Imagine if GCN or someone like that included actual manufacturing quality in their reviews. If they had a set of hambini go gauges they could pop the cranks off, slap a couple gauges on there and tell you straight up if the bottom bracket shell is good to go or not. Or if they had a jig to test if the axles are actually parallel/perpendicular to the ground. These are "givens" that really shouldn't be. Carbon layup is labor intensive and involves layering of materials and curing epoxy, it's not crazy to think that a BB shell could end up very slightly crooked during that process.
If they gave truthful reviews then they'd never get their free gear, advertising contracts, or kickbacks from manufacturers. GCN is as much a marketing firm as it is a creative firm.

Relieved to see Hambini back, I don't rate the princess blanket as highly as Hambini but it sure beats the princess who thinks she should set the rozzers onto him because she thinks being held to something close to the standards you expect of her male colleagues is somehow sexist. Between Hambini and Luescher Teknik there is so much good information on, and demystify of, the things to look out for in carbon frames and their interfaces that I hope they both keep up the good work. I don't mind the winding back of some of the language but I do think that the new scale of desirability could include a "prison toilet" tipping point on the less desirable side as a hat tip to a quality standard I will always associate with this channel.
Hambini aged 5. Excellent handling of MPrice😎😎😎😎 Think we need to have a conversation chart to convert to the old scale😎 Basically any industry that states a tolerance range and can't build and test to that tolerance deserves a good reaming and going out of business.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
the Rest of the world are really happy about your roastings . you tell us so important things that we never have noticed . like this : " the frame is black " whats the metter with you ? are you angry that you live ? every minute " fucking " or "shit " ! great social competence !
Nice to see Argon18 on the recommended side of the scale. Picked up a Dark Matter last summer and will be putting Ham's BB in just because when the current BB wears out.
I remember owning several Cannondales back in the nineties, you know back when they were made in the States. The bikes were beautiful and road perfect every time. When they moved their manufacturing, that was the last Canndale I owned.... I steadily hear more and more stories like these. Saddens my heart.
Somewhere in a dusty quiet factory corner, Old Sid/Zhang is still chipping away, the lone craftsman, working a 1/4 of the speed of everyone else....keeping the dream of rectilinear construction alive. Note: Recommend that particular Makita drill, very good and pretty cheap these days for what your're getting i.e. last drill you'll ever need buy.
I don't know how this frame ever got out of the factory. I work on a production line and we check everything. How hard is it to just put a gauge like Hambini's in the BB hole on every frame once it is finished.
Enjoyed this video - I think people are far too quick to criticise, you were pretty fair here in giving credit, BB should not have been released out of spec though. This video feels more productive than the old ones (which I still enjoyed, but felt this was better)
Informative video one again, thanks. Pity re Cervelo; my wife and I own six of them and she's being upset after several issues with her bottom bracket, and later fuming after your analysis video of the Cervelo. I've had no issues with my two Soloist aluminium bikes, but the carbon ones have disappointed. We'll be buying Looks henceforth.
Yoeleo R12 is manufactured by Lightcarbon. Other frames are usually a mix, of hongfu, dengfu, but Lightcarbon seems to be the main supplier for Yoeleo branded frames
Great video Hambini. So are you saying that the Hambini BB shell has been crushed slightly by the undersized NDS which then puts abnormal pressure on the bearings inside the shell causing premature wear? If so would your stiffer Race BB offer better resistance against undersized holes? Also, I can’t agree with Mr Price when he says that quality control in mass production is difficult, Shimano seem to do it and I think they churn out some stuff. Surely it’s the manufacturer that sets the tolerances and they are there to be met, if not why have them? If your business model works on mass production but you are not able to produce consistent quality that’s fine, just make the pricing commensurate with the quality you are able to produce. It’s unreasonable and unfair to charge 5 star prices for a 3 star product and this frame is supposed to be their flagship model. Keep up the great work.
Great stuff! I just wish people the comments section would stop referring to shit manufacturing as though it were a Chinese problem. The Chinese will easily make something as simple as a bike frame to well inside the necessary tolerances, provided it's ordered and payed for. The problem is European and American brand owners, and their customers.
The most fun and best riding mass market bike I ever owned was an orange and grey SuperX, but I had to replace the stock BB30 with a thread-together BB to make it work.
If you install both crank arms pointing the same direction you can run the bike in Big Bang mode. Most bicycles run 180 cranks, even firing. If you really want to get trick install the cranks 90 degrees apart and you have a good old fashioned, manly cross plane just like a good American V8.
@Hambini Thanks for infomative video. Just to make sure before I start changing bearings into PF30 bottom bracket, do I need to use any retaing compound between bearing and bottom bracket?
Great video as always. So I'm changing suspension pivot bearings on my MTB and got thinking, it is specced with ENDURO MAX bearings, where they ditch the ball cages and fill the bearing with as many balls as possible to better "carry load". Is this good, or shit? Am I better off with more balls in a poorer quality bearing or a properly made higher quality bearing? Given they would never do a full rotation. Cheers!
