Learning even just the basics of a language of a country such as Thailand will get you lots more respect from the locals and leads to all sorts of experiences you normally would miss out on otherwise. It certainly changed my life.
I REALLY recommend taking the 100 Day Thai Challenge with Kru Fah. I wanted to surprise my Thai girlfriend who doesn't speak much English so I signed up for Kru Fah's class. I visited Thailand after about the first 50 lessons and my Thai girlfriend was very happy, and her friends were also very impressed. After finishing all 100 lessons, communicating with my Thai girlfriend is much easier.
@@geeb3376 I'm sorry, but you're wrong. $500 for 100 lessons and access to Kru Fah is a million times better than what you might learn on YT. Before I took her course, I might have agreed with you, but I have tried to learn Thai on my own and I have taken Kru Fahs 100 Day Thai Challenge, and there is no comparison. Trying to randomly learn Thai on YT as compared to a structured Thai language course is a waste of your time.
@@matthewmasur6749 Thanks, Matthew. Pia is really happy. Just today she complimented me on my Thai again after our video chat. Even though I finished all my lessons, I still have access to all the video, the Quizlet flashcards, and the entire lesson book (which is a downloadable PDF), so I continue studying by reviewing. I was a little skeptical at first, but after all is said and done, I'm really glad I took the 100 Day Thai Language Challenge.
I'm moving here to retire in December. If my retirement visa process is ultimately unsuccessful, this statement will be irrelevant: I plan to spend the remainder of my life in Thailand paying forward what you are teaching all of us on this channel. These videos are a gift and it will be my honor to do so. You appear to appreciate shown gratitude rather than spoken appreciation, so I'll dive back in to the learning!
Trying to teach myself some Thai I managed to get around 80% of this right, without anyone to practice with stitching sentences together is still a huge challenge for me.
Wow, you're really getting better at this. Now would be a GREAT time to learn how to read and write in Thai. It will help with your pronunciation immensely as you will actually be able to "see" the tones. Your existing lexicon will really help with this process. Keep up the good work!
I absolutely wish it was as simple as just memorizing the words, but the killer is that if you don't get the tones just right, you'll still likely not be understood by thai people regardless if you know the actual word. That is incredibly frustrating, but you got to start somewhere. Me and a thai woman reviewed a single word (maa) in multiple tones and it took at least 45 minutes before I got it right, even though the entire time I was positive I was saying it exactly like she was. Today, according to google translate, I am still unable to properly say the english word "horse" (maa, high tone) in thai language. Keep trying or give up. I choose to get trying.
Khun Chris coconut is full of siam linguistics ... be replaying this vid a few times to catch the complete sentences... nicely done Chris,,,, obviously had a a great suay teacher....555
Excellent video both entertaining and educational. I got more than half right (my Thai wife teaches me) but you were way too quick on some of them and I would have got a few more I think with a bit more time. Very enjoyable none the less !
Way to go! Nice session language training paying off: something thing I never take for granted. Fun teacher too, and her enthusiasm makes it easier to follow and learn. One of the reasons we return to Thailand so often! 🎉
Well done Chris. You're pretty good! I just finished learning the Thai alphabet a few days ago. It's a pretty funky alphabet. Next is to learn reading Thai. The bloody tone rules are killing me😂 After that, I'm going to go HARD with learning Thai properly. I'm looking forward to moving there in 2026. Thanks for the great video.
I totally emphasize with the brain cramps. I've made it through lessons 1-10 of Thai Language Challenge and it gives me a headache trying to remember. Being old sucks.
Bravo Chris and Fah for making learning entertaining and fun. We will most likely participate in the Thai Language Challenge when we come to Bangkok next month.
Greetings Chris Parker, congratulations on completing Kru Fah’s Thai language and sentence structuring challenge. I agree with you in that, Kru Fah is indeed an extremely beautiful Thai woman and surely a knight will indeed ask for her hand going forward. Thanks for sharing this amazing Thai language event and all the very best to you as well as Queen Kru Fah.
Sawatdee khrup! I can barely say sawatdee or khob khun without thinking I've mispronounced it and offended the person I'm saying it to because of intonation and slight nuances. But I am stoked to see your progress as I am enrolled on the next TLC.
OMG... I will have to watch this video 'some hundred' times ? Where is this copy-paste list ? By the way... Have you also learned the Thai alphabet or can you do it with 'imitative' western combinations? Sawadee ! ... All the best..
Chris, You are very good at thai language. Come gratulation for You! I test myselve and I forgot about 5 word so You are better than me. But I am better at speaking tones because I knew all the tones of all the words. Unfortunately, I live in Poland and I only learn Thai as a hobby, mainly for singing songs. I have only been to Thailand 3 times for 2 weeks and I practically do not know this beautiful country. But I like watching your films and when I go to Thailand, this knowledge will be very useful to me.
I'd like to learn Thai as well. and I have a question. "Can a student visa allow you to stay in Thailand more than 3 months?" It's kind of hard to get a straight answer to this one... Great video by the way! It's funny to see you Chris body language 🤭 a little kid back in class 🤭 Loved it ! Thanks !
Great job! Just be careful about saying the tones correctly. "Ma" can be pronounced many different ways - มา หมา ม้า ม่า หม่า -come (middle tone), dog (rising tone), horse (high tone), or mom (informal -falling tone), or as a consonant like in ประหม่า (low tone). You can see how the meaning of a sentence can completely change just by using the wrong tone! Most Thai people will get the meaning you intend to say from context, for example: "I'm going to ride my horse" rather than "I'm going to ride my dog".
5:56 Near klai (ใกล้ -falling tone) and far klai (ไกล -middle tone) often get mixed up. You pronounce it correctly at first but when you put it in a sentence it comes out as "far". Khru Fah will always encourage her students with a compliment which is typical Thai -even if they're not 100% correct. It's good for business to keep those students coming and makes the students like you!
Great job on the vocabulary, and nice video! I plan to share this video with some Thai learners... however, I would suggest trying to work on the proper tones! You're so close! Egg is ไข่ not ขาย for example. Cheers.

Good job man. This is what you do when you not only love Thailand, but also respects it.

$500 is way too expensive. You could have used YT to get all that for free.

Well.... Time to get a Thai girlfriend first then 😅
Nice work bro, I am sure she is super happy with you

Chris, I smiled while watching you crush this test! I’m impressed!
Always love watching your videos Chris. She’s a brilliant a teacher

Kru Fah needs to help Chris with his tones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yeah, nice to see him trying but the tones were pretty much non-existent.
I got a 95, but I'm not as fast as you Chris. I think those 100 words would get someone around Thailand pretty well. Good teacher!
Great vocab knowledge. Just gotta work on those tones now. Managed 98 myself.
Trying to teach myself some Thai I managed to get around 80% of this right, without anyone to practice with stitching sentences together is still a huge challenge for me.

Great idea. I like that Kru Fah forced you to do them fast and interspersed with example sentences to keep you on your toes.
Your vocab and ability to make sentences is superb wow!
You really should only focus on your tones, and then you're all set
เห้ยยยยย ลุงคริสแอบไปฝึกภาษามา ความจำสุดยอดมากๆครับ
What a lovely lady 🙏😊🇬🇧
I got 95 and haven’t spoken any Thai in about 10 years. I’m happy with that!

Good
