I know only what I have learned from Peter about bonsai. I may never actually create a bonsai. Peter makes me feel safer and more relaxed during this pandemic here in the US.
Yes. I feel the same way. I love the idea of doing a bonsai but not ready yet. Maybe one day. Maybe after a lot more of his videos
I start liking bonsai when i was 17. Because college i didnt even bother to start. I got married on age 30 and started growing bonsai. Now im 33 i already have several ok one. But i wish i started when i was 17. Planting 2-4 plant is not hard to maintain.

What a great video of wiring. The whole process of using the correct size and the making of the jin. One of the best videos that I have seen on how to completely wire the total tree and visualize it. Beautiful results.
I liked the idea of a windswept look. What I was thinking was that to take the thinner, lower branch (make that the windward side) and bend it in a u-turn towards the thicker lower branch (the leeward side). We see in nature that windswept trees can have branches that start out 'normal' and then bend windward as they grow. Then do the same for the smaller branches on the 'windward' side.
I will keep an eye out for a spindly pine and see if I can find one to try this out on. I'll report back in about 3 - 4 year LOL.
"Many times people are reluctant to cut these large branches," this is me with all of my trees!

Nice job, I would have only kept one of the gin and he may decide that in the future, even if going with the wind swept I would have removed the larger branch as it was the same size as the trunk so keeping proportion as the branches go up the tree. I got a yamadori today, from an area were people go to target shoot, lots of great trees, I will see if it survives, all loose rock so we will see. Also picked up some mushroom cultures from under pines and sprinkled the Mycorizza over my JBP that are in sterile potting medium to see if that helps them and put some in a baggie with potting mix to try and grow some. You never stop learning.
It turned out a lovely tree.
I would love a video on characteristics of wire used in bonsai wrapping. Is it coated, is it copper,
how long is it left on to achieve result, everything about wire.

Pinus parviflora: Five-needle pine / Ulleungdo white pine / Japanese white pine, native to Korea and Japan.
While the translation from Latin literally means five-leaf pine, it's not incorrect to call it Japanese white pine :)
By the way, the Japanese themselves just call it 五葉松 _goyômatsu_ meaning five (五) leaf (葉) pine (松).
To be fair, "parviflora" means small-flowered in Latin, not sure where the 5-needle translation came out of! "Pentaphylla" would be the correct translation for 5-leaved(needled)
You're right! I just quoted the said "five-leaf-pine" without thinking about it.
Not quite sure if this is true but if conditions are right, the Chinese five needle pines do bud bud back from old bark unlike the Japanese white pine

Yes we had hot weather in June
on tropical trees it's fine. as long as you protect them from intense sun for a while

So its safe to cut the live branches this time of year . I have a pinus parviflora "NIGESHI" ..im scared to do anything with this tree .also because i purchased it late summer . and it lost alot of its old foliage this month wich is normal ofcource . But it quite scared me 😅😅😅 and it doesnt like water 😅😅. I found out its the diva of my garden ..so im trying to get al the info i can ..im intimidated by this tree for some reason.. thank you!!🌳🌳

I do not know when the video was shot but if it is recent, you should definitely both wear masks. I had Covid and it was pretty bad! I am 44 and i can now understand why it can be serious for people over 70. I do not want to be rude to say you are old or anything Mr. Chan but please be very carefull because we like so much your videos and your work!

I'm trying to get the national trust to remove a load of pines off heathland were they forgot to graze in Surrey. They will need several volunteers and were otherwise just going to burn the trees....
