    "After I became president, I asked my escort to go to a restaurant for lunch. We sat down and each of us asked what we wanted.
    On the front table, there was a man waiting to be served. When he was served, I said to one of my soldiers: go and ask that gentleman to join us. The soldier went and conveyed my invitation to him. The man got up, took his plate and sat down right next to me.
    While he ate his hands trembled constantly and he did not lift his head from his food. When we finished, he said goodbye without looking at me, I shook his hand and he left.
    The soldier told me:
    Madiba that man must have been very ill, seeing as his hands didn't stop shaking while he ate.-
    Absolutely no! the reason for his trembling is another.
    Then I told him:
    That man was the warden of the prison where I stayed. After he tortured me, I screamed and cried asking for some water and he came humiliated me, laughed at me and instead of giving me water, he urinated in my head.
    He is not sick, he was afraid that I, now president of South Africa, would send him to prison and do to him what he did to me. But I'm not like that, this conduct is not part of my character, nor of my ethics.
    ′′Minds that seek revenge destroy states, while those that seek reconciliation build nations. Walking out the door to my freedom, I knew that if I didn't leave all the anger, hatred and resentment behind me, I would still be a prisoner."
    - Nelson Mandela.

    This makes sense why one of my childhood friends who has danced professionally in ballet and modern companies as well as on broadway all the way through her early 60's has the body and face of a 29 year old. She "works out" every day as part of her dance routine and has never been a big eater. On a separate note, Dr. Greger, are you advising people to use Metformin if they do NOT have diabetes?

    • @oskariKN25
      @oskariKN25 3 дня назад +1

      People cannot just get metformin without diagnosis for diabetes or other eligible diseases. Also he did not, he made a case of the fact how AMPK activation is beneficial for longevity.

      @@oskariKN25 I am aware of the fact that a diagnosis is needed. Dr. Greger mentions Metformin towards the end of the video as an AMPK activating drug without going further regardinng his thoughts, opinions, etc. I was asking Dr. Greger the question but thank you for answering for the doctor.

    Isn't metformin a mitochondrial inhibitor?

    • @greggbambu411
      @greggbambu411 4 дня назад +1

      The stress it puts on the mitochondria turns on ampk. In biology, a little stress seems to provoke an anti aging response

    • @anandpbgupta
      @anandpbgupta 4 дня назад

      @greggbambu411 That is self-contradictory. Metformin is not good for you because it inhibits the mitochondria function. Check Dr Peter Rogers MD's RUclips video 'Are your mitochondria inhibited'.

      I am not one for amateur doctor drug recommendations but in multiple studies Epicatechin has been shown to improve mitochondrial health, function and count in children with genetic mitochondrial and muscular dystrophy. Epicatechin is flavonoid catechin that is commonly known to be in undutched cacao, only reliable source I know that does 3rd party testing and control of substance quality on this substance is Nootropics Depot. You could try it. it is not dangerous and side effects are non existent in the effective dosages taken. while I cannot state it will solve the specific function of your sons disorder as CMT 2A affects mitochondrial fusion it should still greatly improve general mitochondrial health and as the video stated, exercise is a great way to boost mitochondrial function as well, combination therapy should be more effective than sum of its parts.

    • @oskariKN25
      @oskariKN25 3 дня назад

      Sadly you cannot get it without known case of pharmacokinetic function like for diabetes, From the doctors point of view its a case of medical malpractice, if something went wrong they could get sued and lose their license. you could try Nootropics Depots Epicatechin. Epicatechin is a plant catechin flavonoid mitochondrial supporter found in cacao that in many studies showed great improvement in conditions of children with genetic mitochondrial and muscular atrophy. They 3rd party test their products.
