I love you reviews on every single base that you do! But I do have one small constructive criticism! I am blind completely, so therefore, when you do some of these side-by-side demos of different base guitars, I would wish that you would add which one you’re doing first and what you’re doing as far as changing the tone controls of the EQ, etc. etc. Such as this video when you did all nine pick up comparisons. You went from one to another which is great! But I got lost after a while, and I couldn’t figure out which one was which, and what you were switching to. If you mentioned which one you were switching to every time you did it, that would then help me out as to what I’m listening to! I know there’s other blind base musicians that would benefit from this video as well as all your other reviews! Thank you again for doing what you do! 7:37

Hey man, amazing review of all the pickup combinations on this bass. I use an M7 and it sounds almost the same. Really clear and useful explanation of all the mixes!
That has a few more configurations than my P bass. They all sound good. I really dig both pickups as single coils, or the neck pickup solo'd in series mode. Gets in the ballpark of a jazz bass, and a P bass.
Thanks Bizi! Indeed, Sire put together a really nice flexible instrument in which all the tones you get sound quite solid. There really wasn't one that I would turn my nose at or thing sounded bad or gross.

I like both my P10 and M5 neck pickup. I love the flexibility of the M5, but the P10 P pickup sounds great as well. My biggest criticism of the P10 in general is that it's a P7 in a fancy suit, and the P7 is no slouch by any means.
@@LowEndLobster Thanks to your video and written advice, today I bought M7 ash. Actually I went to buy an M5 in the local shop, but there was a special offer of M7 today at $700, used to be displayed on the show window but still new; then I got it!. This is so~ versatile; I think it can copy 70% of Musicman stingray with both parallel pickup, 60% of Jazz bass with single both pickup and 50% of Precision bass with neck pickup series. Neither can be that much good as the original but the sounds of each mode are not bad at all :) The weak point of this bass to me seems to be a little bit lacking in the sound of clarity; a little bit unclear, or muffled... But I can handle it with changing EQ in my amp. This a great bass, though. Once again, thank you so much for your thorough review, which helped me a lot!
Lobster I'm in a position where I need to buy either the m5 or the m7, I've seen all the RUclips videos but both sound so similar and it might be the tone myth talking here but I can't seem to choose one. Which one would you recommend?
Hey Aspyr! Same electronics as M7 in the M5, so this video can apply to both. I don't own and haven't reviewed an M7 yet but I'm hoping to snag one at some point :)
@@LowEndLobster Hey, I just wanted to let you know that I tried the M7, however even at 40% discount, I find it to be lacking. The body and the finish is good, pots seem good, neck is kind of difficult, to be honest, I've played Fenders that are more comfortable than that, it feels stiff and it's not fast like, say, Cort B4 is for example. I am not impressed by tonal versatility, however it does cut nicely in the mix, I played Jamiroquai and Iron Maiden, as well as some slap and tapping, the electronics are good, however in passive mode it's just SO QUIET, it's such a tiny sound that even when I maxed volume on my interface, it was nearly whisper quiet, which I'm not a fan of because I kinda wanted to rely on passive, rather than active mode. Neck is satin, which I'm not a fan of, tuners feel comfortable, they seem to be more lightweight than the ones one might find on an Ibanez, but at first glance they seemed okay! The finish of the bass is good, no imperfections, top notch quality control, out-of-the-box tuning experience wasn't too terrible, slight adjustment was necessary, however the truss rod lid with 3 screws made that a very unpleasant and slow experience. All in all, I'm writing this to let you know that you didn't miss anything and that you shouldn't bother trying the M7, it's definitely not worth the money, it's a $350-ish bass, the fact that they ask $900 for it begs only one question - WHY? Frankly, after examining it closely, I can't see why, the wood was a high cut, it was light, therefore not expensive, and frankly the name alone isn't worth the extra money, not by a long shot. However, IF people at Sire listen to what the customers have to say, I think 3rd generation could be the real deal, they really need to go easy with those prices though, it's a bit ridiculous. To compare the M7 to a V7, I'd say V7 takes the win, it's more comfortable and it has a much bigger sound, however I do remember it being body-heavy, really stopped the blood flow in my leg that one, LOL! Hope that helps you, Lobster! Cheers
Agreed 100%. It's almost like the Apocalypse paired with the cluttered Sire preamp. I think it works better in this package and form factor as opposed to something like a J bass.
It's ok. I bought the M5 as first guitar. I basically keep the knobs in their default position, and I use the switches to switch between "jbass" and "pbass" kind of sounds. You're right that I don't understand half of the settings, but it also doesn't bother me. As a newbie I have the benefit that it also doesn't really matter. At my level of play, there is no "wrong" configuration, the M5 sounds amazing in any mode.
hey, so I've got a pretty good offer for a ray35 and am currently researching a couple of basses. Is the ray THAT heavy? I've read something from 4.9 kg which is pretty heave for me, coming from an Ibby sr505. I want something with a nice thicc B and character but without neck-breaking weight or cost. Could you help me maybe?
Hey John Bob, weight can vary from example to example of the same instrument. My Ray34 was 11 lbs, and my buddy has one in the same wood/finish that's 9 lbs. I have no doubt it'll sound great, however the Sire V5 5-er will have a 35" scale neck, 24 frets, and more pickup options. It depends on what you're after but both are great options.
Help please! My M7 v2 bridge pickup doesn't output anything when in series mode, otherwise everything else is fine! Can anyone tell me what wires i need to check? I have and know how to use a voltmeter and check resistance Edit : it's a brand new bass but I can't send it back!
Heyo! I'd check the wires on the switch. The top or bottom pair of lugs should be connected to each other (one of the pairs, not both!). Join our discord channel and the folks on there will do their best to help (myself included)
My friend was asking if its actually make sense to pay extra $150 for just aesthetics I then replied with simple "no, i dont think so" then he bought the M5 and happy about it Then 2months later i bought my M7 and he then ask again why, i said "yes it does" and left
Nice sounding versatile bass, but they must fire the person who designed that headstock (In fact, this applies to all their series)! The only thing at the design of Sire basses that is not "borrowed" from other companies is the headstock, and they did a terrible job. However, basses sound good.
@@LowEndLobster i totally agree...the sire does sound amazing...and youre right a lot do have options that are useless. Im glad Sire is putting forth options that actually have a positive affect on tone..even if you need a cheat sheet taped to the back of the bass lol jk

