It always strikes me how these accidents "just happen"... just like when you accidentally reverse into a neighbour's car... some dude accidentally reverses his freight train into certain death
Ah yes, the relatable situation, when you drive an engine in a barber shop, an engine driving itself in a house, an engine reversing in a signalbox, and an engine driving in a bank of dirt! My favourite!
@@Gnappopo I do it all the time mate
Don’t mean to boast but I don’t crash
thats why its called an accident
@@thecoolestcaboose7790 bruh
I enjoy these history lessons behind the show. It makes rewatching the classic series even more exciting.
Ah yes one of my favorite episode
He should one day do A True Story Of Percy's Promise since that's based on a real event
He already did
@@greenio2011 No he did Percy's predicament
Btw love your vids :)
@@nuget9540 oh well *guess I can’t see basic letters*
Lol
Thank you for enjoying my videos!
DIO!
Here is another video talking about the basis of Percy’s Promise:

Percy was rather careless, so he died.
Above percy lay a huge grabber!
@Vic The Protogen It's just a joke
@Vic The Protogen percy was smacked by stepney and boco
@Vic The Protogen Oh another Protogen, Hi!
Percy was a degenrate lmao
This is a comedic reference.
After seeing that beginning clip, I actually thought that there could be some hint to the Quintinshill Rail Crash of 1915, when a signalman forgot about a local train on the line, which ended up getting hit by a troop train, after it was signaled though. Then a sleeper express collided with the wreckage, and the entire wreck was now ablaze due to the gas lights leaking.
“Oliver is still boastful because he’s that sort of engine, but he’s always most careful when goes on the main line.”
I will never get used to these intros.
I grew up with Ringo Starr and Micheal Angelis as the narrators to these classic Thomas stories.
I looked up the number of the 0-6-0T involved in the S&D run away and found that it was a Jinty (LMS Fowler 3F). The 2-8-0 was most likely a Fowler 7F considering were the event took place.
When I was real little, this episode scared the shit out of me...
Same 😌. Good times
@@lovelysartstudio8299 yeah, the moment that really makes it freaky is Gordon’s angry face, sheesh, even at the ripe age of 26, that face is unsettling.
When I was about 4/5, I hid under a blanket because I thought Gordon was going to jump out of the TV screen.....
@@bladeobrian2144 oh yeah. Gordon has the most terrifying faces. And James and Henry toi
@@lovelysartstudio8299 James especially
I know one of the troublesome truck faces in Henry Gets Spooked was frightening as well
@@bladeobrian2144 You probably mean the van's face with the large open mouth. That was the one that freaked me out
Gordon crashes into Percy and makes Windows 10 error sounds.
Brother I love these types of videos thanks for making them
Thank you for watching them if anything my man! :)
The train stopping was what inspired the near collision part, and 1466 running away until being derailed is the actual running away part. So in my words, they both inspired the story of Percy Runs Away.
This was one of my favortie episodes from season 1
just the fact that the crashes are from real life events just makes it more entertaining
Brilliant as always. Might i suggest Gordon and the Famous Visitor, James goes buzz buzz (Buzz Buzz) and Bulgy (the episode)
That poor green Caterpillar with red stripes
Hardly an exciting adventure, but "Peter Sam and the Refreshment Lady" was something which actually happened to Wilbert Awdry when he was a volunteer guard on the Talyllyn railway.
Gordon: why are you running? why are you running?
The incident is also slightly based on Quintinshill, where a troop train would collide into a stationary goods train, later an express train would hit the wreckage, and freight cars of 2 other trains would derail. The goods engine and troop engine were destroyed, while the 2 engines of the express train would be repaired and later scrapped when BR killed innocent steam engines
I think there’s a true story of Percy promise
There is.
I forgot what it was........but all I remember is that it involved a Midland Engine I think......
Here is a video about the basis:

Yes there is
This is my favorite episode
I love these videos and your channel Happy early New Year Trainboy
RIP Percy in that intro
I love this series. They may be short and there may not be that much information on the topics but you do a great job of telling the story!
I like how the rew w awdry dislikes henry’s forrest because it breaks rulle 55, completly forgetting he had written this story
love your sarcasm and I love this episode.
