Dr. Joel Khan is a plant based cardiologist who promotes olive oil as a healthful substance due to the polyphenols. (He even sells it.) I don’t understand why you can’t get polyphenols from another safer source. Thank you for delving deep into this subject. Olive oil does have 14% saturated fat, is calorie dense pure refined fat with no fiber. I think it is dangerous to promote it as a healthful substance. People will pour it on, adding massive amounts of fat and calories to their diet. Look around. Few people in this country can afford this. Even though I am very active, WFPB and at a BMI under 19- I still consider olive oil dangerous because I ate the standard American diet for my first 53 years. I’m sure that my arteries have the gunk from all those years of uneducated eating. I’m 64 now and I don’t miss oil -and I really don’t miss paying a boatload of money for those bottles. One other issue with olive oil you can look up: most of what is in the shelves is not olive oil! Who knows what it is. Best to avoid it from my point of view.

Rip looking for any excuse to keep eating bananas with berries because he likes it is the same mindset that meat-eaters have regarding burgers or steak. Food affinities are be far stronger than our intellectual understanding of the science of food and our health.

Yeah hey I was thinking the same thing!! Wtf we've known about the banana thing with berries forever! This is almost ridiculous. I don't get a phenomenal amount haha cocky laugh of wild blueberries daily so when I do I'm axing the banana. His guest literally said it's more than just 20 - 50 percent absorption difference. That's a lot!!!! I'll eat my banana on peanut butter toast or something. If at all. Mushy and slimy kinda over powers the flavor of the berries

Ive known a few weightlifters that have had some serious injuries using creatine,no PEDs. The theory ive heaard is that your muscles become considerably stronger but tendons havent. Also the increased fluid retention and electrolyte balances may be responsible.

Question. He mentioned that if you cooked the bananas (or other items that brown etc) it would disable the enzyme(?) that interferes with the blueberries. I mash a banana and cook the oatmeal with the mashed banana. I’d there Any chance you can find out if that is sufficient to disable the effect of the banana so that the blueberries are absorbed as if the banana was not there? Thanks!

With oils - What about people who want to add calories and not trying to lose weight? It’s difficult to eat enough whole foods and not eat oils or tons of nuts. Also, would you address manganese in a future episode? Sometimes I get way above the level that is considered to be safe - Tons of it in nuts, seeds and whole grains.

Dr Micheal Greger has a section in his latest book, How NOT TO AGE on creatine. He states that it is good for an older person to use but only is beneficial on resistance training progressively and even gives a recommendation of a company and amount.

Great interview. Though I didn't like David being put on the spot to support Rip's interests. Sorry to say that. I have been loyal listener for years and usually don't make negative comments. In the summary for creatine , Rip should have also mentioned probably the best reason to supplement - if you have high homocysteine. Focusing just on sports performance was a bummer for me :(. Also, with the banana and berry discussion....people do not want to hear the science if it goes against something they do.

I listened to this knowing the answers based on research i have done and listening to other experts. I'm troubled that Rip "brow beat" The guest to make him say that it was ok to have bananas with blueberries. This podcast was not to confirm what Rip is eating but to provide guidance for others to maximize the nutrients they receive. I am disappointed in Rips interviewing methods and biases. This seemed like it was a confirmation for what Rip was eating and not the guest's scientific/professional opinion. Rip please allow the guests to provide an unbiased (which could be contrary to yours) opinion. Thank you

@@nelutu-d9g For the general public oatmeal is a very good food and the Delany sisters from NY who lived to age 104 and 109 ate it everyday as many centenarians did also, however they also consumed it with an egg and or yogurt, and fruit so those anti nutrients are so tiny when consumed with a balanced diet that it really has no effect for the general public.