Hi I was wondering if you had worked on many bmc , with regards to the bottom brackets . I noticed on your list of good and bad manufacturers it wasn’t on any . I have a problem with my bmc crank creaking when stood up on pedals but on every other conditions it’s silent . By the way I think your videos are great , funny and educational and it’s great there’s a guy like you sorting these shocking problems with high end products
FWIW I had a SS Evo Hi-Mod and t-boned a car head on at 25mph/40kph and survived. My life flashed before my eyes and I thought the fork was gonna snap like a twig sending my body straight into the driver's seat. That being said the Ritchey alloy front wheel also survived and didn't even need truing. The frame ended up being warrantied because I found some pitting on the fork tube from the little compression part in the top of the headset. Cannondale warrantied it and I sold the new one. The bottom bracket never creaked but I guess I was just one of the lucky ones.
Awesome video, as usual. I do prefer the old scale I know but some people don't like the harshness of the phrases/words used. I'm glad you mentioned about line boring as I was thinking of the same lines in the last reaming video you posted. Just one thought on another possible way to fix the undersize hole, can you hone Carbon Fibre? I know the amount of area is quite thin but could you not use the other side to act as some sort of guide? 🤔
A quick question? Is the table of good v's bad manufacturers just based on having accurate tolerances, or are other factors taken into account, such as construction quality, finish quality, durability etc?
Hambini, when you're in the power point try going to the next slide before you change to a different window (like the web browser). That may save you from having to go through the previous slide's additional lines again. Don't worry about giving us a peek at the next slide. On an unrelated subject, could you post links to your now deleted/private videos on your website? That way they would still be accessible, albeit less conveniently. I think that's classified as unlisted.
This iteration of the SuperSix EVO employs Cannondale's proprietary, PF30A bottom bracket standard. There's an added 5 mil of width on the NDS, when compared to a standard 68 mm wide PF30 shell. Once upon a time, I had heaps of bb problems with one of these frames.
Have to agree with a lot of others. The old scale was better. Often the first words out of someone’s mouth are the truest. Be true to you. If people complain they don’t have to watch. No one is forcing them. You do you. If you are forced to change for reasons beyond your control aka legal or RUclips etc fair be it but I say be honest to you and don’t hide yourself. I know. Easier said then done sometimes.
Could you enlighten me on hongfu and dengfu? Have you had expieriences with these bikes? Cause it almost sounds to good to be true. What makes it that you recommend these bikes?
Check out some of his other videos to get an answer on this. In summary, he's found their bottom brackets to be pretty precisely aligned and within tollerances - much better than Cannondale, for example. Plus, they're cheap! Not sure if he's done void testing on Hongfu/Dengfu...
You can also fix such minor defects by sacrificing a BB and installing/uninstall it a dozen times. That will eat away even more evenly at the frame and a new BB will fit perfectly.
Sorry, it was meant to say Incompetence but I got it wrong and it says incontinence.
Pretty incompetent to put the wrong BB30 label on the bottom of the frame IMHO.

@@HamishRoake ah ok, do you know what the difference between the himod frames and the normal frames are? I imagine they use the same mould? Any chance that himod is assigned to a frame that scores higher on the quality control check? (Just like how different computer processors are usually cut from the same sheet etc)
@@jonathanc3443 himod frames have a different layup. There's some more higher modulus fibers, and some of the "standard" fibers removed. All in, 150-200g lighter.
The Black Inc frames are Himod frames that weigh under a certain amount.
@@HamishRoake the black inc frames are selected from the lightest Himod frames and also each one is inspected at Cannondale. The regular frames use batch sampling for QA so a much higher chance of getting a lemon
@hambini. I enjoy your roasting videos but I'm glad to see a better balance here. Toned down language with the new scale which is better whilst maintaining your first class engineering presentation. Well done sir 👍
You can't judge a whole production line just off one product. For all we know, that's the only fame that came out that good
nailed it ;-)
Quality Assurance. Basically measurements and other tests before allowing to go on to resale.
A basic go-nogo gauge can measure these quickly.
@RollinRat they can give a clue about it.
@RollinRat do a job long enough and you'll see it.
Unless you're like a co-worker who notices next to nothing until I come along.
I buy canondale CAAD13 on January 2020, first 100 km ride, it creack, i never care about BB before have a canondale bike, thx to them now i put a BSA BB is a must for my new bike, sell the canondale last month and will never go back, worst experience for me , i ride since 1995 and this is the worst bike i ever had
My boy is back!
So glad to see you back making videos. I was scared the cunts had won and made you start working for Boardman!!! What a nightmare
Yay, I was getting withdrawal from you. Also the new style is great, I prefer you being less crass.
I suspect he's somewhat like myself in that sometimes he just happens to feel more venomous and obnoxious than other times which conversely relates to the level of swearing and general shit giving present
Great to see you back with a new video Hambini. Keep telling it like it is. I actually prefer the old scale btw.
