And there really baked not in a overly sugary salty sauce..
I love beans since a child
I love all beans
I think I need this in my life. Link, recipe, method please?
Mr.bean included?
I always admire the ingeniuty of such production processes.
Eaten a cold can of baked beans nearly everyday fir the past 10 years for lunch, cheap and delicious, no mess. Just wash the spoon afterwards.
Thanks for sharing Adam.
Adam Sincock and this is why u have no visible jawline sodium boy
Does your home smell like stale farts?
Which spoon is best? Teaspoon, dessert spoon, soup spoon, tablespoon, wooden spoon, or big spoon?
I ate baked beans with cheese to this video it was amazing, great product!
Great video.
I love baked beans.
My favourite...the baked bean toasted sandwhich. Butter the bread, DOUBLE cheese slice, a bit of pepper and toast until browned and that is the way of the student. I don't get sick of that meal
Beans on soylinseed bread. season with salt, pepper, chili flakes and Paramagnon
It's also a legendary meal before you go out on the town. Enough carbs, fibre and fats to slow digestive traction and as a result, reducing vitamin and mineral loss though large amounts of alcohol. The fats and fibre also make it less likely to make you feel nauseous when you're on the sesh. Also helps avoid a hangover the next morning if timed right.
Can you tell I'm a biological food scientist? 🤣
Watching this while eating a bowl of baked beans for breakfast.... :-) yumz
Get a bagel...
Beans, beans, the musical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot 💨
The more you toot 💨, the better you feel.
So let's have beans with every meal.
Beans beans, good for the heart.
The more you eat the more you fart, the more you fart the more you eat. The more you sit on the toilet seat.. 😅
lol
I've been drinking bean juice for years from canned beans, had to know finally if they were cooked and heated in the cans with the plastic liner so thanks, no more bean juice for me. Why can we not avoid heat and plastic coming together in this society? Plastic itself is one thing but heating it with food inside is something industries can't seem to understand the negative effects of.
The cans have a plastic liner? How'd you know that? Also why on earth were you drinking bean juice lmaoo
I’m Mexican so I’ve always just had pinto beans that are boiled in a pot with seasoning and herbs, sometimes refried with lard.
But lately I’ve gotten into trying baked sweet beans and I have them regularly now as well. It’s neat to see how they are made since I don’t make them myself.
Beans are a magical fruit! The more you eat, the more you toot!
From the U.S.? or is this universal?
Yummy! Feel like beans tonight.
Your comment makes me wanna cry :( i cant handle cute things and this well i cant T-T
As a consumer of Bush's
Baked beans, I love the can
of maple/hickory. Keep in mind, LOTS of CARBS.
(I use Eckridge polska Kielbasa, slice each piece into 1/3" & spread out in my air fryer, 8 min. @ 330°
then toss with the very hot Bush's Baked beans.)
Yuuuuuum. 👍🏻 🇺🇲
I’m in love with those beans they make me so happy like damn
I pressure can homemade maple-bacon beans in mason jars. Its a very similar process. Things have to be done correctly to get a product that tastes right, with the right texture and that is safe to eat. Food and cookingis really a science and an art!
i love beans, straight from the can with a spoon
Home made are also great 👍🏻
0:01 what I said when I watched killer bean
I ate so many baked beans the quilt was on the ceiling 💨
I;m always thinkin of thos beans 😊
If there are bugs in the beans at least they are dead!
Bonus protein!
I stopped buying baked beans when I saw the sugar content and just eat tinned mixed beans now (chickpeas, kidney, borlotti etc) ..wondering if I got that wrong?
Good question Neal. We will ask Clare for you.
No, absolutely right!! And I make sure I rinse my canned beans too, to get rid of the sugar and salt they add to those, too.
Very health food. 🤩🇿🇲 Beans is my favorite.
Our South African cans are not designed for random snacking which makes so mad. That convention "on the go open" function is what society needs.
Eating can tin goods gives me excessive muscle cramps, haven't had can goods in my house for at least 2 or 3 years = no leg cramps. Could someone tell me why? Does tin leach in can during cooking process?
