Great video. Very informative. Recently got a S40. My climate control knobs are in the dark once the sun goes down and I'm fed up with it. First I fixed the sticky tacky issue with them and now I'm onto the bulb change task. Greetings and thanks from the US of A!
Thanks a lot for this video! Very Helpful, got my V40 2004 - a month ago and now i was looking for a good way to replacing these bulbs. Thanks a lot mate!
Cheers Guys. No the nights have drawn in, I'm feeling the need to do something about the lack of lights on the heater controls. Got the bulbs out nice and easy, thanks to your video. At over £8.00 a piece (???) for replacement bulbs, I think I will be going the LED route.
Thanks a lot for sharing this video, I've changed in lights buttons and that's great. Now, I'm looking for the long ones for the climate panel that appears over minute 5:30 in your video. Could you please let me know how the code to look for? Thanks again,
Super helpful! Thank you. I'll be saving money with your help. To be clear, you presented three unique bulbs for the center dash (T3, T4.2, and T4.7). When replacing the blubs, will it be clear which bulb goes into which recepticle? I suppose I could just compare each old bulb with the new bulb. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing. I have a Volvo S40 year 2006. Having a problem on desk board oil and RPM meter light burn. Hopefully could share the video on how to replace the light bulb if any. Mechanic says is a LED light board and have to replace the whole set of meter. Thanks
Hello Pedro. The ones I bought don't seem to be out there at the moment but there are similar ones: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10Pcs-T4-2-White-LED-Dashboard-Panel-Gauge-Light-Lamp-Bulb-for-Car-Interior/192345046069?epid=13007945811&hash=item2cc8a87c35:g:dWAAAOSwD5Za1xLn The quality can be a bit iffy - they are incredibly cheap. Through experimentation, I've found these type to be more reliable: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-Pre-Wired-LEDs-3mm-5mm-10mm-Various-Colours-Lamp-Wired-LED-9V-12-Volts-UK/262762466125?var=561727685962&hash=item3d2ddd0b4d:m:msbuQL6dZ29GnTzigX3LHgg I simply fitted these into the little plastic holders. Good luck with the job!
Hi thanks for posting. I've followed suit and replaced the lights on the headlight control panel. However whats the best way for removing the bulbs out of the holders for the ventilation system.
The original dashboard lights light up pale green, these are white. How much are they (I'll need to replace all of them) and what bulbs do I search for? Thanks.
Brilliant video. I have a Volvo S40 2004 mark 1, the same as your video test car. I would like to replace the bulbs with LED. What type/ size of bulbs are used in the lighting control panel? What type/ size of bulbs are used in the heating control panel? All advice will be welcome.
Hello and thanks for watching. You can find a full description of the bulbs here: spanneraddicts.com/dark-matters-led-dashboard-lights The ones in the heater controls are unique as far as I can figure. The best way is to buy some good quality 12v LEDs and then fit them into your existing bulb holders. Feed the wires through the holders and wrap them round the lugs on the base - this then makes the contact with the printed circuit board. Good luck!
i have a very big problem finding the exact led light bulbs in greece for my volvo s40 and all i can buy is the genuine.could u pls tell me where to find them.thanx
Hello! I'm in Portugal and i found your video because I have the same problem on my 2004 V40. Excellent video and excellent advice by the way but I have a question... After all, what is the correct size for the light switch and the climate block? Are all the bulbs T3? Thanks in advance and good luck for your channel and future projects
Hi please please please can you give us a clue on where you found and what are the white bulbs you used in the end. I can't seem to find them anywhere....

Hi, nice work on that video In my 2001 s40 I tried to fix it many times but led always dies and start to blink. It never last more than 2 months of daily use. Do you have the same problem or leds you have bought really works fine? Thanks!!!
The first set I bought were very cheap. They didn't last too long, so I used the mounted supplied mounts and fitted slightly more expensive LEDs - they've lasted well. I do wonder whether the rheostat has an effect on the longevity of the LEDs. One of these days I'll put that question to an auto electrician...

Nish Auluck To be honest, we have no idea. Always suspected it was something to do with allowing the system to monitor the temp in the cabin and adjust accordingly but someone out there might have the real answer... thanks for watching!
Yep that's the one. It's a sensor that measures the inside temp and adjusts accordingly (when in auto mode obviously). The small grille between the two rightmost knobs is where the hose is connected to and that's where it smells the temp.
The LEDs are only held in place by the wires - they're fed through the two holes in the base of the holder and then wound around the lugs (so they can make contact with the copper on the circuit board). It's a bit fiddly, but not hard to fit them.
@@SpannerAddicts Thanks for the reply! Is the a video available about this process? I'm kinda new with all of this, and to do this by myself fot the first time might not end so well :p
I liked this a lot as I did and am doing the same. Still waiting on my T4.2 for the light console. Did I understand correctly that you soldered LED’s into the plastic ‘holders’ (which are actually part of the light) of the three ACC lights? Because they are a pain to find (didn’t find LED replacements for them yet)! I bought my V40 without any functioning lights so it was a surprise for me to see what color everything would look. Not that you will still be looking 3yrs later (I hope). I just went to Volvo today, the long ECC bulbs are 30618412. They were asking £9.27 EACH!!!
