Ormoo is such a cool cat! Congrats on your 9th summit activation! Unfortunately, no summits where I live. SOTA ON!

Di, Much improved code! Ormoo is the greatest. Congrats on your 9th!

It looks like you had a nice day on the summit. I would never have thought about taking a cat hiking but Ormoo seems to really enjoy it. It's nice to see some younger hams out enjoying radio and the hills. If I were a bit younger I'd be out there too.

Nice job with the activation, and love seeing Ormoo! It becomes a lot more pleasant when you get over that hump of being intimidated by CW. 73 DE NT7S

My station manageress (as shown on my QRZ page) would like to QSo with your station manager!

Tnx fer comment, and Ormoo would happily swat a key for some long-path DX with your 2nd op. All kitties are good… but CW kitties are GREAT!

And in fed halfway antenna has a very high impedance at the frequency of use for example if you have a 20 m in fed halfway the impedance is probably around 2500. The radio wants the radio wants an impedance of about 50 ohms. If you have a 50 to one balance or in this case, many of these are 49 to one you can divide 2500 by 49 and get an impedance that’s about 50 which is what your radio expects. This prevents damage to the radio. It also allows for better signals.
    Sorry about the voice dictation.

I believe this comment is a misunderstanding as you are describing the unun at the feed point of the EFHW. A loading coil would be in the middle of the antenna. It would serve to physically make the antenna shorter but still be electrically the same length for proper resonance. This would be for something like a 40m long wire that’s also resonant on 20m,15m, and 10m. If you want to add some other bands to the antenna like say 30m or 17m you could add similar coils called traps. They have to be wound in a specific way. Or you could do a linked efhw where you can break connections along the wire to change its tuning for different bands.

Your 5th contact might not be valid: “9. QSOs with others within the same Activation Zone do not count towards the QSO total”. Regardless, congratulations on 9th summit and successful CW

Hey Brian - thanks for watching, and noting the oddness of my contact with Di! However, I believe it does count due to some off-camera magic: I was operating a remote Flex station. The rules haven't yet been updated for this exact scenario, but since it's nonsensical to imagine "activating" a mountain without carrying a radio with you... I think the contact would be a chase for me, and a normal contact for Di. Happy to start a discussion that might (eventually) end up clarifying Rule 4! Just in case it does fall foul of a rule, though... I waited to be contact 5 after the activation was in the books! -- Mark KD7DTS
"4. The Operating Position must be within the Activation Zone. The operating position must lie within a closed contour line at the permitted maximum Vertical Distance below the summit. (Typically the contour line is 25 metres below peak height of the summit). The Operating Position is taken to be the position of the operator."