Probably excessive salt. Most of them have a lot of salt added and some sugar too. Find ones without it, or cook it in your own.
very interesting
While I appreciate the convenience and variety that canned foods bring to our tables, the topic of packaging safety, especially concerning BPA (Bisphenol A) in can linings, cannot be overlooked. Studies have raised concerns about BPA’s potential health effects, including its impact on the reproductive system, brain function, and behavior in fetuses, infants, and children, as well as possible links to cardiovascular issues among adults. It’s encouraging to see a shift towards BPA-free packaging by many brands, mindful of these health risks. I believe that consumer safety is paramount, and transparency about the type of can lining used is crucial for making informed dietary choices. Providing clear information on whether cans are BPA-free or if alternative safe materials are used helps consumers minimize their risk exposure. It’s an important step I hope to see more food producers take, ensuring the health and well-being of their customers is a top priority?
So we all were just eating beans high one day and came here 😂
The massive engineering is amazing.
Made in America 🇺🇸
What is the type of the bean? Here on Brazil I have not seen this one. And here we dont eat bean like that. We always buy beans in natura and cook them at home for lunch.
Hello Beanca Atticus in Brazil! These are navy beans.
They are also called haricot beans.
In India we have kashmiri beans, they are dark red color extremely delicious if cooked traditionally. However one thing i noticed is the beans cooked in traditional way do not give me bloated feeling, stomach issues and farts where as the canned beans do. Maybe it's the beans themselves or production process.
@@Tate525 You mean Rajma? They are not Kashmiri beans... They were introduced to to India by French back in 1860 and became popular decades later. Nothing traditional or Kashmiri about them. Tomatoes and apples aren't Indian either.
If the beans are cooked in the cans at the factory, then does that mean it is okay to reheat the beans by putting the can directly above the stop top without using a pot or pan? I was always afraid to do that because I was afraid of heating up the plastic inner lining and releasing the hormone-disrupting chemicals that is in all plastics. But if that is already being done at the factory then it really makes no difference then.
This is really yummy
Does the BPA from the can seep into the food? Or is the can BPA free?
Bpa free lining is the way to go
@six pence what chemical is that ?
Delicious. And way healthier than a bag of chips. Will leave you full all day
Try them all, even experiment cooking your own recipes. But I've never enjoyed baked beans as much as I enjoy Bush's Baked Beans from the USA.
I believe you. This looks like a very basic "recipe" with most likely a lame taste. The process is just wrong. They cook them for too long and waste the soup (water). They waste the beans into a garbage bin later on top of that. They should pressure-cook them for 30 minutes to really preserve nutrients, use the water to make the sauce and I dont see any oil, no fried onion except the spice mix.
I have just finished a similar can - it's beans in diluted ketchup with sugar.
Nothing comes close to that pot of Chilli beans on onion and garlic with cheese I slowly made on fire. Not even my pressure-cooked home alterations. The water must be boiled down period!
So what kind of beans are used to make the baked beans?
Haricot beans
I think it’s small white beans.
Also NAVY beans thats what I use ( l usualy make my own and yes they ARE baked as in Boston baked beans for about 7hrs at 250 deg. F. , I cut my use of sugar about in half of the recipe to me it tastes better that way!!
Just ate beans :)
Beans ftw!
What brand?
All brands! These factories will apply any label you want and more often than not it's the exact same product.
Does it have sugar? They are mostly sweet tasting
Linnet Mbotto yes it does have refined sugar unfortunately. I make my own baked beans with my own tomato paste, natural fruit extract like date , fig etc and freeze them in individual portions .
@@nicomedia62 That's good. Hey! just out of curiosity are you from Zanzibar? I am Tanzanian so a curious.
What type of beans are they? Kidney, lima, black, ???
If you're anything like us at ABC Science, baked beans and tinned tuna have become a recent lunch favourite. Have you found yourself eating more canned food lately?

Dis video cured many ppl depression👍
Is this video sponsored by a baked bean company? Because maybe it'd be different if it was sponsored by a donut company
eatin this watchin beansss
i love beans
Contrary to belief, the beans are not baked, but cooked in water. I love Baked beans though and there is a song to go along with it. Baked beans are good for the heart, the more you eat, the more you fart, the more you fart the better you feel, so eat baked beans for every meal!
