You should do an analysis of the AUKUS submarine deal with a focus on explaining the high cost of the deal. How prevalent is corruption in Australian defense procurement? 🤔
The costs for that submarine is not just to build the subs. It requires training workers, constructing the facility to build it and the upgrades for whereever the subs will be based.
Defence Minister KIm Beazley and his Australian National University advisiors, Hugh White and Paul Dibb were mainly interested in creating industry jobs and local defence against say Indonesia. Neither the Collins sub design or the Anzac frigate really in anyway could be regarded as fulfilling RAN Australian under the Anzus Treaty or Radford Collins or its Anzus Marsar updated agreement. The Anzac frigates unlike the River class and RNZN Rothesay and Leander are not effective cold water anti submarine frigates, with a high degree of silencing and ability to operate globally and in particular south of Australia escorting ship up on a back up route from the Indian ocean via Perth , Adelaide Bass and Fouveaux straight and in the Southern Ocean.
