  • The Double Surgeon's is one of the most important knots used in trout fishing. It is a quick and easy knot for beginner's to learn and one you will use constantly for tying two similar diameter's of line/leader/tippet together.

    Easier than a blood knot but is it stronger? Cheers to everyone at the shop!

      Stronger when adding a fly to the tag but many would argue that the blood knot is stronger when parallel tension is applied to the standing ends.

    When would a triple surgeon's knot be preferred over a double, or vice versa?

      Triple Surgeon's knots are often used when attaching flies to the remaining tag ends of the knot. The tags will stick out at closer to a 90 degree angle which is beneficial for tight-line nymphing. The tag ends of a double surgeon's remain more in-line with the standing ends of the leader/tippet.
