I've read the "Japan's Ninth Periodic Report" published by CEDAW (you can easily find it on their site). It's nowhere as terrible as the video makes it seem to be. The report mostly talks about the social conditions of women in Japan and barely touches upon the whole entertainment bit. Additionaly, when it does, it expresses concerns not on the fact that those entertainment products in general are discriminatory towards women, but rather that in some of those products gender stereotypes are pushed, leading to an affirmation of those stereotypes which are, sadly, still vastly spread in Japan. The only mention of censorship I found in the document refers specifically to the most extreme of those cases, in which sexual violence against women is promoted. While I still personally don't agree with any kind of censorship, including this, what the actual document says is very different from "censoring, or even banning, anime and manga". Furthermore, I found no evidence of this report being in any way tied to the credit card companies terminating services to Manga Library Z, expecially considering that credit card companies doing shit like that has unfortunately been a thing for a long time. Lastly, I find it funny that the video mentions Elon hoping he could do something agaisnt this kind of censorship when he associated himself with a political party of conservatives, some of which push for Project 2025, which has as one of its goals the outright banning of pornography in the US (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_2025). Instead, what he seems to be doing as of now is criticizing other countries' democracies while having no idea on how they work. Please, don't believe everything you find on the internet and always verify the source

I agree censorship is futile. It only works to hide the ideas and slow their spread, and never works in stopping those ideas from existing. And in fact it can have a cobra effect as those things can now explode in popularity due to them being hidden. This is a "Western" thing because even Japan censors works, clearly evident when anime adaptations censor scenes from the manga. Censorship is ultimately utilised by companies like Visa and Mastercard censoring anime, or porn in the US a couple years ago. The reason even anime get censored is due to what time it's airing. If it's during a time where children will be watching TV, advertising companies are the ones that force animes to get censored. This happens in the west as well. When censorship happens we have to remember not to just blame other people but the actual companies themselves. The fact that only two companies alone can do this is a real issue. Duopolies like that should not exist. And the fact people are hoping individuals like Elon Musk can do something that the entire anime community can't is disappointing. Just because he likes anime doesn't give him anime reason to do something, and if he didn't it would be so much worse. No one person should have that much power either. As for political figures, ie. And within the socially liberal voters, there's a small minority who use platforms like Twitter to "cancel" stuff they don't like. Whether the Democratic party does something depends on whether they listen to the minority of their voters who are actually left-wing and aren't Twitter warriors. Otherwise they'll listen to their right-wing and demented twitter-using voters and also leave this as is. When distributing Japanese content overseas, adult and violent expressions are corrected and delivered for enjoyment.
This is understandable because each country and region has its own cultural ethics.

I agree censorship is futile. It only works to hide the ideas and slow their spread, and never works in stopping those ideas from existing. And in fact it can have a cobra effect as those things can now explode in popularity due to them being hidden. Censorship is horrible but it's important to remember every country and government engages in it. This is a "Western" thing because even Japan censors works, clearly evident when anime adaptations censor scenes from the manga.
Censorship is ultimately utilised by companies like Visa and Mastercard censoring anime, or porn in the US a couple years ago. The reason even anime get censored is due to what time it's airing. If it's during a time where children will be watching TV, advertising companies are the ones that force animes to get censored. This happens in the west as well. When censorship happens we have to remember not to just blame other people but the actual companies themselves.
The fact that only two companies alone can do this is a real issue. Duopolies like that should not exist. And the fact people are hoping individuals like Elon Musk can do something that the entire anime community can't is disappointing. Just because he likes anime doesn't give him anime reason to do something, and if he didn't it would be so much worse. No one person should have that much power either.
As for political figures, ie. Trump, it's funny many people think he will do something about this and that he "hates" censorship. Again, censorship is something all governments also use to gain votes/voteshare. Trump may try and keep anime uncensored if he thinks it'll gain him votes but the moment this issue reaches his demographic, many of whom are patriotic Americans, anti-foreign, very religious or some mix of those qualities or more, you can be assured that they don't want "perverted" "Japanese" content to be allowed within America. And while most of the Democratic Party is often associated with "left-wing" with left-wing meaning more socially liberal and thus more accepting of foreign, and sexual works, many of the Democratic voters are in fact also right-wing. And within the socially liberal voters, there's a small minority who use platforms like Twitter to "cancel" stuff they don't like. Whether the Democratic party does something depends on whether they listen to the minority of their voters who are actually left-wing and aren't Twitter warriors. Otherwise they'll listen to their right-wing and demented twitter-using voters and also leave this as is.
If this is an issue you truly care, making it known to the actual companies doing this and to the government in charge that you dislike this is far more important than "haha west bad trump and elon are awesome!!11!!1!". And for the 2 people who are like "we should cancel western media instead i fucking hate western media 🤬" shut up. You're doing the same thing you're criticising the "West" for doing. All censorship is bad.