Lectins anyone? I wasn't expecting the information on pressure cooking temperature, good to know.
Pressure cooking beans removed all lectins. Also, you should soak overnight and rinse and change the water at least twice to get rid of the stuff that causes gas. America’s Test Kitchen has a video on this. When we do this cooking method we don’t experience tummy pains and the beans are delicious.
I'm allergic to baked beans, because they instantly cause me to catch a cold.
Eh, one minute we were watching beans in water, next the sealed can rolls off the production line? Is that it? Seriously lacking in detail.
if only sigourney weaver here devoted that much enthusiasm to something people gave a sht about
*B E A N S*
The thickness is because of the sugar. That’s a lot of sugar.
Beans beans the magical fruit, the more you eat the more you'll toot
I like beans
Just had small can of SPC of Bake Beans it's only beans I have
wieners and beans on toast ! mmm grew up eating lots of beans
Everyone has a few cans of beans in the cupboard.
For one they ADD synthetic Vit C and just the plastic inner lining of the can when heating voids any beneficial " nutrient " u'd get from this. Was a nutritional value for this done? how much if any is absorbed by the body . You stated "dried beans " are "highly nutritious not baked beans in a can.
No they don't and no it doesn't.
NothingWrong WithThisName those beans are still nutritious! Even when they are cooked in a can. My husband is a vegetarian, he’s a big ol’ fella, I don’t keep him alive by feeding him unhealthy food. Baked beans are a great way to make sure he gets enough protein.
Some people just love to moan and be negative!
the question is what kind of beans are they using
Haricot beans
I'm only here as I'm eating beans and cheese on toast.
When were the beans actually "BAKED"?
david
it used to be baked in tomato sauce. now it is cooked while inside the metal can
Traditional way of baking them was in a clay pot left in the local bakers oven over night that's why they are called baked beans. They are now cooked inside a can but the texture and taste is very close so the name carries on.
who thinks beans come with too much sauce and too few beans ??
I'm really surprised that there's no mention of the high levels of sugar and salt in baked beans!! The beans themselves are great nutritionally, but the sauce they're in? No way!!
It's worth reading the article that accompanied this video:
www.abc.net.au/news/health/2020-04-25/baked-beans-an-unlikely-nutrition-star/12176974
It talks a little about the importance of sugar and salt to the cooking process and reduction of microorganisms. That aside, I know that people are concerned about the levels of sugar and salt in foods. There is, of course, a reduced salt version of baked beans. As a vegetarian, and one who eats baked beans only occasionally, I'm happy with the occasional bump in my dietary salt and sugar.
I rinse mine - washing off the sugary tomato sauce
yeah, I know, that's the tastiest bit :(
You rinse your's from tomatosauce? Perv!
Why do the baked beans make me see colours?
so now canned food is healthy?
So ... how to they assure that each can has the obligatory piece of pork fat (maybe that's a different brand, 'eh mate?)
give me beans
So, baked beans are actually not baked but cooked in juices.
Healthier , yes ... but better than 🍩 ? 😂😂😂
Who is baked ???
BEAN
I always found them disgusting, but now that I know it's made with tomato and is full of nutrients, I can't wait to try them again.
Healthy food in cans is pretty counter-intuitive. We tend to think 'fresh' is best. Thanks for sharing Eugene. Good luck for the next spoonful.
@@ABCScience You're welcome.Thank you also.
Maybe you might enjoy making a video about the chemistry of food preservation, and it's impact on nutrients. It could cover the question: After nutrients break down, are they no longer nutrients?
After that, you could do a video frozen food.

@@ABCScience Great! Thanks!
As a followup, I want to point out that I looked over various cans of beans with tomatoes [since not all of them were labelled as baked beans, and some of the baked beans cans showed images of meat and no red color and had no indications of tomato], and none of them had vitamin C, and were not abundant in iron. Dried split peas on their own were more abundant in both. I'm Canada, and I looked at products in Real Canadian Superstore on King George Blvd in Surrey, BC.
Are you able to get official nutrition facts for the products that the professor in the video spoke about?
