One of Zawinul's best compositions imho, and unusually interesting synth solo (compared to other takes on the same tune).

Definitely a peak of jazz fusion. I saw this tour in Boston. It was amazing. I almost didn't go because I'd been up all night the night before playing and the next night was the Grateful Dead at the Music Hall. So glad I went. They were just transcendent. Interestingly, Rick is a bridge between both bands!

Amazing! I was just given this recording from someone who was at that concert.

Jaco's bass has lungs, its envelopes you with a warm growl.

One tune for the ages! Zawinul changed things after Mr Gone as far as overdubbing keyboards to infer a symphony. This tune was a little cluttered I thought but a masterpiece. After this he played multi keyboards but without overdubbing as much.

Is it me, or is the drum playing in a more faster tempo? This doesn't bother me, but it definitely makes the song sound more energetic

Many covers of it by groups the drums drags. There us no percussion in this version of W R . The drums contrast greatly except Jaco grooves all tbe way through. Its a double time groove so you cant play it too fast! I mean fast as you want lol. Steps ahead arrangement is the only group I hear do something with this great tune! Mainieri led and Rachel Z plays a mean keyboard solo.

Amazing to do this live with all the overdubbing Jo Zawinul did texturizing this tune. I think after this album he changed his synth studio playing. He's not gonna hire anther Keyboard player like say Herbie does. LOL
