- In this video we will cover everything you need to know about Azithromycin, also known as Zithromax. We will discuss how and when to use it, we will cover its side effects, dosage and much, much more.
Generic name: Azithromycin.
Brand names: Zithromax.
Available as a tablets and suspension.
How to use it?
- Tablet: just swallow it whole with half a glass of water.
- Suspension: add the right amount to a cup of water, using a measuring spoon or cup. Drink the water.
Furthermore it is best to take azithromycin at a fixed time, this makes you less likely to forget a dose. You could do this before, during or after a meal.
When to use it?
Azithromycin is part of a group of antibiotics called Macrolide. They can be used to treat infectious with several types of bacteria. For example:
- Infections of the respiratory tract, like a pneumonia.
- Infections of someone's urogenital tract, like STI’s or an urinary tract infection
- Infections of the skin, like a wound infection
- And gastrointestinal infections, like a throat infection.
What is the correct dosage?
The precise dose will depend on your specific indication of use, the side effect you might experience and the severity of your symptoms. Therefore always use the precise amount and frequency your doctor prescribed you.
- However, when treating most infections in adults and children weighing more than 45 kg, your doctor might prescribe a dose of 500 mg 1×/day for 3-5 days.
- One of the exceptions is when treating Chlamydia. Then your doctor might prescribe an one time dose of 1000mg.
What are the side-effects?
- Very common (10%): nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence and diarrhoea.
- Common (1-10%): vomiting, skin rash, itching, joint pain, fatigue, dizziness, headache, taste disturbance, visual impairment and deafness.
- Uncommon (0.1-1%): palpitations, inflammation of your stomach, liver or vagina, hypersensitivity, skin rash, tinnitus, drowsiness, insomnia, chest pain, edema and nervousness.
- Rare (0.01-0.1%): irritability, vertigo, liver dysfunction and various serious side effects.
Safety:
First of all there are no limitations for this drug regarding the usage of alcohol or driving a car.
However, Azithromycin can have interactions with other drugs your are taking. Always discuss this with your prescribing doctor.
Lastly, Azithromycin can usually be used safely when pregnant or when breastfeeding, but again discuss this with your personal doctor.

I am taking it now, I just started yesterday and I had to lie down because I feel so bad.I am hot and clammy and feel nauseous. Always take probiotics after taking antibiotics because they kill all bacteria good and bad.

Mild side affects which is on/off, but doable. Just make sure you are eating healthy meals in between and you’re hydrated ❤
Recently, I had a double root canal and the dentist gave me Azithromycin to fend off any infection. A few days into it, I realized that it was very hard to hear with both ears.
Question ⁉️. I did read elsewhere that this drug can produce this side effect. How do I now reverse the hearing loss⁉️

Excellent video with short and sweet information. I was prescribed 6 tables (2 days each) and am experiencing side affects of mild stool, diarrhea, stomach pain. I am still afraid of these affects several days after taking these meds. I also watch what I'm eating (no coffee, milk, creamy foods, etc) as these can make it more difficult. I wonder how long these should last? Thanks for this excellent video!

Zith this is intresting because its an old manor of a way to make a chemical its the formula of the formula for the chemical forumula but its not popular zithrax
I take 1 500ml tablet 3 times a week as I have bronchiectasis and am prone to chest infections
and at one time was contracting Pneumonia in an average of three times a year and had to be treated as an inpatient each time
what would dose be for someone with heart issue..for example, some ppl have heart issue from bateria caused by dental bacteria..

I'm having pertussis, I've decided to take this drug. WHO recommends 5 days 500mg/day for adults but after having this drug for 3 days, it has increased cough symptoms. I'm not sure if this drug is treating or worsening pertussis 😢

Respiratory infection and they DIDNT they waited till i had Broncitis , not to mention when they gave me Zpack they also gave me 60 Tylenol pills and recommend me to take 2 every 3 hours , 3 times a day. Now , if ima be in that much pain just give me a Percocet LOL

You must take probiotics after antibiotics to restore your gut Microbiome! I’ve been sick 12 years from Keflex because I didn’t take probiotics after antibiotics eat lots and lots of yogurt like Chobani Greek style add whatever you need to including whip cream and blueberries or strawberry jelly in order to tolerate it so you get the good guys put in you
