJ and Dean where just kinda quiet), but still why are they asking the drummer of the band about guitar and not the guitarist of the band they're interviewing, I think that allways anoyed him a bit
A lot of alternate tunings have distinct sounds that are easy to memorize, especially open major tunings. Tuning that fast is practically necessary for anybody who wants to be a musician that doesn't just play in standard tuning.
Jack White - wow! Either that guy was clueless about who Jack really is, or he's got HUGE stones! I can't imagine trying to play like that with no training or talent in front of Jack. Loved the way Jack speed dialed in the open A tuning on that old box.
You can see/hear that he doesn't tune it to open E. He ignores E string, adjusts the A, then clearly tunes up a step the D, G, and B. The adjusts the final E. Simple!
I don't see too much complication. Neither Jack looked pissed off or being a dick, nor the other dude was acting anything than normal. With that said, it is easily understandable what makes the difference between a professional and an amateur. Jack just plays a few chords with one finger and it sounds awesome and so simple to do. But in one second the other guy makes it sound like crap.
i don't think jack was as annoyed as many comments suggests. maybe it wasn't his favorite moment of the day, but if he didn't feel like to do it, he's got the balls to rejected the idea.
Yeah go for whatever feels best, but the individual string tunings (whatever name that gives it) plus the description of him tuning it 'between keys' is correct for this video. He doesn't get it in a particular key.
Damn for me it sounds totally like Open E. And even more: different In My Time Of Dying tabs have different Open tunnings... Some said Open A, some Open D, for me the best sound is from Open E :) I guess you have to check tunnings and pick the one you prefer :P
Ok, everyone's close, but not quite, it's: E - A - E - A - C# - E. Only trouble in working this out is that, although White keeps the guitar in tune with itself, it's not perfect pitch, so it's near enough halfway between an open A5 and Ab5 tuning. So if you want it perfect, you'll have to tune it imperfectly!

Hearthis is he the drummer????
Clark Kent omg, yes. in Dead Weather, Jack is the drummer
I didn't knew back then
Clark Kent 👍🏼
Why would it annoy him? He's a multi instrumentalist. It's not like they asked him about something he didn't know
The only thing worse than asking JW for an impromptu guitar lesson, is the guy recording the happening and forcefully cackling in the back.
He tuned the strings to open A (E A E A Cs E) a lot of jack white older stuff is in that tuning. Seven nation army, Catch hell blues..
I think I had the same feeling as Jack around 1:18.
Haha 1:18 Jack's like "Oh dear lord! Someone take that thing away from him!"
He looked like that clip of Michael Jackson during the "We Are the World" recording 😂
holy fuck i wouldnt even dare to play in front of him
Jack tuning that guitar sounds better than me playing the guitar... and I can play the guitar.

It's an open tuning. If you've ever played a major chord, you can go to an open tuning that fast.
hopefully he starts playing guitar, then he has an awsome story to tell why he picked up the guitar
Jack white gives man a guitar lesson, man is the only one not uncomfortable
Led Zeppelin song - In my time of dying...
The White Stripes song - Little bird

It mainly sounded crap because he fretted the 6th fret, not the 5th or 7th
Prehistoricman But Jack's strumming technique was flawless. The other guy sounded like any other guy.
Well, then you probably won't be tuning guitars in less than 60 seconds, and you'll be lost if there isn't one around.
Hey! Mazzy Star is playing in the background .. I think lol
r.i.p dom santiago
Wtf is this
with 1 move from jack white at 0:43 this video goes to disaster
this is my second time watching this and im just like the hell was that dude doin

sucks !
In My Time Of Dying- Led Zeppelin
This is the riff Jack showed him...Dont think anyone caught that
if anyone is wondering what tuning that was... it's open A major.
Whoops, no '5' necessary in the description.
Jack is thinking "holy mother of god make him stop"
It's open A. E-D#-A-E-A-E. You're welcome.
u sound like jareq from game of thrones xD
hahaha, right!
I wonder if he now has 'the guitar bug'
I taught my first girlfriend to play the same way. Lol. Easiest way to teach...
does anybody recognize that tuning?
Jack is like "...stop".
He's a pro^^ And a good guitarist
This is funny cool and epic!
Jack=guitar good
Haha this was funny
Awesome 👍😎
LOL pretty much

I thought he was joking with that tuning but then he finished and I was like "shit, he really tuned that"
That man can play well! :P
And I swear, Jack tuned that thing in like 10 sec.! Good greif! O.o
so no one got the joke here.

apantsos ?

he tunes it like a major chord, so he can play chords with the slide
i think it's something like D A D F# B E
This is the story of how Robert Johnson learned to play overnight, I'm sure.
IKR?! I was like O___o!
It takes me a good 2-5 mins. to tune mine! xP
60 seconds for a 6string is still pretty fast.
Honestly who gives a f***
or you just get a fuckin tuner?
open E, Joe walsh uses it a lot, good for slide
Is open a
Open D ?
+Ruan Carneiro Open A
in fact this is a G# :p
and the guy thinks he can play guitar now LOL
lol
Drop D
nop definitly not drop D
Jack wouldn't be seen dead using drop D.
counternub40 he used it on High Ball Stepper though
Youri van der Starre
True story bro.
Youri van der Starre and maybe icky thump (dont quote me been years since i heard the song or tried to play it)