Gordon And The Gremlin and James And The Trouble With Trees. The Royal Train with the Queen was late leaving the station and had to go fast to make up for lost time and the bathwater sloshed around the compartment when the Queen was taking a bath. A tree slides down a hill and remains upright when it ends up on the rails.
Do these episodes: Thomas’s Christmas party, James learns a lesson, Old iron, a close shave for duck, James goes buzz buzz, granpuff, you can’t win, and busy going backwards.
This episode all ways stuck with me as a kid. The scene were Gordon is charging towards Percy freaked me out.
Could u do James and the trouble with trees as a basis
No matter how funny the RL event is, runaway trains are no joke. Especially ones with dangerous contents.
You should read and see if Henry's crash in "something in the air" ever happened, because I find it hard to believe a steam engine never crashed into the ocean because of high tides.
It did happen in Italy in the 1950’s. Train of Thought made a video about it.
I always thought it was a goofy locomotive version of the delayed running in Scooby-Doo! I was also imagining the engines you described with faces. But not the human ones like in Thomas, but more like smoke box doors with eyes and mouths.
"Percy didn't whistle so the signalman forgot him"
Percy: :)
When I heard the intro I automatically thought of Dieseld199’s April fools video
Same lol
Same
Same
i love this video so freaking much
Now this is where sh*t goes down
This might sound i bit strange but what about toad stands by where scruffy, well... Falls apart by Oliver
IT’S FINALLY HERE!
dude legit just scared percy so much he ran a literal marathon just to get away from him
Nice vid man
In the second story 7620 is a LMS 3F “Jinty“ , while the 2-8-0 was most likely a Fowler 7F that latter being most likely given there prevalence on that particular line .
That Jinty was actually ment to be prepared for service with the WD during WWII, but were not sent and quickly returned to LMS stock
@@knuckles1206 that’s actually quite the factoid I knew 10 were sent to France but I didn’t know 7620 was almost one of them
It's always cool when the engines in the story are preserved. Speaking of preserved locos, have you considered covering the episode Bulldog? From what I learned on the Right on Track podcast, the events were based off the Welsh Highland Railway's engine Linda, and the (spot? event? I don't remember which) became known as Linda's Leap.
Wow this was very interesting, I learned alot now
How, the video was just posted lol
@@Langosteen ikr
@TrainBoy The number of the locomotive in the S&D incident, No. 7620, belonged to a Fowler 3F "Jinty" 0-6-0T.
The intro is basically Thomas rated R
Awesome dude
When i was a kid i always loved this episode for one thing only ,i only watched it for the runaway theme
Do another freaking Day Out With Thomas. Those videos are funny when you rage about them!
I like the story about 1466. She's being returned to steam for the Didcot Railway Centre 60th Anniversary (or at least I think that's the plan.)
I read somewhere that there were true stories for "Thomas Goes Fishing" and "Thomas and Gordon"
UK narration was better with Gordon's "OOORRRRRRRR"
Yup
Next:
The True story of "James & the Trouble with Trees"
I remember an interview where he stated that after reading a news paper story inspired him to create the story where Edward helps out Gordon up Gordons hill. This along with your research has made me very curious on what other ones he was inspired by and if he did this for every episode
A close shave for Duck or a big day for Thomas
I've never seen a real-life runaway engine story.
The S&D incident is mentioned in a book I have. Apparently, the 0-6-0's driver jumped down so he could get aboard the freight engine (which wasn't going awfully fast) and bring it to a halt, but the fire man misinterpreted his action as jumping off to be clear of the crash and so he did the same. The driver successfully stopped the freight, thinking the fire man was still on the footplate of the 0-6-0 to also bring it to a halt, but was then rather dismayed to see his chum by the side of the track, very much not on the footplate of the loco that was now propelling the wagons down the line with nobody on board.
I can't imagine what their conversation must've been as they both watched it disappear into the distance...
This is my favorite season one episode
Something in the air
Always a treat watching these, since i cant be bothered to do my own research, this episode always frightened me as a kid, i dunno, maybe it was George carlins groan right before gordon hit percy or maybe it was the close up shots of gordons face, either way its nice to know this information!
