    I hope that OP’s husband is serious about mending his relationship with their two older sons. Whenever a child goes NC with their parents, it’s usually because the parents haven’t been good parents. There are way too many neglectful and abusive parents out there who don’t truly care about their children and don’t care to acknowledge their faults. It takes a big person to admit that they’ve done wrong.

    • @lillia2479
      @lillia2479 6 месяцев назад +5

      Yes. Just like my parents who uses the "Are you the parent or am I the parent" argument whenever they're in the wrong. They see where they're wrong, but their ego of being the parent won't let them admit their mistake.

    as someone whose family aint so close to even though i was spoiled like sean (but not the favorite like how the father treated him), im glad the father could realize his mistakes and change right there and then. and how the siblings actually dont blame sean for it but held a slight jealousy at the moment, im glad they could get closer. it feels shit when you watch your family slowly tear apart right in front of your eyes.

      Gonna be honest, this story actually makes me angry that it got resolved. Might be something from my past I need to look into? But, it just annoys me that he was actively being told what he was doing was wrong for years, refusing to change or acknowledge, and then suddenly wants forgiveness after his actions (obviously) finally blow up in his face. Like, the problem wasn't just his blatant favoritisms, but that he consistently ignored/undermined his wife's thoughts and other kids feelings. Guess it just felt like he got off way too easy, I guess? The whole situation might just be a big red flag/pet peeve for me though, I don't know.

    Interestingly enough, my name is Sean, I am the baby in my family, and I’m pretty sure I was my dad’s favorite. My mom opened up to me like a year ago that my dad was a pretty distant father to my older siblings till I came along, at which point he suddenly became super involved and amazing. I never understood this when I was younger because my relationship with my father has always been great but now it makes sense, especially seeing as my older siblings, especially my sister, still struggle from the issues they had with my father’s lack of affection towards them growing up. He has taken full responsibility for his failures and tries his best to express that he loves them but it’s just very sad because no matter how often he reassures them, they never feel as though he truly approves of them and seem to still desperately want that approval subconsciously. They never quite feel like they’re enough. I never had that issue with my father and always felt loved by him so it’s kinda made me realize that my family wasn’t so perfect and I got affection from him that my older siblings didn’t get. It’s been tough to come to terms with that and sometimes it makes me feel a bit guilty for never noticing it sooner, but I guess it is what it is and no family is truly 100% perfect. Not only that, but it’s not my place to struggle since it’s about his failures for them and their issues and needs, not mine. They never resented me for it, or if they did, they repressed it well, and I am truly grateful for that. My relationship with my siblings has always been pretty good and they were very affectionate with me too since I was the baby.
    My experience is very different from this situation but it was just interesting to me and I’m glad the family is working towards reconciliation.

    Unpopular opinion, but why couldn't the youngest son wait till after the event to get frozen yogurt? It was mentioned that Sean begged, and the dad caved and took him. I'm not saying it's Sean's fault by any means, but I can understand why Mason and Kyle can't help but be slightly mad at him. It's one thing if Sean didn't know there was an important event, but if he did know, then I can understand Mason and Kyle's slight anger towards Sean. He seriously couldn't wait till after an event to get some frozen yogurt.
