Minimally Invasive

  • Medicine has enthusiastically adopted minimally invasive procedures. Instead of biopsies, we do ultrasounds and MRIs. Instead of open surgery, we use laproscopic and endoscopic procedures. In this webinar, maintenance expert Mike Busch A&P/IA makes the case that we should also be using minimally invasive methods in the maintenance of our aircraft. Rather than tearing down an engine in response to metal in the oil filter, we can usually use a borescope to see what's going on inside the crankcase. Instead of pulling a cylinder to fix a burned exhaust valve or stuck piston rings, we can use minimally invasive methods that don't involve cylinder removal. Such minimally invasive procedures are not described in maintenance manuals or taught in A&P school, so mechanics and maintenance-involved owners need to educate themselves on these minimally invasive methods, techniques and practices. Savvy Aviation offers Professional Maintenance Services to owners of General Aviation aircraft, such as: SavvyMx (Professional Maintenance Management including Prebuy Services), SavvyQA (Expert Consulting), SavvyAnalysis (Engine Data Analysis) and Breakdown Assistance. Savvy also publishes a monthly newsletter with lots of interesting information for the general aviation enthusiast; subscribe to it at www.savvyaviat... text the word "Savvy" to 33777. This webinar was hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA).

This is the most important point any airplane owner needs to get a serious understanding on. This is gospel. Don't invade unless absolutely necessary.

BTW, a "liver flush" every few years will get these stones out before they can cause trouble.

There are a lot of people still new to this stuff…spaced repetition is both the best way to learn and to teach.

@@cambraicovers6259 ++ This right here. I know many of my generational peers have the opinion that something has to be presented recently to be credible.

I dont disagree that there is some repetition, however, critical information bears repeating and there are likely always new flyers and new listeners joining in who may not have been able to go thru the archived web casts.
And I'm sure constantly generating entirely new G/A maintenance material that's relative across all of general aviation is a tall order without getting into very specific type / model information.
I expect revisiting beneficial information occasionally may be especially helpful for some.
      Cheers.