It happened all the time in the steam era. An almost word for word accident happened on the brighton line in the early 1900s.
Cajon Pass. 3 more run Away trains from 1989 to 1996.
1466 is now undergoing a overhaul and will be returned to steam in the near future
That thumbnail is what Nightmares are made of
I swear when I here the numbers of the engines sound like 4th or 6th grade math
The incident involving the Jinty 0-6-0 and 7F 2-8-0 is described in detail in the book 'The Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway' by Robin Atthill.
I was on the footplate yesterday
At umgeni steam railway
me as gordon* doesnt stop*
it's hereeee
Wow. Such story
I did a quick search and it seems the runaway engine in the second story was an LMS 'Jinty'. Judging by the date and the fact its set on the former SDJR, I imagine the 2-8-0 was a Fowler 7F built for that line specifically
The almost collision of this episode was the first time this show ever startled me.
Second time was Henry's crash 2 episodes later.
You need to check out about Duke the lost engine. The story is based on a train from South America.
And what about you cant win? Another duke story.
Oooh will you do one about Old Iron?
I think there is a story behind James and the trouble with trees, but that can be a later/future episode
I just wanna say something is that That The Thomas and friends series has had its crossover with the Hello kitty series (remeber the thomas land and hello kitty events look it up on RUclips) and hello kitty is own by sanrío so would it be crazy That Sanrío(a company That actually cares about its many franchises) would buy The rights to Thomas And Friends maybe then Thomas can finally go back to its glory days idk its just something I thought of from watching sanrío shows and thomas fan films
This was an episode that would get me up and jumping whenever it came on because of Percy and Gordon. For the second story, I'm suspecting that the engines involved would have been an LMS Fowler Class 3F Jinty and a S&DJR 7F. I think to anyone who hasn't watched this episode, when they think Runaway Train they think of the movie Unstoppable (2010) which was based off of the CSX 8888 Incident.
With the number of 7620, it's likely the 0-6-0T at Radstock was a Jinty.
Oh boy here we go
Do some more crashes like percy takes a plunge, break van, a close shave and percy james and the fruitful day
I'm positive that the 1466 story inspired it, that is like... Dead on to the story of Percy Runs Away
Not exactly train related, but it might make an interesting video. You could go over the fact that there wasn't just one Fat Controller but three separate Fat Controllers during the book series, all of whom were directly related to each other with the last Controller in the series being Sir Topham Hatt's grandchild Steven in "Toby and the Stout Gentleman". I just recently found this tidbit out and I'm still reeling from it.
I’m eating breakfast while watching this
I hope I can get to see The True Story of Buzz Buzz.
These two real life stories made me scared a bit.
2:12 hmmm I think Should know a train with a face kinda like a human can move freely but for engines with faces they need drivers to watch out for them
That 0-6-0 blue tank engine was used for day out with Thomas
Is Thomas comes to Breakfast based on a real life event? That's one of mg favourites.
Yes
I loved when George Carlin narrated thomas the tank engine.
Did you know, in the British dubbing of that episode, they used Thomas’s whistle in place of percys by accident.
Oliver runs away 2:51 Thomas? Runs away 3:15
kinda sad how im 15 and a freshmen in high school and im still watching some good ol' thomas the train
Pretty G if you ask me man. 👌
The real story of James wooden brakes and the cars
Do a true story (s) of Duke the lost engine
I just said that! : )
about the exact same time as well
What was you can’t win based on?
My dvd of the first season is basically scratched so out of all the episodes..this is the main one that i cant see anymore through my dvd- Just my luck-
Can you imagine being 1466’s crew after that all went down? That whole situation must have been hilarious in hindsight.
I can’t imagine the look of the fireman and driver when they realize.. 😭😂
What always confused me as a (very) little child was the end of the episode where it's stated that Percy ran into a bank of earth and finally stopped. Now 2 year old me who took everything literally at the time always got confused by this because when I heard the word bank, I would think of an actual building, not just a pile of dirt. 😆
STEAMROLLER NEXT please!
Hey TrainBoy heard of the True Story of Dirty Objects/James in A Mess?
Oh god in the intro Percy really REALLY Died poor little engine
If there is a real life version can you do the crash from Special attraction with bulstrode
