    Hi Andrea, I thank you for doing this sew along video because I am going to make it here in 2024. I've been to the channel many times. Stop by and say hello to me. I would love it.

    Andrea, the old ones are the good ones !! (The sewalongs, not the makers !) I finally got around to making a Harper. You're sewalong makes it sew easy and straightforward. I had cut it out ages ago and eventually made this over 23rd and today, 27th Dec. So you can imagine how I managed that along with visitors staying from US & NZ !! It's such a lovely pattern to work with. Thank you for taking the time, previously to record this sewalong. Happy New Year to you and your family. Looking forward to more sewalongs from you in 2023.

    Love the cardigan, Karina at Lifting Pins and Needles puts thread onto bobbins for her overlocker so she has the right colour thread for all loopers and needles.

    I’m slow to think about making the harper cardigan, but think I definitely need a few, as downsized from an 18/20 to wearing a 14 now in most things & many of my clothes have gone to the charity shop. May consider this to put in for the sewfrugal24 but (have some little girls dresses cut out for Project Dress a girl24) but will certainly make it. Great sew along which I will save & revisit when making it. Thank you Andrea.❤

    I'm slow to find the Harper Cardigan and your sewalongs. May I say thank you so much for all your help. The videos are brilliant. I really would lie a pocket in my jacket but I agree that they don't look that great on the front. I don't know a lot about pockets but I'm assuming I could add a side pocket if I look up how to do that somewhere. You've inspired me to make this soon for winter here in Australia which is on its way with Autumn here now. Thanks again. Maree

    Thanks so much Andrea for this sew along, you gave me the confidence to attempt the Estelle jacket (after many years away from sewing)
    and I was so thrilled with the end result . So I’m thinking I might have a go at this gorgeous cardigan, but I think I’ll wait until you’ve got some more
    of the cable knit fabric in that lovely colour.
    I haven’t done a great deal of sewing since my “comeback” 🙈😂🤣 still lacking a bit in confidence, but I find your videos so inspiring and encouraging, and I can’t wait to give this one a go. So once again I want to show my appreciation for the time and effort you but into these sew alongs and videos 🙂🤗🤗

    When I don’t have enough spools of the right colour thread, I wind up a couple of bobbins in my required colour. Then I get the right colours on my bobbins which can be used on the overlocker.

    I enjoyed the sew along, with all of your tips, and I love that fabric. I live in the US and haven't (yet) been able to find anything similar. Unfortunately, having fabric shipped from the UK could potentially cost more for shipping than the cost of the fabric. I have been following you and several other UK sewists. I appreciate the way you ladies take the time to really talk about the fabrics and show them off to their best advantage. It's so hard to shop for fabric online when all you can see is a small, square of fabric. I need to touch it and see how it feels.
    I am also jealous of all the fabulous fabric stores in the UK! Where I live, there are a couple of stores selling quilt fabrics exclusively and one regular fabric store. This store carries a lot of their own line of fabric, and it's not always the best quality. They are starting to carry more knits lately, so maybe there is hope I'll be able to find something to make the Harper Cardigan.

    • @Beyondthepinkdoor
      @Beyondthepinkdoor  4 года назад +2

      dynawmn thank you for watching , I’m so glad you found it helpful . I’m actually in Ireland , it’s getting really chilly now and I’m so glad of my cardigans . They are so good for layering up.
      I know what you mean about buying online . I have a box of fabric in my sewing room which are ones I thought would be perfect for planned projects and were completely wrong . Sometimes it’s difficult to see the size of the print or know how the fabric drapes from a square photo!!
      I’ve become better with more practice .
      The cost of shipping to the USA isn’t actually too bad from Ireland. Sometimes I find shipping to USA cheaper than to the uk , all depending on the weight of course , and these knits are quite heavy . But I’m shipping a few times a week to the USA and it’s been really fast and efficient so far with our Irish postal system . I have been told by a uk lady who sells fabric that the uk Royal mail is more expensive to the USA than our post so that’s quite interesting..hope that helps x

    Looks great Andrea. I will definitely sign up for the mailing list. Funnily enough, I made my first Sinclair pattern last week - the Iris Raglan Tee. This weekend I am going to make my 2nd version in that lovely pink viscose jersey that I got from you a few weeks ago. I love that they do petite versions - this may be the first garment I have made where I haven't had to make any adjustments. You should try the Iris if you haven't already done so: it's a lovely pattern and will work great worn with jeans or leggings under that cardi.

    Thank you for the great sew along. I’ve downloaded the pattern but I was a bit confused about the amount of fabric needed. The pattern mentions different amounts of fabric for different sleeve lengths so I wasn’t sure if the 1.5m suggested for the long cardigan included the amount needed for long sleeves. Probably me being a bit dense but would appreciate if you could clarify. I thought you said in the video you managed to make it from 1.5m! Thanks

  • @Yorkygirl59

    The other versions of the Harper I've seen have the pattern on the front band going at right angles to the main body, and the pattern piece seems to suggest that the grainline does go along the length. Have you turned the pattern piece around to get the cables in the same direction as the body, and does this work OK with the amount of stretch?

    Hi Andrea. So, having been inspired by your sew-a-long, I bought some navy Ponte Roma in readiness to make the Harper cardigan. I’m hoping to print out the pattern pieces today. I read the pdf instructions and noticed it suggests stabilising the shoulder seams by stitching a clear elastic or a cotton tape to the wrong side of the back shoulder seams. I don’t think you did this on yours? Do I need to? It’s not something I’m familiar with (I’m only a beginner really). I’d be really grateful for your advice.

    • @Beyondthepinkdoor
      @Beyondthepinkdoor  4 года назад +1

      Hi Rebecca .. you’ll love making it , it comes together so beautifully and as a beginner the ponte will be brilliant to work with . I don’t stabilise the shoulders and I’ve made 5 now without any issues . Enjoy 😊

    I have some quilted ponte Roma in my stash. I wonder if that would be suitable? Never sewn with it so not too sure, have you any experience of this fabric please Andrea? I’ve just seen to the end of your video and see that have used ponte for a previous version 👍🏻

      It should work Pauline , I haven’t used quilted ponte , that sounds really great .. as long as it has stretch it’ll be perfect

    Hi Andrea! I'm making it right now. My front band is shorter than the length around so I'm having to stretch/ease it in around the neck. Did you have to do that? Loved the video! Your fabric is perfect for this!

    • @Beyondthepinkdoor
      @Beyondthepinkdoor  4 года назад +1

      Yes, thats exactly what you do Maureen. I stretched it from the v front around the neck. You'll love it!

      Hi Margaret , I’m a 10/12 and I made the size 12 UK . There is a UK14/16 and a 16 on the size chart . I’d probably do the 16 to get a bit of extra wearing room. I can wear mine over a light jumper x

    You have inspired me to make one, I've just got the pattern, am I reading it right that it only takes 1 metre for the classic regular length? X

    • @Beyondthepinkdoor
      @Beyondthepinkdoor  4 года назад

      I use 1.5 mtrs to make mine . The yardage on the pattern is a little confusing . The metre is for the body of it and you add more for whatever length sleeves you’d like x

      Margaret Bryant hi Margaret , it’s a free pattern you’re getting from Sinclair patterns . You have to get it printed , I’m sure your grand daughter could organise it for you . My website is in euro because I’m in Ireland , I’m not sure where you are in the world ?
