    Those are lovely. I wonder why they didn't ever get a more automated way of stopping road traffic when they crossed but love the parallel cycle routes.

      When the this section of track was still in daily use as a regular railway almost al the crossing had some form of automated warning. But they were taken out at a later point. There are still 5 crossing with warning lights and bells along the railway, 3 of which fully automatic. They were mostly placed there due to them being high traffic areas. The others are less busy and a guard with a red flag or even just ringing the bell is enough. The main reason as to why there are not more is because they are expensive and not really necessary because most crossings are not to big or busy. And the trams basically only run on Sundays.