Before this video, I looked over nutrition facts for Canada [which is based on US information] for all important food that I eat, so that I can ensure that I get the cheapest sources for all vitamins [including B5 & B12] and other important nutrients. I constantly carefully measure each ingredient [unless it is cheap; in that case, I eat more]. My family doctor [normal doctor; not alternative health] repeatedly says that my annual blood results are better than average.
I'm not trying to brag. I'm trying to say that I actively search for the advice of standard experts, and I put the advised effort in. If you could follow up on the professor's [i.e.: the woman in the video] claim of vitamin C by looking up Australian nutrition facts of baked beans, then I would be really grateful. If she is correct. Then it must be the cooking technique.
I could use your Australian info to create my own recipes, and pass it on to our own corporations. I'm a nobody, but they might actively listen.
Canned baked beans are way to sweet and to me taste disgusting. I like my savory foods to taste like savory foods not desserts. Milld chilli beans that Coles used to make were my favourite canned beans, but for some inexplicable reason they discontinued them. So sad.
Everytime I watch one of these videos on how food is mass produced they show you like the first step then start throwing a bunch of random "cool looking" shots and talking about random details over it. I think it's designed to confuse you. They didn't explain a single thing about how the sauce is made. They just say yeah we boil the beans and then here's a few facts about the sauce and oh here's the finished product! Wasn't that fascinating! 🤓
i feel like only americans and australians will understand this
Nah, any commonwealth nations would understand this too, since baked beans are made popular by the British in the 20th century as part of a mainstay of a full English breakfast.
They need to start making sugar-free baked beans
But they aren’t baked. Where does the name come from????
They are baked. Baked in the can.
Traditional home cooked Baked Beans are baked directly in the classic covered ceramic beans pot(similar to a Korean Hot Pot) with the tomato sauce(or whatever sauce you use) over a naked flame(including campfires, stovetop gas or fully baked in an oven) and slow cooked for hours. You can use a home pressure cooker to cook the dish too.
Canned baked Beans are baked directly in the can using pressure cooking, then you finish the process yourself at home when you reheat.
They're Baked.
@@colliric hey that makes sense, thanks for explaining that lol
great! now i want some beans! haha
BEANS 2:55
beans
HOW IT`S MADE: Farts
beans for breakfast, farts for lunch
WoW, Ive never timed it... I am going to after reading your comment.
Why are they called baked beans? They are cooked!
They are baked in the Can.
The traditional version of the Dish is Slow cooked and required the use of a special covered ceramic bean pot with a lid (similar to an Asian Hot Pot!), and slow cooked over a naked flame for hours, or cooked by putting it straight into hot coals or in modern times pressure cooked. The Pot acts as an oven, and bakes the beans. The Pot is also directly the serving bowl, and is shaped like a bowl(once again similar to a Asian Hot Pot)
Canned Baked Beans simply replaces the ceramic bean potbowl with the can itself.
The beans are baked, in the can itself which acts as a makeshift pressure cooker. The beans are NOT boiled.
Canned baked beans healthy?? Full of sugar in cans containing potentially dangerous chemicals for example. Don't get me started on the tomato sauce. I doubt there is much vit c left in this industrial mix... yes beans are great but they are better when you cook them yourself from scratch with fresh ingredients. That's when you reap the benefits. Industrial processed food is not nutritious.
Share your Baked Bean recipe then so that we can all find out how to make them your way.
*as nutritious
lol

They do not need advertising any more. They bean around for decades now.
that dietician look anemic af low calorie life style
And your spelling is atrocious!
@@Blackheathenly at least u hade the carbs to determine that
So the canned baked beans aren't baked at all!
I didn’t know baked beans are cooked inside the can. That steam must leach chemicals into the food from the can.
Beans need to be cooked for 3 hours more
Under what conditions? Room temperature and pressure? Controlled high temperature and pressure? Direct heat? Indirect heat?
There's so many factors affecting the cooking process, so it's not always a must for that 3 hours or more nonsense.
FOREVER under the carpet . . .
You have to clean them because you don't know where they've bean.
They do know where they've been - dry packed in a warehouse for months, with potental leftover contaminants from the harvesting & processing. You should wash all your vegetables & rinse all your grains before cooking no matter where they come from. They wash them because they 'do' know where they come from.
@@InnuendoXP It was just a dumb pun. Look at the spelling of bean.