I have and know how to use a voltmeter and check resistance
Edit : it's a brand new bass but I can't send it back!
Heyo! I'd check the wires on the switch. The top or bottom pair of lugs should be connected to each other (one of the pairs, not both!). Join our discord channel and the folks on there will do their best to help (myself included)
@@LowEndLobster thank you so much! I'll look into it with your advice and join de discord.
I like this better than the M7, it looks better to me...
Thanks BP!
Take a shot every time lobby sez 15
XD
Sorry lobster
How tall are you? 6'3?
Why do all basses looks so small
6'2" heh
I notice the M7 has a scarf joint, the M5 does not.
Interesting, I didn't notice that! Thanks for pointing this out
My friend was asking if its actually make sense to pay extra $150 for just aesthetics
I then replied with simple "no, i dont think so" then he bought the M5 and happy about it
Then 2months later i bought my M7 and he then ask again why, i said "yes it does" and left
Nice sounding versatile bass, but they must fire the person who designed that headstock (In fact, this applies to all their series)! The only thing at the design of Sire basses that is not "borrowed" from other companies is the headstock, and they did a terrible job. However, basses sound good.
First comment!! Woo
WOOO!
"Not bad."
XD
sometimes...there's too many options..lol
There are a lot. Luckily the options here are all great sounding. I've definitely had basses with a lot of options and half of them being useless
@@LowEndLobster i totally agree...the sire does sound amazing...and youre right a lot do have options that are useless. Im glad Sire is putting forth options that actually have a positive affect on tone..even if you need a cheat sheet taped to the back of the bass lol jk
I think... Neck pickup Series, Both pickup single + single, single + series, bridge pickup parallel tones are fine and useful.
Good but you should have spent 1 min explaining series, parallel, and single-coil modes.
There is such a thing as too many options.
Indeed! This definitely has em... at least they're good options haha
This bass sounds awesome. Is it now your favorite Sire bass up to date? Or do you stil prefer the V5?
Great question! I have a hard time deciding between my Sires hahaha. I LOOOOVE my P10, V5 fretless, and V7 'Siredowsky' (Sadowsky preamp, V7 vintage pickups). The M5 is a great and super flexible instrument too. I actually liked this one so much I'm snagging a 5 string M7 :)
@@LowEndLobster Then I have to check your P10 review too-:) Just to give you a harder time, what would be your 5 best picks among all the basses under 1000$ you reviewed until now?
@@Shitsurei-ib2no You're not the only one who has asked me to do a vid like that. I definitely will!
@@LowEndLobster Cool!