Glad you are back! Was worried that you had left YT. Take care
When you open the licorice can you eat it on a live stream. A Nordic colleague brings it in to the office watching people eat for the first time is great fun.
I have this exact frame color and model. Installed the bbinfinite and surprisingly it will stay there for infinity (friend of mine tried to replace it with another bb but after many many many effort to pull the bbinfinite out, it stay there not even a mm of movement). Thanks hambini. Now why i know why... i guess i will stick with the bbinfinite for infinity 😂
I worked in a shop and we dealt with the guys at CSG lots. I have to say they were a great bunch. The reps were super cool guys. Easy to deal with the warranty guys although they could be quite harsh.
I no longer work in the cycle industry but I’m happy to ride a Dale knowing how good the guys at CSG are.
Good to have you back brightened up the lock down for a spell awaiting a real good reaming hopefully in the near future. Have the tee shirts arrived yet
The "Hambini Scale" is much improved. Bravo!
Dude seems to know his stuff..respect
Good to see you back. Sorry to see the change of rating scale, will anything ever be as good as the blanket.
Excellent handling of MPrice😎😎😎😎
Think we need to have a conversation chart to convert to the old scale😎
Basically any industry that states a tolerance range and can't build and test to that tolerance deserves a good reaming and going out of business.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hambini never disappoints! Before they sold out, I was a big fan of C. Hambini makes our balls roll better!
WTF dude? Bring back the old scale!!
Hambiiiiiiiniiii. Love you mate. Keep up the good work.
the Rest of the world are really happy about your roastings . you tell us so important things that we never have noticed . like this : " the frame is black "
whats the metter with you ? are you angry that you live ? every minute " fucking " or "shit " ! great social competence !
Nice to see Argon18 on the recommended side of the scale. Picked up a Dark Matter last summer and will be putting Ham's BB in just because when the current BB wears out.
Good to see you back at it Mr Ballbearing!! 👍
In certain parts of France they spell Chuck Norris: H. A. M. B. I. N. I.
Perfect to watch over my lunch break
I remember owning several Cannondales back in the nineties, you know back when they were made in the States. The bikes were beautiful and road perfect every time. When they moved their manufacturing, that was the last Canndale I owned.... I steadily hear more and more stories like these. Saddens my heart.
The aluminum crotch rocket Cannondales from the 90s? C-dale Criterium comes to mind.
How hard is it to just put a gauge like Hambini's in the BB hole on every frame once it is finished.
the problem is that they would find the problem and have to fix it to throw out the frame... if they dont measure it then there is 'no problem'
Very informative, lockdown entertainment. Keep up the good work !
Inspires confidence when they have labelled it as BB30!
Bob Houghton Cannondale have aluminium cups installed in the frame which effectively makes it a bb30, but if you remove them you have got a pf30 frame
What is your confidence level: BB30
To the bottom of the scale you go!
Came for the roast, stayed for the rant. Good show!
Enjoyed this video - I think people are far too quick to criticise, you were pretty fair here in giving credit, BB should not have been released out of spec though. This video feels more productive than the old ones (which I still enjoyed, but felt this was better)
PC Hambini. PG rated hambini is Better than no Hambini. Keep up the good work Lad.!✔
I like a old scale 😂 but I can understand the change... Also Orbea seems to be missing of your like and dislike slide 🤣🤣🤣
Oh my god what a 🎁! 45 minutes of reaming from our beloved foul mouthed truth sayer Hambini!
Dayum. That is some industrial scale, reinforced sarcasm.
Yay! My favourite potty-mouthed engineer is back. Brilliant 👍👍👍👍
Finn McCool he’s not what?
I'm glad spiral entrance made your day 😂
Welcome back..i misee those huge hands my friend
If you install both crank arms pointing the same direction you can run the bike in Big Bang mode. Most bicycles run 180 cranks, even firing. If you really want to get trick install the cranks 90 degrees apart and you have a good old fashioned, manly cross plane just like a good American V8.
@Hambini Thanks for infomative video. Just to make sure before I start changing bearings into PF30 bottom bracket, do I need to use any retaing compound between bearing and bottom bracket?
that hello in the begging scared the hell out of me! almost fell from my bed. Get some some chill hambini my friend
I suspect this frame will have been made by Giant.
I am a Hambini fan !
hambini's videos are getting explicit by the day
Awesome video, as usual.
What makes it that you recommend these bikes?
check out www.durianrider.com. good quality chinese frames there!
Check out some of his other videos to get an answer on this. In summary, he's found their bottom brackets to be pretty precisely aligned and within tollerances - much better than Cannondale, for example. Plus, they're cheap! Not sure if he's done void testing on Hongfu/Dengfu...
Keep em coming, love your work. And, don't forget to place the chocolate on the PP chart in some video.
You can also fix such minor defects by sacrificing a BB and installing/uninstall it a dozen times. That will eat away even more evenly at the frame and a new BB will fit perfectly.
